Chapter 96 - A Promise of Resurrection

After the others left, Tsunade kept Karin behind.

She praised her directly.

"Karin, you did well this time. And I didn't expect you to master the Strength of a Hundred Seal so quickly."

Shizune added with visible envy:

"That's right! Learning the Strength of a Hundred Seal in such a short time… you're incredible."

She had followed Tsunade for years — studying under her (and taking care of her) — yet had never succeeded in mastering the technique. That alone spoke volumes about its difficulty.

"Hehe, it's nothing. It's all thanks to you, Master."

Karin scratched the back of her head shyly.

Tsunade then went over several fine points regarding control and release of the Strength of a Hundred Seal. Finally, she said:

"Karin, now that you've mastered the seal, it's time to begin the next phase of training."

Karin immediately straightened.

"Yes, please instruct me."

"Good. I'll teach you how to fight while maintaining continuous self-regeneration with Katsuyu's support — maximizing both battlefield endurance and autonomous healing. Come see me at dusk."

"Yes, ma'am!"

Orochimaru's Base — Several Days Later

Inside a training ground—

Boom!

Sasuke slammed violently into the wall. His Three-Tomoe Sharingan flickered and deactivated.

Once again, the so-called "invincible prodigy" lay defeated.

Opposite him, Kabuto sighed helplessly.

"Sasuke, I've told you countless times. Your priority right now is strengthening the foundation of your Yin Release chakra — not challenging me without purpose."

Sasuke nearly coughed up blood.

He had initially intended to challenge Orochimaru directly to accelerate his growth. Kabuto had stepped in instead.

But Sasuke had completely underestimated him. In his mind, even if Kabuto teamed up with the Sound Four, he should still win.

Then Kabuto calmly used Senjutsu to educate him.

Sasuke lost without ceremony.

From that day forward, Sasuke challenged Kabuto daily.

And lost daily.

Kabuto occasionally mocked him, provoking Sasuke's pride — which only resulted in another defeat.

When Nagi arrived, he looked down at Sasuke sprawled on the ground.

"How is he?"

Kabuto bowed respectfully.

"Lord Nagi, after several days of stimulation, Sasuke's Yin Release chakra — both quantity and quality — has exceeded the required threshold."

"Well done, Kabuto."

"It was my duty."

Hearing this, Sasuke sprang upright.

"Stimulation? Threshold? What are you talking about?"

Nagi smiled faintly.

"For the past few days, I had Kabuto spar with you deliberately. The taunts were intentional as well — all to push your Yin Release chakra past the threshold required for awakening the Mangekyō Sharingan."

"What?!"

Sasuke rushed forward.

"Then that means… the truth about the Uchiha Clan—"

"Yes. It's time you knew."

Two and a Half Years Earlier

On one of Sasuke's Yin Release training days, he witnessed Nagi and Orochimaru forcibly stimulating Shin Uchiha into awakening the Mangekyō Sharingan.

Sasuke froze.

"What— what is this? Is he from the Uchiha Clan? And those eyes… that's the Mangekyō Sharingan, right? Just like Itachi's?!"

Nagi calmly replied:

"Slow down. One question at a time.

His name is Shin. He calls himself 'Uchiha Shin.' His physique is… special. Orochimaru and I used him in Mangekyō research.

And yes — those are the same eyes your brother possesses. The Mangekyō Sharingan."

Sasuke stared at the surrounding incubation tanks — each containing Mangekyō Sharingan.

His mind reeled.

He already knew Orochimaru was cloning Sharingan.

But mass-producing Mangekyō Sharingan?

Was the Uchiha Clan's sacred power now this… cheap?

He immediately begged Nagi and Orochimaru to help him awaken his own Mangekyō Sharingan.

But Nagi stopped him.

"The primary condition for awakening the Mangekyō Sharingan is sufficient Yin Release chakra — both in quality and quantity.

If either is lacking, awakening may fail. Worse, your body may compensate using Yang Release chakra, severely draining you and causing irreversible side effects."

Even so, Sasuke insisted.

Nagi continued:

"The Mangekyō Sharingan isn't as invincible as you imagine. Its dōjutsu power declines with use. Eventually, you'll go blind.

The Yin Release training I'm teaching you greatly reduces those side effects.

So there's no need to rush."

But Sasuke remained stubborn.

Finally, Nagi's tone turned stern.

"Sasuke. Awakening the Mangekyō without sufficient foundation will severely damage your body.

And if you continue to act recklessly…"

He paused deliberately.

"I'll resurrect Aunt Mikoto with Impure World Reincarnation and tell her that you insisted on sacrificing your eyesight for revenge. Do you think she'd be happy watching her son go blind?"

Sasuke paled instantly.

"N-No… please don't tell my mother. I'll train properly. I promise."

He became obedient at once.

Nagi nodded.

"Good. You will awaken the Mangekyō Sharingan — when your Yin Release chakra exceeds the proper standard. At that time, I'll tell you the truth of the Uchiha Clan Massacre."

"…Thank you. And… about my mother…"

Sasuke hesitated.

Nagi smiled gently.

"Why resurrect Mikoto now? To tell her her sons intend to kill each other?

Or later, after revenge is fulfilled — to tell her her younger son killed her elder one?

Either way, it would only cause her suffering."

Sasuke lowered his head.

"…I understand."

No matter the outcome, it would wound her heart.

Nagi placed a hand on his shoulder.

"Sasuke, I understand the pain of losing family.

I haven't resurrected mine either. I'm waiting until I become strong enough to shield them from every storm — until I can bring them back into a world with fewer worries."

Sasuke was shaken.

Then his expression brightened with resolve.

"Yes. I'll grow strong enough to protect Mother… to protect the Uchiha Clan. So when that day comes—"

He extended his little finger.

"Please resurrect her for me."

FugaShiranui Kū Uchiha: …And what about me?

Nagi chuckled softly.

"Alright. It's a promise."

Their little fingers hooked together — sealing the vow.
