Chapter 29 - Chapter 29: Groudon (Not Really)

Wait, who?

Calca rubbed her eyes and looked again, even finding herself reading the words aloud: "Today, I met an old Magic-type geezer from the south. He said his name was Fluder Paradyne..."

"The First Holy King actually knew Fluder?!"

Calca was genuinely stunned. Fluder Paradyne was the pinnacle of indigenous humanity in the original story—the only individual to reach the Sixth Tier through his own self-taught research, a being over Level 40 who had lived for over two hundred years. She hadn't expected that during the early days of the Holy Kingdom's founding, this heavyweight had already crossed paths with the First Holy King.

Driven by curiosity, Calca read on, only for the diary's contents to plunge her into silence:

[I have never seen someone with such complex mana within their body. Magic-type takes up more than half, and the rest is Psychic and Faith. Is this old man an idiot? The three branches of mana are not interchangeable. No, I have to test his depths.]

[...This little old man actually has a talent stronger than mine! He's at the Sixth Tier in Magic-type, and even his Psychic and Faith branches have reached the Third Tier. Does he have a way to convert mana?]

[Dammit, he doesn't. He's a fool! With talent like that, why not go all-in on breaking through to the Seventh Tier instead of wasting time on the other branches? Curse it, Fluder says he can't find any data on the Seventh Tier, and he's nearing the end of his life...]

[Fluder once went to the city of the Eight Greed Kings seeking guidance but was rejected. This makes me realize that magical knowledge must be passed down and shared, lest people be stifled by such frustration.]

[But just as he is blocked before the Seventh Tier, I am blocked before the Sixth. The Holy Kingdom is too barren; I can't even find a single Sixth-Tier Faith-type spell. Fluder mentioned a woman in a hero's party who is very gifted (perhaps referring to Rigrit of the Thirteen Heroes); maybe I'll go check that out later.]

[Sigh, the little white-bearded man is about to die of old age. He doesn't want to become undead, so he's studying other branches just to stay alive. It's true, Magic-type lacks healing spells. The Fifth Tier of Faith-type can touch the domain of healing one's lifespan—I can do it, and I've even simplified it thanks to my Talent. Unfortunately, only someone with my specific Talent can learn it, otherwise, it would be a national treasure.]

[Fluder discovered a "Forbidden Spell" system within the Psychic branch that can grant immortality, but he didn't choose it. Instead, he mixed the three branches to create a Great Ritual Magic equivalent to the Sixth Tier. Because it requires a massive number of magic casters, he's looking for a nation to cooperate with.]

[I saw right through his predicament. The Slane Theocracy must have offered terms he couldn't accept. This is the perfect time to show the Holy Kingdom's value! I'm currently negotiating with the Theocracy to forge a national treasure (the Crown); I can trade magic knowledge for the manpower needed to help him complete the ritual. That way, I gain the friendship of both parties and might even convince Fluder to stay.]

[...The negotiations ended successfully for everyone. But Fluder doesn't want to stay in the Holy Kingdom. He says he wants to open a magic academy, but the education here is gatekept by the Temple and smells of stagnant air. Those bastards—I'll definitely deal with them later.]

[Fluder left in the end; he has his sights set on the Empire. Unwilling to let him go, I challenged him to a fight in the Abelion Hills to try and make him stay.]

[...No, I swear to ****, you little old man, will you die if you don't fly?! Have some guts and come down here, I'll definitely beat you until you're ***! Dammit, when I get back, I am absolutely learning Flight magic.]
