Chapter 3 - Ch 3: First Crisis

The ship was packed with some spare parts for emergency repairs, but nothing major could fit in its storage compartments, as they were being used for other essential stuff. As a result, each person was sent out, and the space expedition was given thorough training to ensure survival.

Medical advancement had made human life infinitely long, and humans could, through certain procedures, live as long as they wanted.

It was an expensive process, so not everyone could afford it. But Ren and the other participants had been given the complete treatment because the station needed them to survive for as long as possible.

He had trained for about 20 years and mastered what he needed to, and now, it was finally time for him to use his skills.

"System, open the damage report and the repair map."

The light on the screen flashed blue before it opened the ship's repair plan. Ren carefully picked out the parts that he needed from the compartment and carefully unsealed them. The air-tight wrapping was then preserved to be decomposed later and reused again.

Earth had already suffered extensively from human ignorance and waste. But their new planet should not become the same.

Once the most urgent repairs were taken care of, it was time to look into building a steady supply of energy for the ship. The most Ren was able to charge it up to was 20%, and for basic survival, that was enough.

But for more advanced planning and checking of this world's environment, a lot more energy would be needed.

Also, feeding the engine unprocessed material was fine for emergencies, but it was not good for its long-term health. So that was also something Ren needed to take care of.

Thankfully, it was all something the ship's AI would take care of. Ren just needed to provide it with the labor it needed.

"Should I check a few more records…"

Ren spoke out aloud, only for the ship to shake all of a sudden.

It confused him a little, especially since the barrier around the ship was supposed to protect it from all dangers.

"Tsk, did something pass the barrier of the ship?"

The sensors had not picked up anything, and even now, they were not picking up anything. So Ren decided to head out and check what was happening.

The shaking was so bad that Ren had to drag his feet and use the guides around the ship's walls to pull himself along.

"I never expected the zero-gravity rails would come in handy like this. At least my suit is not weighing me down."

Ren made his way to the window and finally looked outside. But it was all dark. There was nothing visible outside, and not a single ray of light shone on top of him.

"System, scan the situation."

Ren commanded, and the system beeped at his command.

[Scanning surroundings…]

"Goddamn it-! Are the signals being blocked? But by what?"

Ren asked as he waited for the shaking to stop. Finally, it started to slow down, and he took that chance to change into his suit and make his way outside.

He had just finished wearing his body suit when he suddenly felt a presence looking at him. He looked outside his window, only to see a white, eye-like thing staring back at him.

In that pitch-black darkness, that single spot of white was the only thing Ren could see, and it felt unsettling. Even the darkness and emptiness of space did not make him feel like this.

"Just what is that…?"

Ren questioned, feeling equally fascinated and horrified by the current situation. His feet moved without his consent, and he opened the ship's door to walk outside.

The white spot shifted and looked at him with curiosity. He could feel that thing's curiosity as the pressure on the shield increased in strength. But thankfully, the shield held on, and Ren walked toward its edge.

He was about to reach the white spot when that spot and the darkness around him were suddenly yanked away in an instant.

The sudden bright light that filled the space around him made Ren close his eyes, and his suit automatically adjusted its settings to match the current brightness.

By the time Ren looked around, that thing surrounding his ship's shield looked like a small black dot in the sky. He was not sure whether it was because of the distance or something else, but the creature no longer looked dangerous.

Ren took a deep breath, and he calmed his fast-beating heart down after that close call. His legs threatened to give up, and Ren let out a startled laugh as he fell back.

"I-I am alive. Oh god-! What was that?"

Ren was suddenly reminded that this new world he had found was not a paradise where he was safe all the time. He needed to strengthen himself as much as he could if he wanted to survive and return to human civilization.

For now, he pulled himself up on his shaky legs and made his way back inside the ship. Making sure it was always powered up was the most important thing now. Everything else could wait…

"I need to make a refining unit for that ore… and a way to automatically transport it here. I think I have the material for that stuff, but realistically, I would only be able to make one…"

One was all Ren needed for now. As long as he had a steady supply of energy, he would be able to use the system's scanner to pick up more material suited for building up technology.

For now, it was finally time to get the helper robots to come out and help him.

The storage unit had a few whose primary function was to build materials based on specific blueprints. It was time for these small units to start working.

But as soon as they started, problems began to arise one after another…

"Darn it-! Why is this happening to me?"
