Prologue – Two Hearts for the Broken Girl

The fire took everything. My parents, my home, and the life I had known.

Now, I live in a house full of whispers, scorn, and eyes that watch me with hatred. My aunt and her daughters smile when guests are around, but behind closed doors, I'm nothing. A mistake. A burden.

And school isn't any better. Every hallway echoes with laughter at my expense. Every glance reminds me that I don't belong.

But then, in the middle of the chaos, two boys appeared—two hearts that no one else could see. One was quiet, mysterious, and dangerous in his beauty. The other was open, protective, and kind, though no less strong.

Both wanted me. Both would fight for me.

And in a world that despises me, I had no idea which heart I could trust... or survive.

Two Hearts for the Broken Girl – Chapter 1 (Jasmine's POV)

High school was supposed to be simple: classes, friends, maybe a crush or two. But for me, Jasmine, it was a battlefield.

Ever since the fire that took my parents, I've been forced to live with my aunt and her daughters. They treat me like a shadow, a mistake, a stain that shouldn't exist. And now, I go to school with them. The halls echo with their whispers, their laughter, their cruel games. Every day, Kimberly and her friends make sure I remember I'm an outcast.

And today was no different.

As I walked past the cafeteria, Kimberly's voice sliced through the chatter.

"Look who's trying to walk like she belongs here," she sneered, her perfectly manicured hand pointing at me. "Do you even know what dignity is, Jasmine?"

Her friends giggled behind her, circling me like vultures. My stomach twisted, and I kept my head down, pretending I hadn't heard. Pretending didn't work. Not when everyone's eyes were on me.

Then, out of nowhere, a tall figure stepped in front of me. Broad shoulders, dark hair, and eyes sharp enough to cut through Kimberly's smirk.

"Step aside," he said, voice calm but commanding.

It was Alex. Handsome, flawless, the kind of face that made everyone in school stop and stare. But there was something in the way he stood—fierce, protective, dangerous—that made Kimberly falter.

"What? This isn't your problem," Kimberly snapped.

Alex's jaw tightened. "It is if you touch her again."

A small, almost imperceptible smile tugged at my lips, but I didn't dare look fully at him. Alex had a way of making me feel seen, even when the world treated me like I didn't exist.

Before I could thank him, another figure approached from behind. Raymond.

"Alex, chill. Let her breathe," Raymond said, his tone light, but his eyes lingered on me with something I couldn't name. Something... warm. Protective.

Alex's eyes snapped to Raymond, sparks flying in the air between them. "Step back," he growled. "She's fine."

"Fine?" Raymond's voice rose slightly, challenging. "She doesn't look fine."

Kimberly's laughter was cut short as the two boys faced off, silent tension crackling like electricity. I felt my heart hammering—not just because of the fight—but because of the strange pull I felt toward both of them, though I couldn't admit it, even to myself.

The bell rang, breaking the stand-off. Kimberly stormed off, muttering threats, her friends trailing behind her. Raymond stayed close, walking beside me, glancing at me with that gentle look that made my chest ache. Alex kept a few steps ahead, his presence like a shield, daring anyone else to cross the line.

I didn't know it then, but my life had just become even more dangerous.

Because in a school full of whispers, jealousy, and silent wars, two hearts had already chosen me. And I didn't know which one I could—or should—trust.

The hallway was silent for a moment, just the echo of our footsteps. But I could feel it: the fights, the secrets, the love that no one could see... it was only beginning.

And someone, somewhere, was already planning the next move.
