Chapter 58 - Chapter 58: Caught Up

Thud! Thud! Thud!

Heavy footsteps echoed across the empty runway as several Special Infected fled for their lives. Their massive frames cast distorted shadows under the moonlight, each leap leaving deep claw marks in the concrete ground.

However, behind them, two black-and-red figures were rapidly closing in.

They were two Super Soldiers mid-sprint.

Their speed was staggering, the air forming visible shockwaves around them. If a Special Infected was an out-of-control truck, then a Super Soldier was a fighter jet flying low to the ground. In just a few seconds, the distance between the two parties was instantly closed to zero.

"Roar—!!"

The Special Infected at the very back sensed a fatal threat behind it. It spun around abruptly, attempting to counterattack with arms powerful enough to crush rock.

But it was futile.

Super Soldier No. 1 didn't slow down in the slightest, nor did he even bother to dodge. At the moment of impact, his right hand clamped down like a steel vise onto the Special Infected's arm, which was as thick as a tree trunk.

With a low, cold grunt, the Special Infected—weighing over two tons—was actually seized by the Super Soldier with one hand like a ragdoll.

The Special Infected's body was dragged across the ground by the Super Soldier; the hard concrete ground shredded its flank until the flesh was turned inside out, leaving a glaring trail of blood.

The Super Soldier exerted force from his waist and gave a sudden, violent swing.

"Whoosh—!!!"

The Special Infected was instantly transformed into a biological cannonball. Carrying terrifying kinetic energy, it smashed straight toward another fleeing Special Infected ahead.

"Boom!!!"

The two massive bodies collided violently in mid-air. The sound of shattering bones rang out as densely as popping beans; the spines of both Special Infected snapped into several pieces in an instant, and their internal organs were squeezed into a pulp by the massive impact. They became entangled and tumbled through the glass curtain wall of the nearby terminal building, falling silent forever.

This was the power of a Super Soldier. Even without using any thermal weapons, relying solely on a body perfectly strengthened by the virus...

Just as Super Soldier No. 1 was preparing to continue the pursuit and finish off the last remaining Special Infected, a hand blocked his path.

"Wait."

Super Soldier No. 2's voice was low and calm. "Don't kill it. This beast is running with such purpose; it's definitely heading back to its nest. Let it lead us to see their 'brain'."

Super Soldier No. 1 paused for a moment, then unclenched his fist and nodded. "Fine. We'll keep our distance; don't lose it."

The two quickly adjusted their tactics, deliberately slowing down to stay within the surviving Special Infected's blind spots, trailing behind it like two ghosts.

The Special Infected seemed unaware that death was right behind it. In its panic, it smashed through the heavy blast-proof doors of Terminal T3, rampaging all the way. Any ordinary zombies along the path that tried to stop it—or were simply in the way—were mercilessly sent flying, turned into piles of mush.

It crossed the empty check-in hall, rushed down the stalled escalators, and finally reached the Luggage Sorting Center deep underground.

This place had been transformed into a nest filled with fleshy tentacles and eerie slime.

In the center of the massive conveyor belt stood a giant sarcoma, four meters tall. It resembled a beating heart, its surface covered in thick blood vessels. Countless tentacles extended from its base, connecting to the surrounding walls and floor as if drawing nutrients from the entire airport.

The Special Infected ran up to the sarcoma as if its mission were complete...

At that moment, a tall figure slowly stepped out from the shadows of the sarcoma.

It was another bipedal ape.

He wore a clearly ill-fitting, burst-open human black bodysuit, and around his neck hung a necklace made of human finger bones. His eyes flickered with the light of intelligence—a gaze possessed only by higher primates—filled with cunning and rage...

Omeros.

The younger brother of Charlie, who had already been blown to pieces.

A few days ago, he was still in a distant island nation. Relying on his superior physical attributes and an IQ no lower than a human's, Omeros had established his own stronghold there. He had even learned to use ninja tools to hunt local gang members and remnants of the Self-Defense Forces.

But he was too high-profile.

His uniqueness attracted the attention of a mysterious company.

Mysterious units dressed in full black combat gear launched an endless manhunt for him. The weapons they used were advanced and lethal, and their tactical coordination was seamless. Omeros nearly lost his life several times and was ultimately forced to abandon his territory and smuggle himself back to this continent.

He had originally intended to seek refuge with his brother, Charlie...

But he arrived too late.

When he reached the Corpse King's mountain laboratory, all he saw were ruins across the ground and that fluttering black flag. Those human soldiers in black uniforms...

Instinct told him that he couldn't afford to provoke these soldiers who also wore black clothes.

So he fled here, to F City International Airport.

Here was one of the early experimental subjects left behind by the Corpse King: a Biological Base Station with mental control capabilities. Using the knowledge he had learned from his brother, Omeros used a special chemical agent to forcibly control this sarcoma, thereby taking command of the entire airport's zombie horde.

He thought this would be a safe haven...
