"A human?"
The little fur ball wiggled out of my grip. I raised an eyebrow at it.
I never seen a type of creature like this before. Maybe it was one of those D-tier creatures that are the most common to run into.
But, it looks too extraordinary for that.
"What are you?"
I said, reaching to touch its wounded wing. The little fur ball scoffed before smacking my hand. I yelped, pulling back with a wince.
"What am I? Seriously? You haven't heard of the "One who speaks, one shall give?"
I blinked.
"No. I haven't."
The little fur ball gasped; was I supposed to know? I stared down at Phoenix, wondering if she was reacting the same way I was. She was just licking her paw.
My attention shifted to the fur ball, who was practically seething in frustration.
"Are you serious?! I'm one of the most rare phenomenon to ever exist!"
'Why are you so angry?'
The only rare phenomenon I know was me. I never heard of any other phenomenon (besides gods and goddesses, though they aren't exactly the same) that was selected to protect humanity and save the world from salvation. This little fur ball didn't look like it wanted to protect humanity…far from it actually.
The little fur ball pointed its sharp claw towards me.
"You low-life-good-for-nothing humans don't know anything about the true meaning of the superior race!"
The little fur ball said.
I forgot how extremely racist these new life creatures were. Seriously, what's with the grudge against humans?
"Not to be that type of person or anything, but you look…far from what I except a rare phenomenon to look like."
"You look more of a B-Tier type."
Those are the only tiers that would have similar characteristics as the little fur ball. The little fur ball now stood up on its little feet, glaring at me with its arms crossed.
"I'm not a tier, I don't even know what the hell that is. I'm a phenomenon."
I wasn't buying it. This thing's attitude was too bratty and annoying. I just nodded.
"Whattt? You don't believe me?"
The little fur ball asked. I couldn't help but laughed at its sudden frustration. I never met anyone who was this tiny get so mad over not being known. It reminds of the ol' mighty Zeus: he reacts the same way this little fur ball does when someone dares to question his authority or the lack of recognition he receives according to Greek mythology.
"What are you laughing at?!"
The little fur ball yelled. I can see blush forming on its cheeks!
I sighed heavily, wiping a few tears away from my eyes. I can tell that Phoenix was tired of hearing this little fur ball lashing out. I catch her with the corner of my eye. She was curling up into a ball, the soft red hue slowly fading away.
"Ahhh…man. I can't recall the last time I laughed this hard. You're a comedian or something?"
The little fur ball grunted.
"Why you!—"
When it tried to launch itself at me, it only winced. My smile started to fade away when I gazed at the wounded wing. The wounded wing was probably chopped or bitten off—I'm assuming by the marks of it—it was most likely bitten off, causing a tear.
"…here."
I ripped off a piece of my sleeve. I scooted closer to the little fur ball, reaching for the opened wound, but the little fur ball refused to let me touch its wing. I rolled my eyes with slight annoyance.
"Listen, I'm sorry for laughing. However, I don't laugh at pain like some sort of maniac. Would you rather be stuck here in the dark then to be patched up?"
"Yes. I would."
I scoffed at its answer, but honestly: that was pretty funny.
"Just get over here."
The little fur ball obliged with an exaggerated sigh. My fingers wrapped around the spilt tips of the damaged wing. The little fur ball moaned in agony, its little sharp claws digging into my pants to seek some comfort. My empathy for it wasn't invisible: I did my best to try and be careful wrapping the cloth to hold the teared wing together.
I imagined the little fur ball as Phoenix: taking care of it just like how I would with her.
"There."
The little fur ball stared at its wing. The wing twitched, like the little fur ball was testing it.
"That wasn't so bad, now was it?"
Before I knew it, the little fur ball charged at me, its claws sharpened as it hissed loudly. Phoenix sat up with a alarmed attitude. Her little pointy teeth were visible as her stance remained crouched. Her ears flared downwards, hissing multiple times with her tiny tail poofing.
"What are you doing?"
I asked, wondering why the little fur ball was tickling my face.
"Die…you…insufferable…wrench!"
The "attacks" didn't last much. The little fur ball quickly died out, huffing as it back away. I turned around to grab Phoenix, who was still pretty alert.
"What..are you? Why aren't you affected by my attacks?"
The little fur ball asked. Its ego was now dying down.
"I don't think I'll be affected by little toothpicks creasing my face."
Phoenix had sharper claws than the little fur ball. I'll be more affected if Phoenix tried clawing me with those sharp tips.
The little fur ball gulped. It stared at its hands, then at its wings, then at me. I was confused by the sudden change of its attitude. It was acting all high and mighty at first, what happened?
"My power…
…I forgot it's gone."
I stood quiet. I was surprised by that fact too: not with it losing it powers, but it having powers. I haven't unlocked mine yet.
Yet, I didn't say anything about it. All I saw was that disappointment in its face. I gazed at it real hard. I tried to be a bully against it for the consequences of having such a high ego and being aggressive, but seeing that bunny-like face, and the way it shut down—
I just couldn't.
I sighed.
I placed Phoenix beside me. She had finally calmed down but remained vigilant against the little fur ball. The little fur ball noticed that I was leaning towards it, holding my hand out with my expression hopefully appearing serious.
"I don't usually do this with phenomenons I don't know of, but I'll do this just this once."
The little fur ball was a bit puzzled from the fact I identified as a phenomenon aswell.
"You and me team up. I'll help you get your power back, you help me save the world.
I request one thing, and one thing only.
If you decide to become my traveling partner, you will have to be by my side at all times."
I smirked.
"One who speaks, one shall give, right?"
The little fur ball stared down at my hand. It can only scoffed and smacked it away. I smiled, knowing that gesture was most definitely a yes. Judging by its lack of frustration this time, I can only assume that the little fur ball gave in.
"Ugh. I'll do that. One who speaks will be given. I'm only doing it because I wanna gain my power."
I nodded, getting up holding Phoenix in my palm.
"Whatever you say."
I stared down at the little fur ball. The fur ball was short. Standing at my full height, it was around half of my ankle.
"What is your name, "giver?"
The little fur ball smirked.
"No."
"Kairos."
Trash name.
