Chapter 59 - Between Worlds

The connection was growing stronger.

Not fast.

Not violently.

But steadily.

Like something learning how to exist again.

Daniel returned to the vineyard every night now.

Not out of desperation anymore—

But purpose.

He stood at the entrance, calm, waiting.

"I'm here," he said softly.

The response came quicker this time.

A soft glow.

A pulse.

He smiled faintly.

"You're getting better at this."

The light flickered again—

almost like a reply.

Daniel hesitated for a moment.

Then spoke more carefully.

"If you can understand me… try something different."

The glow stilled.

Then shifted.

Instead of pulsing—

It stretched.

Thin strands of light slipped across the stone surface, faint and delicate, like threads weaving through the cracks.

Daniel stepped back slightly, stunned.

The light wasn't just reacting anymore.

It was shaping.

"Okay…" he whispered. "Okay, I see you…"

The strands moved slowly.

Uncertainly.

Then—

They began to form something.

Not clear.

Not complete.

But familiar.

Daniel's breath caught.

A shape.

A silhouette.

Human.

"Elena…" he breathed.

The form flickered, unstable, like it could disappear at any second.

But it stayed.

For a moment—

Just a moment—

He could almost see her.

The outline of her face.

The way she stood.

Then—

It faltered.

The light shattered back into soft pulses, retreating into the stone.

Daniel stepped forward quickly.

"No, wait—don't stop!"

But the glow dimmed again.

Silence returned.

He stood there, heart racing.

Not disappointed.

Amazed.

"You're trying," he whispered.

And that was enough.

Back in the bookstore—

Maria sat alone, flipping through one of Elena's notebooks.

Pages filled with thoughts, sketches, fragments of ideas.

She stopped suddenly.

A blank page.

Except—

It wasn't blank anymore.

Faint lines began to appear.

Slowly.

Like invisible ink being revealed.

Maria's breath hitched.

The words formed carefully.

Unsteady.

But readable.

"I'm still here."

Tears filled her eyes instantly.

"Elena…" she whispered.

The words shimmered once.

Then faded.

But not completely.

Because now—

Maria knew.

This wasn't imagination.

This wasn't grief.

This was real.

Deep below—

The light pulsed steadily.

Stronger.

More controlled.

More aware.

Elena wasn't gone.

She was learning.

How to reach them.

How to exist—

Between worlds.
