Chapter 18 - Farewell

Some time before Silk's death. It was a normal day for the best team in the Multiverse, saving it from deadly vampires threatening to wipe out every Spider-Person alive. However, something was bothering Jessica, the Spider-Girl. Peter was being overly protective of her, without explaining or telling her anything. Jess didn't understand what was going on with him.

"Peter, stop it," Drew said when he brought her a glass of water she hadn't asked for. "I need to go to my sister's."

"Of course. Why don't we go together? It'll be more fun, right?

"What's wrong with you? You're acting really strange. You won't leave my side, you keep bringing me things, and you won't tell me what's wrong.

"Jess, I... I just... well... I don't know. I'm just worried about you.

"I'm not a little girl anymore, Peter, and you need to grow up.

Jess grabbed her backpack with her things she had packed long ago and left in a taxi she had called. The taxi driver took her to Brooklyn, where Spider-Girl's sister lived. They were very close, and the death of their parents had brought them even closer together, but because of Jess's spider powers, she had to stay away from her sister so as not to endanger her and so that no one would hurt her.

Three hours later. The trip was delayed by evening traffic. Jess paid the taxi driver, got out of the car and walked onto the street, where her sister was waiting for her near a small two-storey house.

"Jessie, hi!

"Jane. It's good to see you.

"Me too. Shall we go for a walk?

"Sure, sis.

They walked leisurely down the street, paying no attention to the car horns, the people passing by, or the dog that barked at them. Jessica needed a break more than ever, as well as a conversation with a loved one.

"Well, tell me, little sister. How are things? Both human and heroic." asked Jane.

"Well, neither is going very well. Remember I told you about Peter? He's been acting really strange. He follows me everywhere I go. It's like he knows something I don't and doesn't want to talk about it.

"Well, maybe he's cheating on you?

"Very funny, Jane. But he's not like that. And with whom, do you think?

"Well, there are a lot of you there, as I understand it. What was the name of the girl your Peter rescued from the bunker?

"Just a second," Jess said.

Her phone was buzzing in her pocket. Someone was calling Jessica, and she answered.

"Drew, where are you?

"What's wrong, Miguel?

"Silk at the Heirs... Oh my God, what's wrong with him? Damn..." O'Hara was distracted by the call. "Jess, are you still there?

"Yes, what's going on there?

"Octavius has been badly beaten. He said Silk is dead.

"Oh my God...

Jess hung up the phone and put it in her pocket.

"Are you okay?" Jane asked.

"We lost Silk.

"Oh my God. I'm so sorry, Jess.

"Me too... Tell me how you're doing instead," Jess abruptly changed the subject to avoid dwelling on it.

"Well... I finally finished university and got a job at a firm... I had my first court case recently. There was this really handsome and talented lawyer on the defence team... I think his name was Honey Murdoch.

"Ha ha.

 What?

"No, no, he's a really good lawyer. I'd say too good.

"Come on, tell me everything, sis, I won't let you get away!

"No way, Jane!

Jess picked up speed and ran ahead, Jane following close behind. The sisters spontaneously decided to play tag, and it seemed that the older sister had every chance of winning...
