Chapter 1 - Between Us, Always

Rafi and Aisha had been best friends since Class Six.

They fought over pens.

They shared tiffin.

They copied homework from each other.

And every year on Aisha's birthday, Rafi wrote the same message in her card "Best friends forever."

Neither of them ever questioned it.

They grew up in the same neighborhood in Chattogram. Evening walks by the quiet streets, exam stress, college dreams everything was shared.

Aisha wanted to study Business.

Rafi wanted to build his own tech startup one day.

They promised each other, "No matter where life takes us, we stay best friends."

But life has a strange way of testing promises.

In university, things slowly changed.

Aisha started getting attention. She was smart, kind and had the softest smile.

One day.she casually said, "Rafi, there's a senior who keeps trying to talk to me."

Rafi laughed and said "Oh? So you're popular now?" But that night he couldn't sleep.

Why did it bother him?

Why did the idea of someone else walking her home feel so wrong?

Days passed.

Aisha noticed something too.

Whenever she was upset, Rafi would bring her favorite chocolate.

Whenever she was stressed, he'd sit beside her silently until she smiled again.

Whenever she mentioned another guy, he became unusually quiet.

One evening while sitting on the rooftop under the soft orange sky, Aisha asked "Rafi… do you ever think… what if we're not just best friends?"

The air froze.

Rafi looked at her, heart racing.

"I've been trying not to think about that for two years."

Silence.

Then she laughed nervously ans said

"So… it's not just me?"

He shook his head.

"No. It's not just you.

They didn't confess dramatically.

There was no grand proposal.

Just two people who slowly realized.

They already loved each other.

They just didn't notice when friendship turned into something deeper.

But fear came next.

"What if we date and lose this?" Aisha whispered.

Rafi smiled softly.

"We won't lose it. We'll build on it."

He held her hand gently the same hand he had pulled while crossing roads since childhood.

But this time, it felt different, Warmer,Safer and Right.

Months passed.

There were small fights,Jealousy and Silly misunderstandings.

But unlike other couples, they already knew each other's worst habits.

She knew he overthinks.

He knew she cries when she's overwhelmed.

They didn't have to pretend.

Because love built on friendship doesn't need masks.

On the day of their graduation standing outside the campus gate, Rafi handed her a small envelope.

Inside was a simple note:

"Best friends forever."

"And now, partners for life?"

Aisha looked up, tears shining in her eyes and said

"Yes. Always."

Years later, nothing really changed.

They still fought over food.

They still teased each other.

They still walked side by side.

The only difference is....

Now when someone asked how they met,

Aisha would smile and say,

"He was my best friend."

And Rafi would add,

"And the best decision of my life."

Because sometimes,

the greatest love stories don't begin with butterflies.

They begin with friendship.

And grow into forever. 💛
