Chapter 13 - She Came to Kill Him… But Something Else Answered First

The forest did not return to normal.

Even after the departure of Seraphine Drakmor and her battalion, something lingered in the air—an invisible pressure, like the echo of a storm that had not fully passed.

Kael stood still for several seconds after she vanished.

His hand remained over his chest.

The mark beneath his skin pulsed.

Once.Twice.Then slowly… it faded.

But the sensation remained.

Warm.

Watching.

Waiting.

Nyx was the first to break.

She dropped to the ground with a heavy exhale, her staff slipping from her shoulder and resting against the grass.

"…I hate this world," she muttered, running a hand through her hair. "First the king tries to kill us, then she shows up like a walking disaster."

Her voice tried to sound annoyed—but there was fear beneath it.

Real fear.

Lyra didn't speak immediately.

She stood close to Kael, closer than usual. Her fingers hovered for a moment… before gently resting against his arm again, as if confirming he was still there.

"You felt it too… didn't you?" she asked softly.

Kael glanced at her.

"…Yeah."

Her eyes lowered slightly.

"It wasn't mana."

"No."

"…And it wasn't divine power either."

He hesitated.

"…I don't think so."

Fufuin's small form sat beside them, his tail still, his four eyes focused on the path where Seraphine had disappeared.

"…That woman is not merely strong," he said slowly. "She is refined. Controlled. A blade sharpened over countless battles."

Nyx let out a dry laugh.

"Yeah, thanks for the reminder."

Silence settled again.

But it didn't last long.

Fufuin's ears twitched.

All four of his eyes narrowed sharply.

"…We are not alone."

Kael's expression hardened.

"…Again?"

Before anyone could react—

The trees to their right shifted.

Not loudly.

Not violently.

But deliberately.

A presence emerged.

A single figure stepped into view.

A woman.

Tall. Composed. Wrapped in a long, dark cloak that moved gently with the wind. Her hair—deep black with faint violet undertones—fell past her shoulders, contrasting against her pale skin.

But what stood out most…

Were her eyes.

A soft gold.

Calm.

Observant.

Nyx's body tensed instantly.

"…You've got to be kidding me."

The woman raised her hands slowly.

Not in surrender—

But in peace.

"I am not your enemy."

Her voice was smooth. Controlled. Careful.

Fufuin didn't relax.

"…State your purpose."

The woman's gaze shifted.

Landing directly on Kael.

And for the first time—

Something in her composure wavered.

Just slightly.

"…So it's true."

Nyx stepped forward immediately, placing herself between the woman and Kael.

"Don't take another step," she warned, her fingers already glowing faintly with mana. "I'm not in the mood for surprises today."

The woman stopped.

Obeying.

But her eyes never left Kael.

"…My name is Aris Veyl."

She lowered her hood.

Fully revealing her face.

Sharp features. Elegant. Mature—yet not cold.

There was intelligence there.

And something else.

Something hidden.

"I am… an observer."

Nyx blinked.

"…That's not a job."

Aris ignored her.

Her attention remained fixed.

"…I was sent to confirm something."

Kael tilted his head slightly.

"And what exactly would that be?"

She took a slow step forward.

Careful.

Measured.

"…Whether you were real."

Silence.

Nyx's expression darkened.

"…Yeah, that sounds bad."

Lyra moved slightly closer to Kael again.

Not out of fear.

But instinct.

Fufuin's growl returned.

Low.

Threatening.

But Kael…

Didn't move.

"…And now that you've seen me?" he asked calmly.

Aris Veyl's gaze softened.

Just slightly.

"…Now I understand."

That was when it happened.

The air shifted.

Again.

Not as violent as before.

Not as overwhelming as when Seraphine stood before them.

But deeper.

More precise.

Aris's breath caught.

"…Ah…"

Her hand instinctively rose to her chest.

Her heart—

Was racing.

Not from fear.

Not from mana.

From something else.

Something that reached into her very being.

"…So this is… what they meant…"

Nyx's eyes widened.

"…What the hell is going on today?!"

Lyra felt it too.

Again.

Stronger this time.

Her fingers tightened slightly around Kael's sleeve.

Her breathing softened.

Fufuin's eyes sharpened.

"…Master."

Kael exhaled slowly.

"…It's happening again."

Aris took another step forward.

Then another.

Not forced.

Not controlled.

Drawn.

"…You…"

Her voice trembled slightly.

"…What are you?"

Kael smiled faintly.

"…I've been asking the same question."

Nyx snapped.

"Okay, that's enough!"

She slammed her staff into the ground, releasing a sharp pulse of mana that broke the tension for a brief moment.

"Back off. Right now."

Aris stopped.

But her expression—

Did not return to normal.

"…I see."

She lowered her hand slowly.

Took a step back.

Then another.

"…Then it has already begun."

Kael frowned.

"…What has?"

Aris Veyl looked at him one last time.

"…The convergence."

Silence.

Nyx looked ready to explode.

"…You're going to need to explain that."

But Aris simply shook her head.

"…Not yet."

She turned.

"…If I remain here any longer…"

A pause.

Her voice lowered.

"…I will not be able to leave."

Lyra's heart skipped.

Aris took a final step into the shadows.

But before disappearing—

She stopped.

Without turning.

"…You are dangerous."

A breath.

"…Not because of your power."

A pause.

"…But because of what others become around you."

And then—

She was gone.

Silence.

Nyx turned slowly toward Kael.

"…Okay."

A pause.

"…Explain."

Kael sighed.

"…I can't."

Lyra looked at him.

Softly.

"…But it's not something bad."

Nyx stared at both of them.

"…You two are insane."

Fufuin finally relaxed slightly.

"…No."

His voice was calm.

"…He is something far worse."

Kael laughed lightly.

"…That's not reassuring."

But deep inside—

He felt it.

Something was changing.

Not just in him.

But in the world.

And somewhere far away—

In a place untouched by sunlight—

A figure opened their eyes.

"…It has begun."
