Chapter 62: An Explosive French Kiss

The green-haired delinquent was named Janine.

He was once a third-year student at Fujimi Academy. He had dreamed of testing into the same university as the senior girl he so deeply admired—the highest-ranked academic institution in the island nation: the University of Tokyo.

Because of this, studying had become the absolute core of his daily life. Outside of his studies, Janine's greatest hobby was lurking near his senpai's home, watching her every move from the shadows.

He thought this routine would last forever, at least until he successfully enrolled in the University of Tokyo. Then, he would stand before her and say: "Hi, senpai, do you remember me? I'm your former junior, Janine."

However, just as he was wrapping up his third-year studies and preparing for the Todai entrance exams, disaster struck. He saw the senpai he so fervently adored walking hand-in-hand with another senior, one who also hailed from the University of Tokyo.

In that moment, he wanted to storm over and demand why she had broken their promise. But he didn't. He couldn't. There had never been a promise between them; it had all been a delusional fantasy playing out entirely in his own head.

To make matters worse, that senior was tall, handsome, and came from a wealthy family. Janine had nothing going for him outside of studying—he didn't even have friends. By comparison, he felt like a rat scurrying through the gutter. It was just like that line from an old movie: "A talented man and a beautiful woman are a match made in heaven. What right does a monster like you have to object?"

And so, from that day onward, his mind snapped.

He dyed his hair a bizarre shade of green that drew strange looks from everyone around him. He lost all interest in studying and abandoned his dream of entering the University of Tokyo. The only obsession keeping him going was hiding near his senpai's home every day, obsessively stalking her and her boyfriend's daily life.

He even considered writing and publishing a light novel to let the whole world know just how deep and profound his love for her truly was. Unfortunately, his manuscript was brutally rejected by the editorial department, condemned as angsty drivel. There was zero chance of it ever being published. Even when he posted it online for free, barely any readers bothered to look at his words.

Then, one fateful day, he received the news that his senpai and her boyfriend had gotten married and immigrated overseas.

That was the day he lost his mind completely.

He was no longer the gloomy, introverted Janine of the past. He began mingling with street thugs, biker gangs, and the dregs of society, eventually making a name for himself as the locally famous Green-Haired Nan.

When the zombie crisis erupted, his sheer insanity allowed him to gather a group of petty thugs under his command. They set up an ambush near this gas station, viciously venting his pent-up rage and madness on every passerby who dared to enter.

And today, a couple that looked perfectly matched had arrived at the station.

Looking at them immediately reminded him of his former senpai and the senior whose name he still didn't even know. Because of this, Janine told Suyan that as long as he left Saeko behind, he would let him live. He wasn't doing this for any grand reason—he simply wanted to prove to his senpai that her man was garbage, and that he was the only man truly worthy of her.

Deep down, Janine knew very well that he was only doing this to satisfy the pathetic, lingering shreds of his own bruised ego.

But he didn't care. He was going to do it anyway.

To his absolute shock, however, when he delivered his threat, the man didn't show an ounce of fear. Instead, the guy casually turned his head and told him that he was the one about to have a terrible day.

Hearing this, Janine couldn't help but laugh. The man standing before him didn't even have a weapon and looked like he couldn't even swat a fly. Meanwhile, Janine had over a dozen lackeys surrounding him, every single one of them armed.

Fifteen against one. The advantage was entirely his. How exactly was this guy going to make him suffer?

Thud.

In the very next second, Janine's throat was clamped in a vice grip, and he was hoisted completely off the ground.

Suffocation!

The raw terror of death began to flood his brain. He clawed desperately at the hand choking him, trying with all his might to pry it open. But the hand felt as though it were forged from solid steel. No matter how much strength he mustered, it wouldn't budge an inch.

In a panic, he shot a pleading look at the surrounding lackeys, begging for help with his eyes.

"Let our boss go!"

One of the thugs caught Janine's distress signal, hoisted his steel pipe, and charged forward, aiming a lethal swing right at Suyan's head.

Suyan calmly raised his free hand and caught the incoming steel pipe. Then, he delivered a single, brutal kick.

The thug was launched several meters through the air, slamming into a load-bearing pillar of the gas station awning. His body met the concrete with a sickening, heavy thud. Watching the lackey crumple to the ground, barely breathing, the others realized that even if he survived, he would be crippled for life.

"M-Monster!" someone stammered.

Realizing the situation had gone sideways, the thugs instinctively scrambled to flee.

They barely made a few thousand yen a month doing this; why would they throw their lives away? No, wait—being a thug didn't pay a salary at all. It was a purely negative-income lifestyle. Realizing this only made them want to run even faster.

"Nobody moves," Suyan said coldly. "Whoever runs, dies!"

He casually flicked his wrist, hurling the captured steel pipe. It embedded itself deeply into the reinforced concrete right at the feet of one of the fleeing thugs.

Staring at the quivering pipe buried in the cement, the thugs swallowed hard, entirely abandoning the thought of running away.

But that wasn't enough. Suyan spoke again, his voice chilling. "If even one person escapes, I will break the legs of everyone who stays behind. If you want to run, feel free to try."

With that, he carelessly tossed the green-haired leader aside.

"Cough! Cough! Cough!"

Janine fell to the floor, hacking and wheezing as he desperately sucked oxygen back into his burning lungs. He finally understood that he had kicked an impenetrable iron plate.

As for the surrounding thugs, not only did they discard any lingering thoughts of escape, but they also began glaring viciously at each other. They were terrified that one of their own would try to sneak off and doom the rest of them.

Could they bet that Suyan was bluffing? They didn't dare.

This was the classic crab mentality. If there was only one crab in a basket, it could easily climb out. But if there was a group of crabs, the moment one tried to escape, the others would drag it right back down.

Suyan reached out, his aura flaring as he Conjured two chains. One wrapped around the half-dead thug he had just kicked, dragging the broken man back to him. The other chain shot out into a dark corner, pulling out a hidden zombie that Suyan had already detected using En.

Saeko watched Suyan's actions in total confusion, unsure of what he was trying to achieve. However, she was sensible enough not to interrupt, quietly observing from the sidelines.

Suyan ruthlessly ripped the arm off the struggling zombie, letting the infected blood drip directly into the half-dead thug's mouth.

Saeko couldn't hold back her curiosity any longer. "Senpai, what are you doing?"

"Testing the infection vector of the zombie virus," Suyan replied casually.

He waited in silence for the results. After a few minutes, he noticed the thug wasn't exhibiting any signs of zombification. He then grabbed a piece of debris, sliced open the thug's skin, and smeared the zombie blood directly into the open wound.

The result was exactly the same.

This effectively ruled out bloodborne transmission. Suyan then turned his attention back to the thrashing zombie bound by his chain. Since people bitten by zombies turned into zombies, did the infection stem from the zombie's saliva? Or was it transmitted through the teeth themselves?

With this thought in mind, Suyan Conjured a pair of heavy pliers and meticulously yanked out every single one of the zombie's teeth.

The sight sent a freezing chill down the spines of the watching thugs. Janine, the green-haired leader, knew all too well that if this continued, the next test subjects would undoubtedly be them.

He didn't want to die. He absolutely refused to become one of those mindless, shambling monsters. He wanted to see his senpai again, even if it was just one last glance.

Driven by desperation, Janine quietly picked up the machete he had dropped earlier. Waiting until everyone's attention was diverted, he charged at Suyan without making a single sound.

In that fleeting moment, he felt possessed by the spirits of history's greatest assassins, delivering the most breathtaking, flawless strike of his entire life.

Unfortunately for him, Suyan seemed to have eyes in the back of his head. He effortlessly sidestepped the ambush.

"Honestly, why do you have to be so—" Suyan began, thoroughly annoyed. He was about to break the punk's legs to teach him a lesson, but the moment he laid eyes on Janine, he realized he didn't have to do a thing.

The man had already received his divine punishment.

Because Janine had charged in with far too much momentum, Suyan's dodge left him completely unable to brake. He crashed headfirst right into the bound zombie. To make matters infinitely worse, he collided perfectly face-to-face, pressing his lips firmly against the monster's mouth.

Even though Suyan had ripped out all of its teeth, the zombie's primal instinct to feed remained. It immediately clamped its jaw down on the prey delivered right to its lips.

And so, the surrounding crowd was treated to a truly explosive spectacle.

Janine was locked in a deep, passionate french kiss with a zombie.
