Kira woke up with a very serious problem.
She did not want to go back to Moonlight Corporation.
She lay flat on her bed, staring at the ceiling fan as it rotated in cruel indifference. If she stayed still long enough, maybe time would forget about her. Maybe the world would move on without demanding participation.
Moonlight.
Leo.
The vase.
Her soul attempted to gently separate from her body for the second time in twenty-four hours.
Her phone buzzed.
Kira flinched as if it had accused her of a crime.
She turned her head slowly.
Lucas Calling.
Absolutely not.
She stared at the screen as if it might explode. Her finger hovered above the answer button… trembled… then retreated.
"No," she whispered. "Oh God, what do I even say?"
The phone rang.
And rang.
And stopped.
Kira exhaled in relief.
Then immediately panicked.
"Oh no. Oh no no no. Now he thinks I'm unprofessional. Or worse, irresponsible…or dead..dead and irresponsible."
She rolled onto her side and buried her face in the pillow.
This was not how competent accountants behaved.
An hour later, dressed but emotionally unstable, Kira stood outside Moonlight Corporation glaring at the building like it had personally betrayed her.
"Just finish the work," she muttered to herself. "Then vanish..like a responsible adult…quietly. Without breaking historical artefacts or damaging your image."
"Kira!"
She froze.
That voice.
Slowly…very slowly….she turned.
Lucas stood near the entrance, arms crossed, expression balanced perfectly between worry and anger.
"Oh," she said weakly. "Good morning."
"No," Lucas replied. "We are not starting with good morning. Why didn't you answer my call?"
Her brain moved at lightning speed.
"Call?" she repeated, widening her eyes. "You called? When?"
Lucas stared.
She quickly pulled out her phone and pretended to discover something shocking.
"Oh! You called so many times! I didn't hear it. The local bus was crowded…very noisy. You know how it is."
Lucas blinked slowly. "You forgot?"
"Yes," she nodded vigorously. "Second day nerves….Getting ready…..Chaos."
He pinched the bridge of his nose.
"You can't just ignore calls, Kira. Especially from me. Especially after yesterday."
"I know," she said quickly. "I'm sorry. I'll check my phone more often."
"That's not the point."
He exhaled. "Listen carefully. Leo is not happy with your performance."
Her head snapped up. "What?"
"He expects results..fast results," Lucas said. "You need to finish this audit as soon as possible. Be sincere…Be professional and Be invisible. And most importantly do not make any mistakes."
She nodded rapidly. "I will become the least noticeable human alive."
Then she hesitated.
There was something she had to confess. She thought better spit it right now..so she mumbled hurriedly..
"…I broke his vase."
Lucas stopped walking.
"…You did what?"
"It was an accident!" she rushed. "The vase was right next to the door. Who keeps fragile objects near doors? I slipped and my hand just… lightly brushed it and gravity did the rest."
Lucas went visibly pale.
"Oh," he whispered. "Oh no."
Before he could fully collapse internally, his eyes shifted toward the gate.
He stiffened.
Kira followed his gaze.
A sleek black car rolled smoothly toward the company entrance.
Lucas swallowed. "That's Leo's car."
Both…Instant panic..
"I should go," Lucas muttered. "Immediately."
" Right" Kira agreed.
Both turned…
Too late.
The car stopped.
The door opened.
Leo stepped out.
Calm…Controlled….Observing.
Lucas physically shrank.
Kira went blank.
Leo's gaze landed on Kira.
Then Lucas.
"You," Leo said to Kira.
Her spine snapped straight.
"Go to your workstation."
"Yes," she replied instantly and almost ran toward the building, diving into the lift like survival depended on punctual spreadsheet analysis.
"And you," Leo added, gripping Lucas lightly but firmly by the arm, "are coming with me."
Lucas swallowed hard…
Inside Leo's office, Lucas stood stiff as a guilty child awaiting judgment.
"You will pay for the vase," Leo said calmly.
"Yes," Lucas replied immediately. "Today. I'll pay for it today. I'll pay for ten vases if necessary."
Leo raised an eyebrow. "Ten? So you and your disaster accountant have already calculated future damages?"
Lucas stiffened. "No, no….I didn't mean that. I only meant compensation for inconvenience."
"Inconvenience…" Leo repeated slowly.
His eyes sharpened.
"Why did you send a human into my office?"
Lucas hesitated. "She's good with numbers."
"She is human. An outsider."
"Yes," Lucas agreed carefully. "But she's efficient. And honest. And… naive..And harmless..
Leo's jaw tightened.
"This is not a place for humans."
"I understand," Lucas said quickly. "I'll look for a werewolf accountant. Someone strong, fearless, less… clumsy."
Leo laughed once, dark and short.
Lucas almost crying "No one wants to work here anymore," he said. "They call this company misfortune."
Lucas nodded awkwardly. "That… sounds accurate."
Leo leaned back in his chair.
"For now, she stays."
Lucas bowed his head in relief. "Thank you."
"Leave."
Lucas did not need to be told twice.
Elsewhere, Milo reclined in her office, phone pressed to her ear.
"No," she said lazily. "Don't worry. She's harmless."
She smirked.
"She is clumsy."
Later that afternoon, Leo sat behind his desk, reviewing documents, sipping calmly from a cup of hot coffee.
The door opened without knocking.
Kobi walked in.
"I want to talk," he said.
"No," Leo replied without looking up.
"Why?"
"I am busy."
Kobi folded his arms. "I want to join the office."
Leo finally looked up, eyes calm but knowing. "And where do you believe your expertise lies?"
"Finance Department."
Leo's gaze sharpened. "The finance department is full."
"There's one opening," Kobi said smoothly.
Leo leaned back. "And that would be?"
"I'll assist Kira in audits."
"She does not need assistance."
"She has no experience," Kobi continued. "And she will need protection in a place like this."
Leo's voice hardened. "I will not allow you to ruin this corporation's reputation by flirting with an accountant and that too a human. Company audits are critical. We do not mix insiders."
Kobi smirked.
"Your mother was human."
The air shifted.
Leo stood slowly.
"You will not speak about her." There was warning in his eyes.
"You lead this pack because of her," Kobi shot back. "But now humans are suddenly unacceptable?"
The tension exploded.
A chair scraped violently.
The desk rattled.
Power thickened in the air.
Then
Knock.
Both froze.
Another knock followed.
Someone was standing outside Leo's office.
And judging by the timing, today was not done humiliating anyone yet.
