Chapter 2 - A second chance?

Just as his mind began to finally calm down, the noises of the world around him coming to a stop, it began to rise again...hearing his name repeated several times but not by one of the voices he knew.

He gradually felt his strength coming back for some reason, he didn't understand why but he knew something was different this time, a female's voice echoed in hisears.

Lin Xin! How long are you planning to stay asleep? It's about time you went to the academy.

He opened his eyes and saw an old female figure standing beside him, he didn't know who that was but he felt as if he's supposed to know who she is, so he said nothing and just looked at her for a while, trying to piece together what happened to him or why he's there in the first place.

Are You just gonna stay there? Come on get up so you don't miss the first lesson.

She stared at him waiting for a response.

Who....Who are you?

He felt that something was truly off about this place, her clothing, the room he was in, everything seemed like he was either in a traditional area or he was sent to the past for some reason.

The female beside him began to frown, She couldn't believe the words coming out of his mouth, She was speechless.

Have you lost your mind? Or have you hit your head a bit too hard? I'm your mother you idiot, Now get up before I hit you myself this time.

He was stunned at hearing the words she said, he remembers that his mother died when he was a child, who could this woman be? He looked around him and saw that everything in that room seemed a little....too old?

Before he could say anything, he heard someone shouting his name from outside.

Hey Lin Xin! Are you there?

He moved towards the window on his left, peeking out of it he saw two males waiting outside the gate, they seemed no older than he is.

Not wanting to seem too weird, He decided to go with it until he could figure out where he is or what happened to him after that accident.

I'll be down in a minute.

Wait for me.

Without any further delay he waved his "mother" goodbye and decided to wash his face first, But he was met with a strange sight, this home was a bit too big, he didn't know where he should go.

Just then, he heard another voice telling him to go prepare before leaving.

He turned his head to look at where the voice came from, and it turned out to be a younger boy that seemed to have known him, he decided to ask him for directions since he wouldn't suspect him too much.

The boy guided him towards where he wanted to go and left, saying something before he left.

But I was too caught up in my own thoughts to hear what he said correctly. I just did as I wanted and went to the main gate to meet my friends, they've been waiting for a while now.

It took you this long to come meet us? Be faster next time senior.

Said the first friend, as he looked towards his other friend waiting for him to say something as well.

Yeah...I thought you decided to take the day off or something, we have to hurry so we don't miss the lecture. It is said that one of the elders will provide us with valuable insight.

Lin Xin looked at them coldly, he had no idea what they were talking about in the first place, he has already finished university so what lecture were they talking about? Even so he felt that there was no reason for him to say anything, he just had to follow them around until he could figure things out on his own.

No, I don't plan on skipping anything, lead the way.

They went to attend the lecture together, there he was met with another strange sight, this architecture...it's not what he's used to. The academy in front of him was large. Too large.

Although he was feeling weird about the entire thing, He didn't comment on anything along the way, he was just staring at the people on the streets and the homes he saw, he began to believe this was not his world. Something seemed off about this place But he decided on finding answers later, now was not the time.

As they began to take their seats, an old man entered the room, he looked as he if was in countless battles.

Greetings, Juniors. I'll be your instructor for the day, we have much to do.

Time seemed to pass slowly, Lin Xin felt as if everything was taking too long. He eventually felt sleepy and just slept in the middle of the class, his instructor, senior Guo Jian looked at him with pity, he decided to ignore him and focus on teaching the rest of the juniors about the clan's history.

While asleep, Lin Xin felt the entire accident repeat in his head again, How he was gasping for air before finally taking his last breath. He thought that was the end for him, But for some odd reason he was still alive, and he looked different....those were questions he didn't understand yet, but this wasn't the only thing on his mind.

He remembered his final thoughts on how he lived his life, he was debating whether he did the right choices or not, his nature to isolate himself...was it real necessary? He was thinking about this for a while before this entire thing happened, it seems like he finally reached his desired answer though.

He felt as if he still didn't need anyone, he wouldn't care about whoever is in his path if it meant that he'd finally gain the power he desired, if his entire life was to restart again, he would take the same actions. He felt no regret or sorrow. He decided however to entertain those people this time.

I don't have to be myself with them. I can keep my inner thoughts hidden, being good means nothing if I don't get what I want. If it seems like I'm stuck in another world then I don't care, I'll still live my life the way I want, even if it means to take drastic measures.

As he finally began to wrap up his thoughts, he felt a hand on his shoulder, it was a soft and a gentle touch, his eyes slowly opened to see a girl that was next to him closer than she should.

Lin Xin! Have you not got any sleep at all yesterday? You slept through the entire class like a baby.

He looked closely at her, she seemed to resemble someone he once knew, but he couldn't figure out who.

He knew her name was Wu Yutong.

She was definitely far from ordinary, she was the most beautiful in their class.

However, he didn't understand why she would come to him, he looked at her with his usual cold expression waiting for her to talk.

I know this may seem a bit sudden...but I've been falling behind in my studies lately, and everyone knows you're the most gifted in the first year...could you spare some time to explain some terms to me?

I don't have the time.

His answer shocked her, she was not used to rejection from men, she thought he'd jump at the opportunity to be with her for a while.

Before giving her time to speak another word, he got up from his seat and walked towards the door. leaving her shocked, she didn't understand why he was this cold towards her.

As Lin Xin left the academy, he found himself alone in the streets of the city, he has memorized the way back to his home, but he wasn't planning on going back just yet.

Just as he was walking slowly and taking looks around, he noticed a beggar on the street with ragged clothes, the beggar noticed him as well.

Please help me sir..I haven't eaten anything in days....

He said in a quiet tone, as if he was approaching his limit, Lin Xin, threw him a gold coin.

The old man was shocked, he never got to have a single bronze coin before, so a golden one was not something he was used to, but for Lin Xin, he had plenty of them so it didn't matter much to him.

Thank you....Thank you so much! I'll never forget your kindness in my life!

Lin Xin turned his head and began to walk forward again, but he heard something that made him stop in his tracks.

I know you're not from here, sir. However since you helped me I will give you something back in return.

It's not something that I have on me currently but it'll help you cultivate much faster than your other peers. To the north of the city there is a ruin of an old temple that was said to have unknown power, not many people have the courage to go there but I feel like you could do it, I won't expose your secret though so don't worry sir.

He was shocked upon hearing this, how did he know he's not supposed to be there? And this place he just mentioned....what is so special about it? He decided to think about it later and continue his path towards his home again.

He arrived after the sun has set, he took a longer amount of time to comeback from the academy today, so his mother was worried about him.

She waited for him at the front gate with a boy next to her, that same boy that guided him earlier that day.

He looked at them for a few seconds before going inside, not saying a single word.

They knew he was a cold person...but why was he so unusual today? His mom said nothing and got inside too, along with his little brother.

Back in his room, Lin Xin was thinking about the events of the day, from how he woke up to the beggar he met on the streets, he gradually began to understand hissituation.

So I've died back then, at the accident...and I took on the body of this person.

It's quite funny that he shares my same name as well, however, there are things that I don't understand yet....cultivation...I only heard about it from modern novels, could it actually be a thing in this world?

Ugh...It's too much today, I'll just sleep and decide what to do tomorrow.

As he finally drifted into sleep, he found himself looking back at his actions again...who is he really? What's his purpose in this world? Did he even deserve a second chance? And if he did, why him out of everyone that was definitely more deserving? All those questions were in his mind.

It seemed like he was not gonna be free from those thoughts any time soon...his goal....he wanted to live a life that he didn't have back then, Making his own path without worrying about the dangers that he would face.

He knew it wouldn't be something easy, but he decided to do what he wants no matter what the cost is, whether he was kind or not is something he did not care about any longer, if fate itself was against him, then he'd go against it.

His resolve became even stronger, his thoughts about other people have changed, he no longer saw them as equals, but as means to an end, his friends, his family, even his entire clan. He'd give them up if it meant he'd achieve his goals.

He planned to check the ruins of the old temple that the beggar told him about earlier that day, but for now, he wanted to learn about the world he was in and how cultivation worked. He decided to ask his friends about everything tomorrow.

His mind finally began to calm again, he thought about the female that talked to him in the academy before he slept, she had a strong resemblance to someone he knew, he remembered the name Zhou Xinyi. He lost most of the memories he had of his previous life for some reason, this name however remained in his head, he couldn't make much of it, he decided to talk to her when the time is right.
