Chapter 69 - Elite Evaluation: Stepping Over the Line

[Ding! Detected a group of mysterious individuals approaching the host. Phase One of the mission to sabotage the mysterious organization has begun. Upon completion, you will receive an additional reward: Alolan Vulpix Template Fragment A!]

Just as Gu Qiu was planning his next move, the system notification sounded.

"Alolan Vulpix Template Fragment A?"

"Template fragments can be combined to form a complete template. Alolan Vulpix currently requires three fragments. There is a chance to obtain them in subsequent mission phases."

Gu Qiu blinked, then looked down at the little fox in his arms with an odd expression.

This little one's luck was truly extraordinary—her template fragments were appearing almost immediately after birth.

"Vulpix!" (Master, if you stare at me like that, I'll get shy.)

"You're too cute."

"Pikachu, this next task is yours. You've been cooped up long enough, haven't you?"

The moment he said that, Pikachu's face lit up with excitement.

"Really? Master, you're the best!"

It had indeed been holding back.

Ever since coming to this world, it had only gone all out once in the early years against a troublesome opponent. After that, it had mostly been bullying weaker foes.

Now, with Super · Self-Regeneration—

Pikachu was itching to cause a storm.

"You all stay out with me."

Gu Qiu didn't recall them into Poké Balls.

After all, Vulpix had just been born. Sending her back inside immediately would be too cruel.

[Mysterious individuals detected 300 meters ahead. Total: 7. Exercise caution.]

"Captain, why did the boss send us here to guard this place and occasionally release that stuff that agitates Pokémon emotions?"

The speaker wore plain black clothing with no insignia.

"Don't ask questions. Just follow orders. If the boss gets angry, you won't like the consequences."

The one called Captain wore the same outfit, except for a blue stripe across his back.

There was nothing on their clothing to identify their organization.

"My bad."

Pikachu had already approached silently.

With its genjutsu abilities, these ordinary humans posed zero threat.

"Pikachu, make your move. Extract information."

Gu Qiu listened briefly but heard nothing useful.

"Got it."

Pikachu's eyes shifted into Mangekyō Sharingan form, spinning slowly.

"Demonic Illusion · Shackling Stakes Technique!"

Within the mental world constructed by the caster, the victims would feel as if stakes were piercing their limbs, immobilizing them completely while experiencing illusory physical pain—a torture-level interrogation method.

Almost instantly, all seven were trapped in the illusion.

Efficient.

Very Pikachu.

For a moment, Gu Qiu felt like he had returned to the Naruto world.

Less than ten minutes later, he had gathered the available information.

Unfortunately, it was incomplete.

These operatives had only been given orders—no explanations.

"Team Rocket."

"Lance."

The mastermind behind this operation was Lance—

One of Team Rocket's most ruthless senior executives.

Cruel. Feared. Revered by many within the organization.

Some even believed he ranked just below the top commander.

Their target—

Cerulean Cave.

Their role here was to spray a hallucinogenic compound developed by Team Rocket.

Wild Pokémon exposed to it would become irrationally aggressive and violent, attacking humans indiscriminately.

That explained the recent outbreaks along Route 24 and the surge in injured Pokémon.

The drug only affected wild Pokémon.

Trained Pokémon had lost much of their wild instincts; the compound couldn't activate their "feral factor."

"What should we do with them, Master?" Pikachu asked.

"Kill them."

Gu Qiu's tone was calm.

This wasn't cruelty.

Against evil forces, only force could answer force.

"Cerulean Cave… Mewtwo."

He frowned slightly.

Truthfully, he wasn't eager to encounter Mewtwo.

Mewtwo was extremely powerful—and volatile.

According to canon, it despised humanity, yet was also drawn to its goodness.

"I'll go take a look."

"With Flying Thunder God in place, even if Mewtwo attacks without warning, I can escape."

[Ding! Phase One complete. Reward: Alolan Vulpix Template Fragment A!]

[Phase Two triggered: Enter Cerulean Cave within approximately three hours. An unexpected surprise will occur. Reward: Alolan Vulpix Template Fragment B!]

"Arrive within three hours for a surprise?"

"When did the system become this generous?"

Lorelei's official mission had simply been to train nearby and draw out Team Rocket operatives.

It hadn't required entering the cave.

"Whatever. Going to the cave still aligns with the objective."

"It's not far from here. I'll train a bit first."

"As long as Pikachu stays at full strength."

Inside Cerulean Cave, only Pikachu would truly be battle-ready.

Two and a half hours later—

Gu Qiu arrived near Cerulean Cave, covered in dust but visibly excited.

As expected of Cerulean Cave.

The Pokémon quality here was incredible.

Most were between Levels 30 and 45.

Kirlia and Milotic had both reached Level 33.

Mission accomplished.

Alolan Vulpix had absorbed enough energy cubes to reach Level 2.

Gu Qiu arrived early, just in case.

"Kirlia, Vulpix, Milotic, Greninja—you'll need to return for now."

If Mewtwo appeared, things could get dangerous.

"Go ahead, Master. We understand."

Soon—

Only Gu Qiu and Pikachu remained.
