I sat at the head of the long table, resting my chin on one hand while pretending to look at the giant presentation screen. In reality, I was barely listening. 

Numbers blurred together in front of my eyes, money predictions, new business plans, and normal office talk that usually meant everything to me. Today, none of it mattered.

I raised a hand to rub my temple, trying to force my brain back to work. Across the table, a current team member was explaining the newest financial figures for our big eco-resort project. 

His voice was steady, but I could hear the tiny edge of worry in his words. The board members around us were nodding politely, yet a dark cloud of unease hung over the entire room. 

Ever since Christiana's sudden collapse, the whole business world had been watching our company like hawks. Every single move we made was being judged.
