Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Rude Awakening (2)

Moving through the hallways together Reed and Frankling walked at a hurried, but steadied pace, a comfortable silence surrounding them.

Despite the situations they found themselves in.

But both men knew this is when keeping their heads cool was needed the most.

Thus, they both worked to keep their emotions in-check.

Lest either of them slips up in a big way.

Reed especially knew how important keeping himself in check was. Given his current situation. The other set of knowledge in his head. The memories. The knowledge of what might happen, or what's to come.

Just thinking about those possible events sent a shiver across Reed's entire body.

So, he decided to put them aside for now and focus on what was in front of him.

The well-being of himself, and his friends.

Continuing to follow Franklin, Reed found himself passing through a few more hallways until the two of them entered into a medical wing.

A few seconds after they did a figure sitting atop a bed, dressed exactly in the same clothes as Reed, turned their head and looked in the pair's direction.

The person in question none other than Susan Storm.

Franklin's eldest child and daughter, and Reed's girlfriend.

Who after Reed spotted felt immense feelings of love, relief, and so many other emotions he couldn't put into words well up inside of him.

"Susan." Reed happily spoke.

"Reed." Susan happily replied, a smile forming on her face upon seeing him.

Just as it did for Reed.

Who also took notice that Susan looked like a young Vanessa Kirby. The actress who played Susan Storm in the MCU version of the Fantastic Four in the life of healthcare worker Reed.

Reed having also noticed a while ago that he resembled a young John Krasinski, who played Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic in the MCU film, Dr. Strange Multiverse of Madness. Not Pedro Pascal like in the First Steps films of the MCU.

Oh well.

Not that Reed really cares right now.

Stepping forward towards Susan he gently grabbed her face and then brought her into for a quick kiss, Susan reciprocating it.

That it until her entire body, save for her clothes, disappeared shortly after the kiss began.

The moment this happened Reed backed up a bit. "Sue. Are you okay?" He worriedly asked.

"I am." Susan replied. "But ever since I woke up, this has been happening almost all the damn time." She complained.

While Susan did Frankling walked up to join the two of them. "Susan, remember what he talked about." Focus and breathe."

"Yes. I understand dad." Susan replied. She then did just that.

A moment after Susan did this her body became visible once again.

"So, I'm dating the Invisible Woman now huh." Reed mused.

"Yes, you are." Susan replied. "Although I don't just turn invisible." Susan revealed. "I'm not sure how, but it seems I can also generate force fields." She revealed. "Though thankfully that doesn't act up like the invisibility. Otherwise, I'd still be on lockdown and then some."

"Why?" Reed curiously asked.

"Because when Susan woke up, she generated a force field around herself that destroyed almost everything in her containment room, and almost the room itself before she managed to stop it." Franklin revealed.

"I see." Reed replied. Acting surprised, though inwardly he wasn't. Given the foreknowledge he now possessed about his and the other powers.

Though what happened with Susan drove home a point for Reed as why she was always called the strongest and most dangerous of the Fantastic Four.

As well as to make sure she doesn't do anything to truly piss her off in the future.

Since a happy woman equals a happy life.

"Well, at least things didn't end up any worse." He added. "Also, I'm so relieved you're okay Sue."

"Same for you Reed." Susan replied. "I had faith that you would. Even though they didn't let me visit you after I woke up."

"Oh, so you were the first one to wake up?" Reed asked. Franklin and Susan nodding their heads at his words. "And the others? Johnny, Ben, Victor?" He asked.

Since from what Reed could recall before his current situation the five of them were the closest to the machine when it went haywire, and he was certain the five of them were all engulfed in that bright blast of energy.

At the mention of Johnny, Ben, and Victor, both Franklin and Susan got downtrodden expressions on their faces. Reed noticing this immediately.

"What? What's wrong?" He asked. "Are the others not okay? Please, tell me." Reed spoke.

"Reed, it's...I honestly don't know." Susan admitted, a bit of fear in her voice. "Johnny and Ben still haven't woken up, and as for Victor..." She trailed off.

"What happened with Victor?" Reed asked.

"He escaped." Franklin finally spoke.

When he did Reed turned his gaze towards the man. "I'm sorry, what? Did you say Victor escaped?"

Franklin nodded. "He did." The man spoke once more. "It was shortly after Susan awakened. Victor followed her. But then a few days after he did, he breached the facility, killing a few guards on his way out. And no one has seen him since. That was a month ago."

"A month? How long have I been asleep?" Reed asked.

Doing his best to ignore the creeping sensation crawling up his spine given what he just learned about Victor Von Doom. A man who would make it his mission in life to destroy Reed and his friends over nothing but perceived slights and threaten the world over and over again do to nothing but his own brand of craziness and logic.

Just thinking of some of the feats Doom pulled off in the comics turned Reed's stomach.

"It's been two months since the accident Reed." Franklin revealed.

But before he could say anything else, just like earlier when Reed left his room alarms began going off across the entire facility.

The second after this happened Frankling unclipped a radio he was carrying on his belt and pressed a button on it. "What's happening? Someone, talk to me!"

"It's mister Grimm sir. He's awake and tearing everything in sight apart!" A guard replied.

"Oh no, Ben!" Both Reed and Susan said at the same time.

Reed knowing exactly why Ben was freaking now due to his foreknowledge. Since from the films to the comics, to the cartoons, the story of Benjamin Grimm, The Thing, was almost always the same. Ben, wondering if he was still human due to his transformation. Ben, beginning for help. Reed feeling guilty at not being able to help his best friend.

But knowing what he knew, this time Reed would change things for the better.

A look of determination appearing on his face he turned to Susan and Franklin. "We need to get over to Ben right now. He's freaking out and I doubt strangers working to calm him down, likely by force, is doing him any favors. What he needs are friendly and familiar faces."

"Reeds right dad." Susan agreed.

"I know that, Susan." Franklin replied. "So, follow me you two." He spoke. Franklin then started heading toward a set of double-doors at the other end of the medical wing.

Reed and Susan following behind him.

All of them knowing the sooner they got to Ben, the better.
