Ethan wasn't cruel. Just careless.
He loved fiercely, but he loved on his own terms. He cancelled plans last minute. He disappeared into work. He had a temper that flared fast and died faster — except the words he said didn't die with it.
Lia forgave easily.
Too easily.
"Why do you always push me away when you're stressed?" she once asked.
"I don't," he replied.
"You do."
He didn't apologize. He kissed her instead.
And for a while, that was enough...
