Chapter 6 - Part 6 — Food.

So...

I know I just said that, but how the hell am I going to do that? I think I got a little carried away...

Besides, that was so cringe... I felt goosebumps all over my body, remembering the conversation from a few moments ago. How embarrassing...

Am I still a root?

Oh, how I wish I were an ostrich right now so I could bury my head in the sand.

Oh my God, that reminded me of my teenage years. I shivered all over remembering my dark days at school...

Ouch... Seriously, Lucca?

I can't believe I did that.

I really want to bury my head somewhere. Preferably between someone's thighs...

Thank goodness there were only those two around...

I sighed with relief, despite the great hostility of the two birds a few meters away. They really seemed to want to eat me alive, but they were equally hesitant.

"Yeah, I know. I should stop talking like I'm on a forum in 2012, right?"

I asked, waiting for an answer, but of course it wasn't coming. There's no way big chickens know what I'm talking about.

Not even my bros know. Imagine a couple of chickens.

Anyway, I think it's time to go, but first.

"Hey buddy, you got any food there?" I asked another question, but the pair just looked at me confused.

"Oh, come on! Food! Yam yam!"

They still didn't understand. So I mimed for a few seconds until they got it, but of course, nothing was easy, right?

Why does this bastard have to try to pick a fight?

"Stop, stop. Have you forgotten already?" I asked, pointing my "finger" at the feathered one who stayed in place. I'm going to have to learn to use my left hand, damn it; I can't even point anymore.

Anyway, this bastard is a bastard. He attacked my blind spot right away, even though he was stronger.

"Yeah, that's right, stand still," I smiled, feeling the wind blowing lightly on my right side.

Despite that, I was shaking inside. Thankfully, he's still hesitant. Phew.

Being smart isn't always a good thing. It makes it much easier to fall for bluffs like this.

I'm just not going to push my luck and leave in a little while, and we'll never see each other again.

"Let's do this, buddy; help me help you. I just want some food, then I'll leave."

Finally, after a few minutes and some miming, we managed to reach an agreement with the big guy flying around.

I did my best to convey my intention. What a difficult and stubborn creature.

.

.

.

Minutes passed before the big guy came back carrying a large lizard, throwing it in front of me.

"Calango..."

Man, how am I going to do this? In the meantime, I tried to make a fire, but it didn't work.

So I intimidated my feathered friend a little, stopping when the big guy came back. Poor thing, he was traumatized; he wouldn't even let me get close, even though he definitely wanted to kill me.

Anyway, I'll have to eat it raw; I couldn't even get a spark when I tried. I really miss my fingers.

It's either that or try to generate heat with mana. Let's try it.

Picking up the lizard, I sat on the ground with the animal on my lap. Its scaly, cold skin felt strange to me, but I ignored it and concentrated.

For the first time in a long time, I was going to try to circulate my mana.

That's it. Come on. You can do it.

I motivated myself a little before trying to channel the small amount of energy in the middle of my chest through my veins.

It took a while, only about five minutes...

But I did it. And I can't believe the channeling time was cut in half. Another victory.

It was also a victory that the mana slowly filled the veins in my arm, passing my shoulder for the first time.

Maybe a computer from the 90s would have been faster, but it was satisfying anyway.

It was like downloading a game. Half an hour of waiting until the mana finally reached my fingers.

My body was naked, drenched in sweat, but it wasn't time to stop. Now I needed to change the nature of the mana to generate at least some heat or go raw.

I always wanted to try the famous carpaccio or, for those closer to home, jaguar meat, anyway.

But of course, let's try the heat first.

That's probably the best I can do for now.

Thinking that, I let the mana spread to every point on my arm, simply trying to contain its output. Of course, I still lost a little in the process, but not much. With that, I began to make micro and macro muscle contractions, amplifying the movements with mana, creating friction and energy.

Hot energy that I slowly infused into the mana, changing its composition.

My heart felt like it was going to explode during the whole process, but somehow it worked...

Containing the mana in my veins again to avoid waste, I concentrated the thermogenic mana entirely in my hand, now simply feeding the process with more mana, accumulating heat.

Holy shit, it really worked. A feeling of pride filled my chest...

Of course, it didn't last long when I opened my eyes and realized how ridiculous those two were.

The big guy even seemed to want to throw something in my face while manipulating his mana back and forth inside and outside his body...

Asshole...

I gave a forced smile as I called him over.

"Give me a hand here and cut this animal for me."

I hadn't even finished asking before the lizard was cut in two, covering me in guts, organs, and blood...

Of course, I didn't care, leaving the place with only one side of the animal. The clean side, while putting my left hand directly on the raw meat.

Tough...

Extremely tough.

And it tasted like shit.

That was my impression about half an hour later, more or less, when I bit into the lizard.
