[SYSTEM OBSERVATION LOG]
The sentence finished before Bram ever looked up.
"...is that y'get a clean face over a problem that's still workin' below it. Could hold a season. Could hold three. Then one morning it decides it's had enough."
He spoke to the empty air before him. No one stood there to listen. Still, he finished the thought in the same tone he had used earlier in the maintenance passage, before the fracture had taken him. The sentence had begun there, and unfinished things had weight. They pressed on the mind until they were completed.
So he completed it.
The unseen order that watched the world noted that his explanation was true. Lime render did fail beneath long foundation pressure, and it failed for precisely the reasons he had described.
Then Bram looked up.
