Amara pulled out her phone.
"I knew you wouldn't believe me," she said quietly.
Then she pressed play.
Daniel's voice filled the room.
Clear.
Cold.
"We have to get everything in my name first."
My heart stopped.
Then Nora spoke.
"Yes. Once she signs the business transfer, we're done."
My hands began shaking.
Business transfer?
Daniel continued.
"She trusts me. She'll sign anything."
My stomach twisted.
Because he was right.
I trusted him completely.
The recording ended.
The room was silent.
I looked at Amara.
"Why help me now?"
Her voice broke.
"Because I didn't realize how far they were willing to go."
Fear crept into my chest.
"How far?"
Amara hesitated.
Then whispered the words that shattered me.
"I think they're planning to ruin you completely… and disappear."
