Isolde did not hesitate. The Winter Sovereign's eyes burned with white fire. She turned to the five thousand baby Glacial Wyrms swarming the hatchery floor.
The five thousand tiny, white-scaled dragons froze. They looked up at their Matriarch, their icy blue eyes snapping with sudden focus.
The innocent, chirping sounds vanished entirely.
A collective, high-pitched hiss filled the massive vault.
The swarm moved.
Lucifer walked calmly out of the hatchery, his heavy boots crunching on the frost. Elara and Sarah flanked him.
They stepped onto the wide, frozen avenue of the Silent Kingdom.
The Aether-Steel Dragoons and the Radiant Arch-Seraphs had held the perimeter perfectly while Lucifer was inside the Throne Room.
But the ambient noise of the city had changed. The shrieks of the remaining Glacial Hollows echoed off the sapphire ruins.
