Chapter 33 - Chapter 33: Ever-Burning Flame

When Faen first received his Falna, he had already awakened one Magic—an achievement rare beyond compare.

And now, only a few days later—before even reaching Level 2, he had awakened a second one.

Tifa and Robin were just as curious.

Forgetting their embarrassment, they leaned in close to examine the sacred script flowing across Faen's back.

Unfortunately, neither of them could read the divine language.

Furina hurriedly took out a blank sheet of parchment and carefully pressed it against Faen's back, transcribing the sacred text into the common tongue.

The three of them gathered around the parchment.

What immediately caught their eyes were Faen's astonishing Status values.

[Name: Faen]

[Level: Lv.1]

Abilities:

[Strength: H136 –> F371 (+235)]

[Endurance: H133 –> F345 (+212)]

[Dexterity: H143 –> F381 (+238)]

[Agility: H144 –> E406 (+262)]

[Magic: H150 –> D506 (+356)]

Below the Basic Abilities, in the section reserved for miracles—

Under Magic, in addition to his original spell [Ripples of the Past], a new name had appeared.

Magic:

[The Ever-Burning Flame]

Type: Fire-attribute Enhancement Magic - Ultra-short chant

Effect: Releases magic power as flames that envelop the body, increasing all Basic Abilities. The flames can be freely manipulated in combat. They may also be highly compressed and applied to a weapon, granting it extreme high-temperature cutting capability.

In theory, a weapon in this state possesses the potential to cut through anything. However, ordinary weapons cannot withstand such extreme heat and will shatter from overload after battle.

Chant (First Stage): "By this turning flame, I reign."

Chant (Second Stage): "By this blade's light, I strike."

...

The room fell silent for a moment.

On the parchment, the line—

Magic: D506

—stood out prominently.

Breaking into the D rank meant that, as long as he accumulated enough "excelia" (experience), he could choose to level up at any time.

For many adventurers struggling on the brink of death, this was a dream.

But for anyone with ambition, leveling up the moment a single Basic Ability barely touched D rank would be reckless—almost self-sabotage.

It would mean wasting potential.

Faen had no intention of doing that.

His goal was to push his potential to its absolute limit—to the point where growth slowed to a crawl, before stepping into Level 2.

As for the newly awakened Enhancement Magic, [The Ever-Burning Flame], it had come entirely as a surprise.

He had never imagined that beyond the obsession rooted deep in his soul toward Alfia, there lay such extreme potential.

Enhancement Magic was undeniably powerful.

Just look at the Sword Princess Ais Wallenstein of the Loki Familia.

With only a single wind-attribute Enhancement Magic, she had risen to the pinnacle of adventurers.

Perhaps his fire-attribute Enhancement Magic would become a formidable trump card.

But just as Faen was lost in thought, an extremely indignant voice shattered the silence.

"What is this supposed to mean?!"

Furina hopped down from his back, hands on her hips, cheeks puffed out. Her mismatched eyes were filled with theatrical grievance.

"I, Focalors, Goddess of Water and Justice—and yet my Familia's captain awakens a fire-attribute Magic as his second spell? Where am I supposed to put my dignity? Water and fire—this is practically betrayal!"

The more she spoke, the more dramatic she became, pressing the back of her hand to her forehead as if on the verge of fainting.

Faen sighed in helpless amusement.

Robin and Tifa could barely suppress their laughter.

They knew she wasn't truly angry, she was simply seizing the opportunity.

"Alright, alright," Faen said gently as he sat up and pulled his shirt back on.

"It's just Magic. It doesn't represent anything. My heart will always belong to you, Oh great Goddess of Justice."

"Empty flattery."

Furina huffed—but her expression softened.

Her eyes gleamed mischievously.

"Unless… you agree to a few conditions. To compensate for the tremendous emotional damage you've inflicted upon me."

In the end, after signing a series of deeply unfair "treaties"—

Double dessert rations for the next week

Accompany her shopping tomorrow—no mentioning the Dungeon allowed

Purchase any beautiful clothes she likes without hesitation

—Furina finally magnanimously declared she would temporarily overlook the offensive fire Magic.

---

The Next Morning...

Thanks to those unequal treaties, Faen found himself with a rare day off, accompanying his cheerful goddess on an outing.

After days of high-intensity Dungeon exploration, he truly needed the rest.

Come to think of it, he hadn't properly explored Orario at all.

In terms of familiarity with the city, Furina actually knew the area better than he did.

The sun shone brightly. The streets bustled with life.

Adventurers moved in groups toward Babel Tower. Merchants shouted their wares. The air carried the scents of food and the ringing clash of metal.

Furina held Faen's hand, unusually lively.

One moment she was pointing excitedly at a dress in a boutique window, the next she was drawn toward a dessert stall by the sweet aroma.

As they passed through a quieter street in the Seventh District, two figures approached them.

One was a green-haired elf carrying a large bundle of fresh produce.

Beside her walked a beautiful girl with short gray hair and gray eyes.

The moment Furina spotted the green-haired elf, her eyes lit up. She practically dragged Faen over.

"What a coincidence, Ryuu! Out shopping for supplies?"

Despite her familiarity, it wasn't entirely one-sided.

She was actually quite close with the calm elven waitress.

"Lady Focalors."

The elf—Ryuu Lion, paused and gave a graceful bow.

Furina also waved brightly at the gray-haired girl beside her.

"Good morning, Syr!"

Syr smiled and returned the greeting.

Ryuu nodded. "Yes. We're purchasing fresh ingredients for the tavern."

Then Furina proudly pulled Faen forward.

"This is the captain of my Familia—Faen. He's very strong, you know."

And just like that, beneath the warm morning sun of Orario, their paths crossed.
