They had to walk at quite distance before they start encountering animals around them. But these common animals were not their target at this time.
They had to hunt those with beast core. Those beast with beast core are inherently quite fierce in temper.
At current cultivation of them they can only hunt low grade beast. A high-level 9th grade beast strength can equal to 1st stage of qi refinement realm.
Likewise, shi mingxi can only hunt 9th grade beast and shi Yixue can hunt 8th grade beast at there current strength.

Shi mingxi, who had low strength among them decide to go first and the first beast they encounter was fire fox.
A beast with great agility, speed and fire element, which naturally overpowers the wood element in nature.
So, shi mingxi very first fight is not going to be very easy. Shi Yixue, look thrilled with this disadvantage situation from the start.
While, Shi mingxi is cursing her luck. Considering both have same strength but the advantage of elements, couple with beast natural strength, mobility and thick hides it's hell mode from start.
Shi mingxi had only exchange two moves with the fox but the disadvantage are quite clear for her.
Shi Yixue "what about healing skill" she suddenly appear and shot a fire ball at the fox since it was busy dodging the wood vines it didn't saw her fire ball coming.

So, although shi Yixue attack cause it quite serious damage as her strength is way higher then the fox.
