Chapter 2 - The System

(Alright...what are you and what can you do?) Langston thought as he focused on the glowing blue screens.

As he said, the previous screens before him disappeared, and only a single screen remained, projecting two functions.

[System Functions]

[Status]

[Inventory]

"Only two functions...hmm, maybe it it simpliar then I expected," Langston muttered as he pressed on the status sections

Dexterity: 11

Spirit: 5

Skill: Monarchs Will[Lv.1] Intermediate-Kendo Mastery[Lv.24]

(Seems simple enough...if I had to guess, the experience came from those goblins, and my kendo training was registered as a skill, interesting, but since no other skills are here, it seems it's just combat skills)

Turning back to the previous screen, Langston pressed the inventory function.

[Inventory]

[Currency: 30 copper]

[Empty]

"Well, that was to be expected...but how does this thing work?" Langston wondered

Looking around, he picked up a pencil that had fallen on the ground and held it near the inventory panel. Once he did, the pencil disappeared into thin air, and the empty message changed.

[Inventory]

[Currency: 30 Copper]

[x1 Wooded Pencil]

Touching the first slot again, the pencil appeared within his hand once more. Dropping the pencil, Langston walked up to the two goblin corpses, placing them in this inventory alongside the two rusty knives.

As his classmates saw this, they began muttering to themselves, and some gasped in surprise.

(I guess the shock is expected...but right now, my main focus is getting Damian and the others to awaken and helping the rest get out of here)

Walking back towards Damina, Langston spoke

"Alright, I was able to find out some things."

"What is it?" Damian asked as he started into the hall

"I will speak it to everyone," Langston replied

"Listen up, everyone. I know you're scared shitless right now and have no idea what's going on. In truth, I had found out some things, and they will sound insane, but given everything that's happening, I urge you to take what I'm about to say seriously," Langston began

"Do you know why this is happening?" one girl asked

"No, but what I do know is that each of us here must kill at least one of these monsters... Doing so will allow you to awaken. I don't know what it will do to each of you, but it will give you the strength to fight back against these monsters," Langston explained

"Wait, you want us to go out thier and fight those monsters... you're out of your mind," the man yelled

"No, I don't expect anyone to do that. What will happen is that we will lead in one of the small goblisn liek the ones I killed, allowing you to awaken," Lansgton explained

"You want to bring those monsters in here. No, we should wait for the police to get us instead," another student replied

"No one will be coming...Listen after the first few minutes, have you heard a siren at all? Not all you have heard are people's screams. In truth, we don't know when the police or the military will ever come. So you can choose to stay here and wait for one of those larger monsters to find us, or you can fight for a chance at survival." Langston answered

"Students, Langston is right, we can't stay here, it's only a matter of time until something much more dangerous finds us. Especially since this classroom is mostly glass," the professor, Mr.Hargraves, added as he also regained his composure

"But how can we kill them. Sorry, but alot of us don't have the freakish strength you had when you killed those three," a student asked

"With these knives from the goblins I killed. I will hold it down as you guys kill them," Langston answered

"...Alright...I don't feel like dieing here," a female student spoke as she stood up, her hands trembling.

"You know I'm already with you," Damian added

"I guess we got no other choice,"

As more and more students agreed, the class removed the barricade, and Langston stood at the door with the Professor beside him.

"There is one in the hall by itself. I will draw it in a them once I do, you close the door and make sure no other ones get in," Langston explained

"Got it...be careful," Mr.Hargraves spoke

Opening the door, Langston stepped into the hall with his bokken in hand. Picking up the club, Langston threw it at the goblin's leg, causing it to turn around in fury.

Seeing Langston, it charged at him with its club in hand. As the goblin got closer, Lansgton was filled with a sense of calmness. Once the goblin reached his range, he struck forward and struck the goblin's hands and feet, knocking the club out of its hand and hitting its hand enough to break one of the goblin's feet.

As Mr.Hargraves opened the door, Langston dragged the injured goblin inside the class and held it down after breaking both its arms.

Looking down at the goblin's trash mouth and blood red eyes, Damian took a deep breath before clenching the knife and driving it deep within the goblin's eyes, killing it.

Letting go of the knife, Damian stood up as his eyes went wide. Just like Langston replied, a floating blue screen appeared before him, congratulating him on awakening.

With the first one down, Langston continued to aid each of his classmates and the professor to awaken.

But as the student told him their status details, he realized that no one had awakened a class, unlike how he had.
