Cassian sat at the small dining table alone. Chester was late.
He waited. And waited.
Chester never showed up.
His carriage was already ready, and he thought he'd have one more breakfast with Chester before he left to fetch Leonard. But the lord had proved him right after all.
He was supposed to be glad that the man finally revealed how inconsistent and untrue he was, but disappointment settled in the pit of his stomach. He at least thought that Chester would make it through a week.
Well then, he was glad he decided to test Chester; he did not need a man who would disappear on her.
Cassian did not touch the food.
He left the small dining room with his fists still closed and told himself the heat in his chest was principle. A man who named two weeks and missed breakfast was a man who would miss Lysandra. That was all. That was enough.
The courtyard was bright. The carriage waited, horses already stamped and ready for the palace road.
