Chapter 1 - Happy Birthday

The rocky magenta demon leaped upon Luc's right hand with a ferocious growl and tried to bite through it with its flinty teeth.

Luc watched the little demon try to attack him with a mixture of concern and pity as he sat alone at the bar, his left hand clutching an imported Gale Ale. While Luc sat there, staring awkwardly at the aggressive little demon, it began to pull on his right finger aggressively, uttering a series of little roars and growls that would be much more terrifying if it wasn't 3 inch tall and half covered in a white syrup looking concoction.

After a few more minutes of this debacle, Luc looked at the barkeep, a distinguished looking muo, and politely raised his hand, leading the little magenta demon to shriek in horror, and hold on for dear life. The muo barkeep, busy mixing a green-ish drink, wiggled an antenna in acknowledgement of the signal, and proceeded to walk over.

"Sir, is there a problem with your meal?" The muo asked politely, while three of its eyes remained fixed on mixing the drink in front of it.

"Can you take it back please? I can't bring myself to eat it, it doesn't feel right. Feels a bit ungentlemanly somehow." Luc told the muo, staring at the little tyke that had gone eerily quiet in the presence of the muo, and was swinging back and forth underneath his pinky finger, desperately trying to hold on.

"Sir, there are no refunds allowed, but if you'd like I'll happily get rid of it for you" said the muo.

"That would be fine, thank you" said Luc, feeling slightly guilty and culturally insensitive for not trying his food.

"As you wish sir, and again, may I wish you the happiest of birthdays on behalf of Frei's Tavern" said the muo, as its right tentacle wrapped around the little demon, and gently tugged it off of Luc's finger as it squealed pitifully.

"Pussy." Exclaimed a laughing voice in Luc's head.

"I'm not a pussy, just… not the type of person who likes to eat demons, okay? They're too.. toothy, and it didn't feel sporting, poor thing looked terrified." Luc thought back while blushing.

Kira sighed and jokingly said "You're so cute… talking about it being 'sporting' when I've seen you almost get into a bar brawl over not sharing your birthday cake before. What was it… a chocolate cake from Atlanta? Didn't you almost draw your sword when that gentleman asked for a slice?"

"Thanks for bringing it up, love. I'm sad we couldn't split a cake this year - I love it when you come with me to try a new planetary birthday special.

Luc silently watched as the muo disappeared into the back with the tiny creature still squirming in its grasp. He swirled the last of his Gale Ale and took a slow sip, eyes lingering on the space where the demon had dangled from his hand.
