Chapter 59 - 59 Battle of New York

As Harry, Thor, and Tony gazed skyward, the portal split the sky open, spilling Chitauri soldiers and gliders like a swarm of metallic locusts, their alien war cries echoing over Manhattan. The Quinjet and Rhodey reacted instantly, their rail guns blazing as they unleashed a relentless volley on the incoming horde.

Rhodey surged forward in his War Machine suit, moving with a nimble grace. With each pulse of his thrusters, he evaded blasts from Chitauri energy cannons, banking and rolling through the air, a smirk hidden behind his faceplate as he fired back. "Gonna have to do better than that!" he called out, launching a shoulder-mounted missile that arced through the sky and struck a Chitauri glider, erupting it in a blue fireball.

Below, the Quinjet responded just as fiercely, its rail gun whirring to life and ripping into the thick of the Chitauri fleet. Bullets streaked across the sky, tearing through armor, sparks flying as the aliens tried to dodge but fell into a withering storm of firepower. The Chitauri countered with blue energy beams, several striking the Quinjet's hull and causing the jet to lurch in the air. Clint gritted his teeth as he steady her, dodging left and right while narrowly skimming past skyscrapers.

Harry turned to Tony, gesturing toward the chaos unfolding in the skies. "Get suited up. The others could use the backup."

Tony nodded, as he remotely summoned his new suit, pieces already assembling mid-air as he prepared to launch himself into the fray. "Don't get into too much trouble without me."

As Tony readied himself to join the fighting, Harry tapped his comm. "Steve, where are you?"

"We're holding our ground at Midtown," Steve replied, his voice crackling through the line.

Without a word, Harry reached out, grabbing Thor by the arm. "Hold on." With a loud pop, they apparated to the center of Midtown, materializing just a few feet away from Steve and Bruce, who both jumped back, startled.

"What the—!?" Bruce exclaimed, clutching his chest.

Thor swayed slightly, blinking as he steadied himself. "I do not enjoy this... method of travel," he grumbled, trying to hide the dizziness that clouded his eyes.

"Thor, use your lightning to bottleneck that portal as long as possible. Keep them from flooding the city all at once," Steve instructed once Thor straitened himself out.

Thor nodded with a grin. With a swing of his hammer, he shot into the sky, leaving a crackle of thunder in his wake. Almost immediately, dark clouds began to gather, drawn to his power as lightning lanced through the thickening storm above.

Meanwhile, Harry stepped forward, raising his wand high and waving it in a circular motion. "Expecto Patronum!" he called, his voice ringing through the deserted street. From his wand, an ethereal glow burst forth, taking shape as four radiant forms: a graceful silver doe, a powerful wolf, a fierce grim, and a stately stag. The Patronuses gleamed like moonlight.

Harry closed his eyes briefly, issuing instructions. "Check the city—every alley, every corner. Make sure no one's left behind."

The four silvery creatures darted off in different directions, weaving through the empty streets like spirits in a haunted city, their soft light contrasting with the ominous shadows cast by Thor's powers. As they moved, their glow highlighted the eerie emptiness below—a New York abandoned, like the setting of a zombie movie.

"What's the status of the portal?" Bruce asked, as his eyes tracked the flashes of light and streaks of alien gliders in the sky.

"We tried everything—technology, magic, brute strength—but nothing's been able to shut it down," Harry explained. "The Tesseract's energy is too powerful, and whatever protective measures Loki added seem to amplify it. But," he added, a glimmer of hope in his voice, "we managed to get Dr. Selvig to snap out of Loki's mind control. He told us he built a fail-safe into the device."

Bruce's brow furrowed. "A fail-safe?"

Harry nodded. "Selvig said that Loki's scepter will be able to neutralize it. As they have the same energy signature, we should be able to close the portal."

As the dark clouds swirling in thick layers across the sky increased, the air grew charged with electricity. Thunder began to roll ominously, reverberating through the city's skyscraper canyons. Bruce, Steve, and Harry glanced up as flashes of light sparked in the heavens. A low rumble built up, growing louder until it felt like the entire city was holding its breath.

With a sudden, deafening crack, a massive bolt of lightning struck the spire of the Chrysler Building, illuminating it in a crackling glow. The entire structure shuddered as Thor, summoned the storm's fury to his command. Sparks danced off his armor, his eyes glowing with divine intensity as he directed Mjolnir toward the portal.

A colossal arc of lightning surged upwards, blasting straight into the portal. Every Chitauri that emerged was instantly struck, their metallic forms sizzling and sparking under the unrelenting onslaught. Ships, soldiers, and debris alike were engulfed, frying in the torrent of energy. Those in the streets below could only watch, awe-struck, as Thor wielded nature's fury with unmatched might.

From his perch, Thor released wave after wave of lightning, creating a barrier of electricity that seared anything that dared pass through. Harry grinned, casting a quick glance at Steve and Bruce.

"Well," he said, "that's one way to make a statement."

"How's the evacuation progressing?" Harry asked, glancing around the eerily quiet street.

Steve gave a quick nod. "The city's been cleared out. SHIELD and the World Security Council coordinated with the government to ensure Loki's threat wasn't taken lightly. With the portal opening, any remaining stragglers will likely find shelter quickly. The armed forces have cleared all critical areas and are patrolling the perimeter to keep everyone away."

Harry gave a sigh of relief, then added, "My Patronus are scanning through the city to make sure. If they find anyone left behind, they'll either guide them to safety or alert the armed forces for a rescue."

Bruce, who'd been watching the flickering silver forms dart off, raised an eyebrow. "So those... silver animals—those were yours?"

Harry nodded. "They're enchanted to find anyone who still needs help. It's like a beacon that won't rest until everyone is safe."

Steve nodded approvingly.

In the sky above, the Quinjet took another brutal hit, sparks flying as the engines sputtered and a plume of smoke trailed behind it. Clint struggled with the controls, but it was clear the craft was losing altitude fast.

"Nat, we're going down!" Clint called out, fighting to keep the jet stable.

Natasha braced herself, glancing out the window to see Chitauri fighters swarming around. "We'll have to bail. Ready?"

With a nod, the two leapt from the Quinjet just as it spun out of control, heading toward a crash landing on a deserted street below.

As they fell, a blur of metal shot past them. Rhodey, in his War Machine suit, zoomed in and caught Natasha mid-fall, his arm around her as they glided toward the ground. Tony swept in right after, grabbing Clint and stabilizing him.

"Don't mention it, Legolas" Tony quipped as he released Clint onto a nearby rooftop, giving him a salute.

"Thanks, I owe you one," Clint replied, already steadying his bow and taking aim at a new wave of oncoming enemies.

Rhodey carefully lowered Natasha onto the ground next to Steve, Harry, and Bruce, where the rest of the team had gathered.

Just then, a loud rumbling echoed across the city as the portal pulsed again. More Chitauri soldiers began pouring through in larger numbers, their reinforcements filling the skies and swarming down into the streets.

Rhodey seemed exasperated as his helmet opened. "We've got more and more of them coming in hot. I don't know how long we can hold them off."

Harry took a deep breath, nodding. "Then let's even the odds." With a determined look, he raised his wand, pointing it toward the ground beneath their feet.

The earth rumbled, the vibrations building with a deep, ominous resonance that echoed through the city streets. Cracks began to form, spiderwebbing outward in all directions as the pavement splintered and shifted. Everyone glanced around, bracing themselves, as the broken ground slowly began to shift and rise. From the fissures, forms started to take shape—massive, towering figures carved from stone, and concrete.

With a commanding flourish of his wand, Harry directed the raw magic flowing through him. The ground lifted in blocks and chunks, assembling itself into a legion of towering knights, each over ten feet tall, with visored helmets and armor fashioned from chunks of the city itself. Their eyes gleamed with a cold, greenish light, with array of weaponry—colossal spears, jagged clubs, and swords that gleamed like burnished steel.

One by one, a thousand golems took their places, lining up in rows and columns, a silent but formidable army.

The team stared in awe, their faces a mixture of surprise and admiration.

"Whoa," Rhodey breathed, unable to look away from the knights as they stood sentinel around them, their heads all turning to Harry in synchrony, awaiting his command.

Harry smiled. "This city is ours to protect and we're not going down without a fight."

Steve, inspired by Harry's army relayed further instructions. "Everyone, listen up! Loki's scepter is the key to shutting this down. We close that portal, we stop this invasion. If anyone spots Loki, call it out. Our priority is to secure the scepter, and that portal goes down with it."

The team nodded in understanding, renewed determination in their eyes as they took in the massive reinforcements now at their side.

A terrible, guttural scream tore through the sky as the portal pulsed with new life. Out of its depths emerged a colossal, serpentine creature—an armored leviathan, plated with gleaming metal scales that caught the light in flashes of steel and fire. Its body twisted and undulated, massive fin-like blades cutting through the air as it glided forward, surveying the city.

As it descended, rows of Chitauri soldiers began rappelling down from its sides, swarming out of the armored creature like locusts. They leaped to the sides of buildings, skittering down glass and concrete.

Harry's eyes narrowed, his expression hardened. Raising his wand high, he took a deep breath, drawing from every ounce of magical power at his disposal. He could feel the same urgency he'd felt at Hogwarts years ago, a call to protect this place, this home, from forces intent on tearing it apart. In a voice that resonated through the streets, he called out:

"Piertotum Locomotor!"

A wave of raw energy surged from the elder wand, washing over each of the massive stone golems like a breath of life. Their eyes blazed with a cold, fierce light, and in unison, they began to move, shaking off the dust and fragments of the city's debris.

As the first of the Chitauri hit the ground, the golems were ready. Stone swords swung in sweeping arcs, stone fists collided with alien armor, sending Chitauri soldiers flying back in a storm of shattered metal and sparks. The street transformed into a battlefield, filled with the clang of enchanted stone against alien armor.

Rhodey hovered above, taking in the scene, a grin of genuine surprise and admiration on his face. "Alright, that's impressive," he commented over the comms before he swooped down to join the fight, his repulsors blazing as he took aim at the Chitauri raining down from the leviathan.

Tony rocketed toward the Leviathan, unleashing a stream of lead across its armored hide, trying to draw its attention. The beast roared, its serpentine body twisting as it changed course, fixing its gaze on Iron Man. Tony smirked, glancing over his shoulder.

"Banner, suit up! I'm bringing the party to you," he called, banking around a corner and hurtling towards the group, the Leviathan close behind.

Natasha, watching the looming creature, raised an eyebrow. "I don't see how that's a party," she deadpanned.

Iron Man skimmed the road as he led the Leviathan in low, its massive, fin-like blades slicing through the building that lined the streets. Bruce stepped forward, his eyes narrowing as he watched the oncoming beast.

"Doctor Banner, now might be a really good time for you to get angry." Steve suggested.

Banner paused, then threw a small, knowing smile over his shoulder. "That's my secret, Cap." His eyes shifted, turning a vivid green. "I'm always angry."

In an instant, Bruce's body contorted, muscles expanding and skin turning a fierce shade of green as he morphed into the Hulk. He clenched his massive fists and, with a powerful roar, swung a colossal punch straight at the Leviathan's head. The force reverberated through the street as the Leviathan's metal-plated face crumpled on impact, sending it crashing to the ground with a bone-rattling impact.

"Hold on!" Tony shouted, sending a missile straight into the Leviathan's vulnerable side, fragments of Chitauri metal and fiery debris scattering in every direction.

Harry waved his wand swiftly, casting a shimmering barrier around the group that absorbed the shockwave and the rain of debris. As the dust settled, the Chitauri let out a collective, panicked cry at the sight of their fallen Leviathan. The Hulk responded with an earth-shaking roar, sending a clear message to Loki's forces.

The Hulk leapt into action immediately, smashing his way through clusters of Chitauri soldiers clinging to building facades. He swiped entire groups off their perches, slamming some into the concrete and tossing others into the sides of skyscrapers. With a powerful leap, he vaulted into the air, slapping a flying Chitauri craft out of the sky with a thunderous impact, sending it spiraling into an explosion below.

"Can the two of you cover me while I manage the golems?" Harry asked.

"Absolutely," Natasha responded, reloading her weapon, while Steve adjusted his grip on his shield.

Harry settled into a lotus position, hovering a few feet above the ground as an aura of magical energy pulsed outward. Beneath him, the ground began to rumble as the golems, now illuminated with a powerful magical glow, responded to his commands. Each massive stone warrior crackled with tendrils of fiery energy that arced like lightning, casting an otherworldly glow across the battlefield. The golems raised their weapons, sending blazing whips of fire and jets of raw energy shooting towards the Chitauri, incinerating any soldiers within reach.

Wave after wave of Chitauri poured through the portal. Rhodey and Tony were ready, diving through the air and intercepting the crafts with a flurry of missiles and energy blasts, keeping the skies as clear as possible.

The battlefield stretched out before them like a scene from an ancient myth, only intensified by the sheer chaos of the alien invasion. The sky was darkened with Chitauri crafts streaming out of the portal, and the streets were filled with relentless Chitauri soldiers descending from their monstrous Leviathans. But standing amidst the destruction, the Avengers took their positions, each ready to defend the city with everything they had.

Captain America led the charge. He sprinted toward a cluster of Chitauri soldiers, tossing his shield into their midst. It ricocheted off their armored heads, shattering helmets and sending sparks flying before returning to his hand. Just as more soldiers rushed in, he sidestepped and flipped one over his shoulder, slamming his shield down onto another's blaster before it could fire. In a single fluid motion, he ducked under an attack, swung his shield like a battering ram, and swept out an entire line of enemies.

Above him, War Machine and Iron Man circled through the sky, each firing off a barrage of projectiles into the Chitauri crafts. Rhodey unleashed a storm of bullets from his arm-mounted Gatling gun, each one ripping through alien armor. His shots were precise, and in sync with Tony's blasts, the two of them formed a deadly aerial barricade. When a pair of Chitauri soldiers tried to flank him, Rhodey smirked, turned on his heel, and blasted them with his shoulder cannons, scattering them like leaves in a storm.

"Need a hand, Tony?" Rhodey shouted, diving in to intercept a craft on Iron Man's tail.

Tony flipped mid-air, deploying an array of miniature missiles from his shoulder, sending them into the craft. It exploded in a fiery arc, and he gave Rhodey a thumbs-up as he accelerated toward another squadron of approaching enemies.

On the ground, Black Widow was a blur of acrobatics and gunfire. She flipped onto a crumbling car, using it as leverage to launch herself into the air. As she twisted mid-jump, she unloaded her twin pistols, sending perfectly placed shots through the eyes of two advancing Chitauri. Landing with a somersault, she spun and swept the legs out from another soldier, plunging her electrified Widow's Bite into its chest and electrocuting it in a burst of sparks. Another Chitauri soldier lunged at her from behind, but she ducked, rolled, and unleashed a powerful roundhouse kick that sent it flying into a wall.

"Keep moving, Nat!" Clint's voice crackled over the comms.

High above, perched on a skyscraper ledge, Hawkeye nocked an arrow and fired. His arrow streaked through the air, piercing the eye of a Chitauri soldier aiming at Black Widow. Without missing a beat, Clint reached back and launched another arrow, this one arcing toward a Chitauri hovercraft. The projectile exploded on impact, tearing a hole in the craft and sending it spiraling down into a cluster of enemies below. Clint kept his arrows flying, each one hitting with expert accuracy, protecting his teammates from his elevated position and keeping the skies as clear as he could manage.

Thor hovered above the street, his hammer raised high as he summoned lightning from the gathering storm clouds. The energy crackled around him, charging the air, before he unleashed it with a thunderous roar. Bolts of lightning streaked from his hammer, striking down Leviathans and Chitauri soldiers alike in blinding arcs. With a powerful spin of Mjolnir, Thor sent himself hurtling into a squadron of Chitauri on a nearby rooftop, smashing through them like a battering ram. He swung his hammer in a deadly circle, each strike sending a shockwave that obliterated the soldiers around him.

"Not bad, big guy!" shouted Clint from his vantage point, as he fired off another explosive arrow.

Hulk was a force of nature, a green whirlwind of raw power. He leapt from building to building, crashing into enemy formations and smashing Chitauri soldiers with every movement. He ripped a metal beam from a fallen structure and swung it like a baseball bat, sending dozens of soldiers flying with each powerful swipe. A Chitauri craft descended, attempting to fire at him, but Hulk leapt into the air, grabbed its tail, and slammed it into the ground, creating a crater with the force of the impact. With a bellowing roar, he pounded his fists into the ground, sending shockwaves that rippled outward, shattering the Chitauri formations around him.

Amidst the clash, Harry's golems marched forward in formation, each towering ten feet tall and radiating with magical energy. Harry, still in deep concentration, directed his army with his will. The golems surged forward, their enchanted swords and clubs slashing through Chitauri ranks. Fiery tendrils arced from their hands, burning through enemy soldiers, while a few wielded shields that blocked incoming blasts from the Chitauri crafts. The golems moved like a coordinated battalion, forming defensive lines around the Avengers, crushing any enemies that slipped through the Avengers' defenses.

Natasha and Steve took cover behind a line of golems, each taking shots and striking down Chitauri as they pushed forward. When a craft descended, attempting to dive-bomb them, Natasha tossed a grenade at the pilot, causing the entire vessel to detonate before it could reach them.

A Leviathan descended toward the battlefield, its shadow casting over the streets as more Chitauri rappelled down from its sides. The Avengers looked up, and in unison, sprang into action. Thor flew up, his hammer charged with electricity, and struck the Leviathan's underbelly, causing a ripple of energy to course through its metal armor. Tony and Rhodey joined in, blasting at its sides and wings, causing cracks in its plating. Hulk leapt onto its back, grabbing hold of its armor, and began tearing chunks of metal away, ripping its flesh and hurling pieces of it down into the streets.

Steve rallied the golems below, directing them to attack the incoming Chitauri that were now descending on all sides. With another gesture from Harry, the golems raised their weapons and charged forward, spearing the soldiers and tearing them apart in unison.

As the Leviathan began to weaken, Thor let out a war cry and swung Mjolnir in a powerful arc, sending a final, devastating bolt of lightning through its core. The creature shuddered, its armor split apart, and it crashed down onto a group of Chitauri below, obliterating them in a fiery explosion.

The Avengers regrouped as the dust settled, each of them breathing hard but looking to the sky, where more Chitauri soldiers and crafts were pouring through the portal. Together, they braced for the next wave, determination in their eyes and unbreakable resolve in their stance.

As Barton scanned the horizon from his high vantage point, he caught sight of Loki. Perched in an ornate chariot that hovered ominously over the city, Loki reclined with all the casual arrogance of a ruler surveying his new kingdom. The spectacle was galling—Loki looked utterly unconcerned, as if he hadn't a care in the world.

"I see him," Barton muttered into the comm, drawing his bow and sighting down the arrow's shaft.

Carefully, he pulled back, feeling the familiar tension in his shoulder as he took aim. With a deep breath, he let the arrow fly. The gleaming missile cut through the air, deadly and silent.

Loki's reflexes were swift. He raised his hand and caught the arrow mere inches from his face, his expression slipping from smug satisfaction to mild surprise. His lips curved into a smirk as he glanced back toward Barton, his eyes brimming with contempt.

Then the arrow exploded.

The force of the blast hurled Loki backward, sending him crashing through the sky before he slammed onto the platform at the top of Stark Tower. The chariot spun off course, spiraling downward, while Loki lay momentarily stunned, sprawled across the Stark logo embedded in the platform's floor.

"Loki's on Stark Tower," Barton reported into the comm, a faint note of satisfaction in his voice. "He's not looking so smug now."

"Copy that, on my way" Natasha replied to the comms and broke Harry's concentration. "Loki is in Stark Tower." She told him and without asking any further questions, Harry grabbed hold of Natasha and apparated to the penthouse.

Harry and Natasha appeared with a quiet popin the penthouse of Stark Tower, arriving just in time to see the Hulk leap up and crash through the shattered windows, his massive form bearing down on Loki.

Loki barely had a moment to catch his breath before Hulk closed the distance, roaring with fury. The god staggered to his feet, indignation blazing in his eyes as he held up a hand, desperate to reclaim a sliver of control.

"ENOUGH!" Loki bellowed, voice reverberating through the room. "You are, all of you, beneath me! I am a god, you dull creature, and I will not be bullied by—"

Before he could finish, Hulk seized him by the legs. In a blur of green fury, he swung Loki like a ragdoll, slamming him repeatedly into the marble floor. The impact sent tremors through the room with every resounding crash, each hit leaving the so-called god looking less and less immortal.

Finally, with a last, disdainful toss, Hulk flung Loki across the penthouse. The trickster god landed with a groan, sprawled out in a pile of broken glass and rubble, utterly defeated.

"Puny god," Hulk muttered, turning away.

Harry and Natasha, who had watched the entire scene, couldn't suppress their reactions. Natasha pressed a hand over her mouth, eyes shining with barely contained laughter, while Harry's shoulders shook as he fought to keep his composure.

Natasha nudged Harry, smirking. "Come on, don't get distracted by the show. We've got a scepter to find." She snickered, casting one last amused glance at Loki, who was groaning in a dazed heap on the floor.

Harry nodded, grinning as he followed her lead. But he couldn't resist glancing back at the still-whimpering god, a smirk lingering on his face. "Honestly, can't say he didn't have it coming."

Harry and Natasha searched the penthouse, and within moments, Harry spotted the scepter where it had fallen. He scooped it up carefully, "Got it," he said, meeting Natasha's gaze.

"Good," she replied, her expression determined. She reached for her comms. "Barton, we've got the scepter. Heading up to close the portal."

"Dr. Selvig!" Harry called, holding out a steadying hand as the physicist straightened up from where he was hiding in Tony's appartment. "Can you tell us how to shut it down?"

Selvig nodded, his face brightening. "Yes, yes—I can. I built in a failsafe, but it needs to be activated at the source. If we position the scepter correctly, it should disrupt the energy feed and trigger the shutdown sequence."

Together, they apparated to the roof, materializing on the windy edge of the Tower. The sky above was still split open, teeming with endless waves of Chitauri pouring through.

Natasha moved to help set up the device according to Selvig's directions, securing the scepter in place. Selvig provided careful instructions, pointing out which connections needed to be realigned and how to anchor the scepter properly to initiate the sequence.

Harry glanced upward, his eyes narrowing as he spotted another wave of Leviathans twisting and swimming through the portal. Raising the Elder Wand, he held it just before his mouth, cupping his left hand in front of it. He whispered an incantation under his breath, a spell as old as the legends, and conjured a small flame within his palm. Its warmth pulsed as though alive, glowing with a fierce intensity, like a heart of molten magic.

Harry took a breath, then blew softly on the flame. With each whisper of air, it expanded and grew, swirling outward. The fire stretched, coiling and twisting in midair, transforming into the shape of a magnificent phoenix. Its wings, vast and blazing, beat with a fury that made the air tremble.

The phoenix took flight, rising high above Stark Tower in a streak of fiery orange and gold, leaving a trail of embers in its wake. It soared toward the Leviathans, which paused, as though aware of the deadly force now headed straight for them. The creature dove, a blazing comet of magical flame, and in a matter of seconds, it crashed into the first Leviathan, engulfing it in a blinding inferno.

The armored beast thrashed, its entire form illuminated from within as the fiendfyre tore through it, ignoring its protective plating, searing through its metal hide and into its very core. It roared as its body turned to ash, the phoenix not slowing for a moment as it propelled itself to the next, the fire intensifying with every beat of its wings. It met each Leviathan head-on, each one dissolving in the tidal wave of burning magic, their scorched remnants scattering like falling stars.

Below, the Avengers looked on, a mix of awe and astonishment on their faces as they watched the creature blaze through the Chitauri forces.

Natasha, beside him, couldn't tear her gaze away. "You didn't mention you could summon a literal phoenix made of fire," she said, her voice filled with wonder.

Harry didn't reply, too focused as he guided the burning bird with his wand, his arm outstretched. With one last triumphant dive, the phoenix burst through the final Leviathan, shattering it into a cascade of burning fragments. It spiraled upward, unfurling its wings one last time in a blaze of brilliance, before dissipating into the air, leaving only the scent of smoldering ash and the fading glow of embers.

The crackle of Fury's voice broke through the comms, his tone urgent. "Can anyone hear me? There's a nuke headed toward you."

The team tensed, exchanging wary glances. Before anyone could react, Natasha's voice cut through. "I can close the portal. We're almost ready."

But then Tony's voice came over the line, fast and determined. "Wait! Hold on. Don't close the portal. I've got an idea."

He rocketed upward, his boosters blazing as he intercepted the missile, pulling up alongside it as it hurtled toward the city. He braced himself, grabbing onto it with a grip so tight his suit groaned under the force. The city flashed below as he veered the missile sharply, narrowly avoiding the glass of Stark Tower, and aimed it skyward, pushing with everything he had.

The team on the ground watched, their hearts in their throats, as Tony ascended, climbing higher and higher, straining under the missile's relentless forward thrust. The missile creaked and shuddered as he guided it closer to the portal, the edges of the gateway swirling ominously above them, spilling more Chitauri into the fray.

As he neared the portal, Harry reached out over the comm, his voice taut with urgency. "Tony—give me the signal when you're clear, and I'll let Nat know when to close it."

"Got it," Tony replied, the strain evident in his voice as he forced the missile up through the portal, disappearing into the dark abyss beyond.

Inside, the eerie vastness of space stretched before him, Chitauri ships swarming toward him, unaware of the payload he carried. Tony released the missile, watching as it arced toward the Chitauri mothership, locked on target. He held his breath as it struck the ship, detonating in a massive explosion that rippled outward, tearing through every Chitauri craft within range. His suit's power flickered, every light dimming as the explosion consumed his vision. His HUD darkened, his systems shutting down, and he felt the cold, weightless drift as he began to fall back toward Earth, his eyes slipping shut.

Below, on the ground, the Chitauri forces faltered, every warrior collapsing, their ships plummeting from the sky as the connection to their mothership was severed. Dust and debris billowed across the city as the monstrous Leviathans crashed into the buildings, the final echoes of the Chitauri's defeat reverberating through the now-silent streets.

Harry's gaze shot skyward, his heart racing as he saw Tony's form spiraling toward the ground. He turned sharply toward Natasha. "Now!" he called, his voice firm but carrying an edge of desperation.

Natasha nodded, plunging Loki's scepter into the device's heart. The beam stopped, its light flickering as the portal above began to collapse inward, folding into itself as if pulled by an invisible force. The swirling light vanished, leaving only the vast blue of the sky behind it.

As the team looked up, holding their breath, a small, dark figure began to fall faster, breaking through the last wisps of the closing portal. Tony tumbled downward, lifeless and helpless, hurtling toward the city below.

"He's not slowing down," Natasha murmured, her eyes wide with worry.

Harry raised his wand, ready to cast Arresto Momentumwhen a green blur leapt into view. Hulk jumped high into the air, snatching Tony out of freefall in a move that sent him sliding down the side of a building. Hulk finally crashed to the ground below, creating a crater in the pavement as he landed in front of Thor and Steve. With Tony held securely in his massive arms, Hulk gently laid him down as the others gathered around.

Harry grabbed hold of Natasha, and with a quick spin, they apparated beside the others. Moments later, Clint and Rhodey also joined them, landing nearby as they all anxiously watched Tony.

Thor knelt down, pulling off Tony's faceplate, his brow furrowed in concern as Steve leaned in to check for a heartbeat. The arc reactor on Tony's chest was dark, and the silence stretched, each second filled with mounting tension. Finally, Hulk let out a deep, guttural roar. The shockwave of sound seemed to jolt Tony back to life as he gasped, eyes snapping open in bewilderment.

"What the hell? What just happened?" Tony sputtered, looking around at the relieved and amused faces of his teammates. "Please tell me nobody kissed me."

Steve grinned, shaking his head. "We won."

Tony, still dazed, managed a crooked smile. "Alright. Hey. Good job, guys. Let's just... not come in tomorrow. Let's take a day. You ever tried shawarma?" He paused, looking thoughtful. "There's a shawarma joint about two blocks from here. I don't know what it is, but I wanna try it."

Thor clapped a hand on Tony's shoulder, a rare smile tugging at his lips. "We're not finished yet."

"Then shawarma after?" Tony suggested, hopeful, as he looked around the circle.

The Avengers exchanged glances, and one by one, laughter broke out among them. Their exhaustion, the adrenaline, and the sheer relief of having made it through brought out an unguarded, shared moment—a bond that felt stronger than the battle itself.

As they looked out over the city, battered yet safe, there was a quiet sense of victory in the air.

Author's Note:

MacG was such a badass when she cast Piertotum Locomotor. I thought about casting the Grindelwald spell, but I found Piertotum Locomotor to be more apt for this fight. As I said in the previous chapter, I wanted to keep the plot very light here so that we could highlight the fighting. I had tons of fun writing this. And I feel like this chapter is my love letter to all of you, who have been waiting to see Harry fight. I hope I did it justice. I would love to hear your thoughts about the chapter.
