Chapter 262 - The Voice of Ideals II

Max Airstream at absolute full power. The most destructive wind technique in the recorded League system, delivered through a Dynamaxed Primal Mega Pokémon that represented the pinnacle of Steel/Flying-type evolution, carrying the full authority of twenty years of partnership and a Gym Leader who had decided to hold nothing back.

The attack would flatten a mountain. Would shatter a building. Would annihilate any conventional Pokémon, any standard defense, any force barrier not specifically designed for Legendary-scale containment.

It was the most destructive technique Sasuke had faced since the beginning of his journey.

And he did not counter with force.

The decision happened in the space between heartbeats, the fraction of a second where the bond between trainer and Pokémon operated at a frequency that conscious thought couldn't reach. Not analysis. Not strategy. Not the calculated response of a mind processing data and selecting optimal actions.

Feeling. Pure, unfiltered, the current that Masaaki had described, the moment that arrives without being summoned, the brush that moves without being directed, the ink that falls when gravity decides and not a millisecond before.

Sasuke felt the hurricane approaching through Zekrom's electromagnetic field. Felt its energy, not as data but as presence, as intent, as the expression of everything Asuma and Skarmory were. The wind was Asuma's voice, and the voice was saying. this is everything I am. What are you?

And Sasuke answered.

"Zekrom, Bolt Strike. But not at Skarmory."

The dragon understood. Not because the command was clear, it was cryptic, incomplete, the kind of instruction that only a Pokémon sharing its trainer's consciousness could interpret. But Zekrom didn't need clarity. It needed truth. And the truth flowing through the bond was a truth the Dragon of Ideals recognized at the deepest level of its ancient awareness. the ideal of harmony. Not dominance. Not resistance. Harmony.

Zekrom aimed its Bolt Strike at the hurricane itself.

The dragon's body blazed with electrical energy, the void-dark scales disappearing beneath a shell of blue-white plasma, the turbine tail screaming past its damaged threshold into a rotational speed that shouldn't have been possible, the electromagnetic field contracting to a point and then expanding outward in a directed beam of electrical force aimed not at the steel bird behind the wind but at the wind itself.

The Bolt Strike met the Max Airstream twenty meters from Zekrom's body.

And the hurricane became electric.

The wind was air. Air was gas. Gas, at sufficient electrical charge, became plasma. And plasma was not wind, it was something else entirely, something that obeyed electromagnetic laws rather than atmospheric ones, something that a Dragon of Ideals with an electromagnetic field generator for a tail could manipulate the way Asuma manipulated wind.

The hurricane didn't stop. Its physical force continued, the compressed air still carrying the kinetic energy of Skarmory's wingbeat, still moving at near-sonic speed. But its character changed. The wind that had been Asuma's weapon became a conductor, a massive, rotating tube of electrified atmosphere that carried Zekrom's lightning through itself the way a wire carries current.

The current flowed backward.

Through the hurricane, along the path of the wind, back toward the source, back toward Skarmory, which hovered at the hurricane's origin point, which was connected to its own attack the way a hose is connected to a nozzle.

Zekrom's lightning rode Asuma's wind home.

In the VIP section, Kiyomi's hand stopped moving mid-sketch. "He turned the hurricane into a circuit," she said, and her voice carried the tone of someone watching a theory they'd been developing prove itself in real time. "Asuma's attack is carrying Sasuke's energy back to its source. He didn't counter the wind. He..."

"He flowed with it," Miyuki finished. "My God."

Asuma saw it happening. Twenty years of aerial combat gave him the perception to recognize the technique in the fraction of a second before it completed, the way the lightning arced through the wind, the way the electrified hurricane was rotating back toward Skarmory instead of dissipating after impact.

"He turned my own attack into his weapon," Asuma said. The words came not with anger or dismay but with something that sounded, impossibly, like pride. "Not by overpowering it. By flowing with it."

He met the Sprout Tower medallion that hung in his mind's eye, the carved wood, the wind-wrapped pillar, and understood that Elder Sōgen had called this boy "interesting" because Sōgen had seen, in the way that eighty years of measuring trainers allowed him to see, something that Asuma himself had only recognized in this moment.

Sasuke Uchiha hadn't defeated the wind. He'd become it.

"Skarmory, full defense!"

The command came too late for evasion and exactly on time for survival. Skarmory's remaining Iron Defense activated, every feather compressing, every metallic surface hardening, the entire Dynamaxed body becoming a fortress of layered Steel-type armor. The electrified hurricane struck its own creator with the combined force of Asuma's wind and Sasuke's lightning, the energy of two Legendary-scale techniques fused into a single impact event that detonated against Skarmory's Iron Defense in a cascade of electrical and kinetic force.

The explosion engulfed both Pokémon.

Inside the storm, the world reduced to its essentials.

No crowd. No cameras. No force barriers or magnetic platforms or broadcast systems. Just two Pokémon, two trainers, and the space between them, a sphere of electrified wind and metallic debris where visibility was zero and the only sense that functioned was the bond.

Sasuke felt Zekrom. Zekrom felt Sasuke. Together, through the merged awareness that had been their greatest achievement this day, they felt Skarmory, not as an enemy but as a voice in the conversation, a presence in the storm, a shape defined by its resistance to the forces around it.

Skarmory was close. Point-blank range. No room for evasion, no distance for ranged attacks, no space for the aerial superiority that had been Asuma's advantage throughout the battle.

At point-blank range, the fight was simple.

"Dragon Claw."

Zekrom's right hand blazed with void-purple draconic energy, the same technique it had used in the battle's first exchange, but charged now with the accumulated intensity of a Primal Dynamaxed Legendary at the limit of its timer, every remaining volt of power flowing into five curved talons that hummed with a frequency that made reality itself wince.
