Chapter 142 - Chapter 142: Lizards?

Just as Roxy had said, compared to other inns, this one had a truly distinctive appearance.

It was no longer built merely by piling up earth; instead, it used far more timber as building material.

This design gave the inn a greater sense of texture, offering a unique visual enjoyment.

Even more appealing was that this inn's price was quite reasonable—only 20 scrap iron coins per night.

For Dan Feng and Roxy, this was undoubtedly an extremely attractive choice.

Thus, they unhesitatingly decided to stay at this inn.

So why had they chosen to linger in Wind Port?

The reason was actually quite simple: Roxy still had some unfinished business here.

Originally, the adventurer party she had been with had accepted a suicide squad request for a labyrinth, planning to conquer this new maze.

However, just as they were about to reach their destination, a sudden mana calamity disrupted their plans.

Faced with this unexpected situation, they could only urgently seek a safe place to hide, ultimately choosing a cave. Then came the captain's accidental death, which led to the adventurer party falling apart.

But Roxy felt that doing this would at least fulfill one wish of their adventurer party. After all, when she had first arrived in Rikarisu Town from the Migurd race with no money even for food, this adventurer party had been willing to help her.

After hearing Roxy's explanation, Dan Feng expressed understanding and support for her decision, decisively agreeing to her request.

They discussed going to conquer that labyrinth tomorrow.

That evening, Dan Feng and Roxy ate the food provided by the inn on the first floor.

Sure enough, inns at every port basically served seafood dishes.

However, today's dish was made quite specially—a food Dan Feng had never seen before.

It was an enormous shellfish that looked like a giant bowl, filled to the brim with shellfish meat.

The meat seemed to have been steamed together with wine and a special aromatic seasoning, emitting an enticing fragrance.

Seeing this, Dan Feng used earth magic to create a pair of chopsticks, then picked up a piece of shellfish meat and put it in his mouth.

Instantly, a rich burst of umami exploded on his tongue.

This deliciousness came both from the natural sweetness of the shellfish itself and the mellow aroma of fine wine, leaving an endless aftertaste.

"So good!" Roxy couldn't help but exclaim as well. She ate one bite after another, her eyes squinting happily in satisfaction.

"Why didn't I ever come across such delicious food back when I was on the Demon Continent?"

Dan Feng recalled the descriptions of the Demon Continent he had read in books in Bloody Kant, and asked curiously, "The Demon Continent doesn't seem to have any particularly tasty food, right? The books in Bloody Kant say the Demon Continent is a gastronomic wasteland, and the worst of all is the meat of the Great King Land Turtle."

Roxy nodded in agreement. "Indeed, the Demon Continent really has very little good food—even desserts are almost nonexistent here."

"As for the Great King Land Turtle's meat…" She paused slightly, seeming to ponder how to describe the texture.

"The meat is very tough, extremely hard to chew, and the taste isn't great either." In the end, Roxy decided to tell the truth—after all, that unforgettable awful taste was truly hard to forget.

Because of that awful meat, she had eaten it throughout her entire childhood.

After dinner, with nothing else to do, the two returned to Dan Feng's room together. His room had a small balcony from which they could see the night sky of the Demon Continent.

Dan Feng and Roxy sat on the balcony, leaning against the wall, gazing together at the Demon Continent's starry sky.

It had to be said that although the Demon Continent overall was a barren type, the night sky here was much brighter than on other continents.

Roxy leaned against Dan Feng, looking up at the myriad stars, her heart filled with emotion about her life.

Bad things had always surrounded her, but after finding a lover, those things were dissolved by the sweetness of love.

Dan Feng's appearance was like a ray of light in her life, making her no longer lost.

...

The next morning, Dan Feng and Roxy arrived at the outskirts of Wind Port.

Since Drew and the others had never entered that labyrinth before, Roxy had long forgotten its location. Thus, they now had to rely on transportation and let a driver take them to the destination.

Roxy led Dan Feng to an open area, where the ground was covered with giant lizards.

These lizards had saddle-like objects on their backs, clearly meant for riding.

"Lizards?" Dan Feng stared at these lizards in surprise, but after thinking about it, he understood. After all, this barren Demon Continent had no conditions for raising horses, so people could only use lizards as substitutes.

"That's right, these are the lizards unique to the Demon Continent," Roxy explained with a smile. "Like horses, they can be used as mounts."

"However, these lizards have a special trait: they rarely drink water and crawl at extremely high speeds. Once tamed, they become very practical riding mounts."

"The downside is that they're a bit bumpy."

After talking with the owner of the riding lizards, Dan Feng and Roxy learned that he knew the location of that labyrinth and even asked about intelligence inside the labyrinth.

This boss, who had been active on the Demon Continent for many years, was clearly very familiar with the geography here.

Without hesitation, Dan Feng and Roxy paid the fee, then followed a coachman-like person and boarded one of the enormous lizards.

This lizard was massive, with a spacious seat on its back that could accommodate several people.

With a shout from the coachman, the lizard began crawling slowly.

Though not fast, it gave a sense of solidity.

Dan Feng sat on the seat, observing the surrounding Demon Continent scenery with interest.

He found that the environment here was indeed extremely desolate, completely different from all the continents he had visited.

The trees in the forest were all a withered yellow, as if they had lost all vitality.

Occasionally, some magic beasts shuttled through the woods, their figures faintly visible among the dead branches and fallen leaves—some snake-like, some dog-like, seemingly common magic beasts of the Demon Continent.

Roxy sat quietly beside Dan Feng, gazing at the surrounding scenery as if recalling something.

Her gaze sometimes fell on distant mountain ranges, sometimes lingered on nearby dead trees—each sight stirring certain memories deep within her.

Although the Demon Continent couldn't compare to the Millis Continent or the Central Continent, for Roxy, this was where her adventurer journey had begun.
