Daniel was at a loss on how to win back Audrey's love. He clutched his phone, a furrow creasing his brow. Each unanswered message from Audrey felt like another missed call. He had apologised, poured his heart out... yet her silence was deafening. Was it not enough? He felt that she had been avoiding him, unaware that Audrey had already forgiven him and was simply waiting for the right moment to meet him and express how much she missed him.
He scrolled through their old chats, a bittersweet smile tugging at his lips. Memories of happier times danced in his head, making the present quiet all the more painful. Maybe he should try again? With a trembling hand, he typed a message. Erasing and rewriting each word, the blinking cursor mirrored his own uncertainty.
Finally, feeling sad and desperate for a response, Daniel sent Audrey a WhatsApp message, saying, 'I love you... Are you there?'
Time crawled by. Every notification on his phone sent a jolt through him, only to fizzle into disappointment when it wasn't Audrey. Sleep eluded him. Wanting an explanation for Audrey's silence, Daniel decided to post a status on his WhatsApp. So, unable to bear the silence any longer, Daniel impulsively reached for his phone. A sliver of hope, fragile as a spider's thread, flickered within him. He opened his WhatsApp status and typed, his gaze darting around the room as if afraid of being judged. 'If you send a heartfelt message to someone you love,' he wrote, his fingers hovering over the keys, 'and they read it but refuse to reply or share their feelings...' Shame burned in his cheeks, but the need for an answer was stronger. '...what does it mean?' he finished, hitting post with a silent plea.
Daniel didn't expect anyone to comment on his post, just a flicker of recognition from Audrey, a sign she wasn't ignoring him completely. But as the minutes bled into hours, his fragile hope began to crumble. He had simply hoped that Audrey would read it and forgive him. However, to his surprise, Celine responded.
'It either means you've done something terribly wrong, or she doesn't love you,' Celine commented.
Reading Celine's response, Daniel made a pained expression, as if on the verge of tears. 'Celine, I really want to talk to her and explain things.'
Celine replied, 'You have already explained yourself, Audrey told me.'
'But I sent her an 'I love you' message, and she didn't reply,' Daniel expressed his frustration.
'Maybe she loves someone better... someone best,' Celine emphasised each word.
Daniel felt like crying, but no tears came. He responded, 'I refuse to believe that Audrey would suddenly replace me. I can accept her silent treatment, but I won't accept her leaving me for another man.'
Celine stopped replying, realising that it was Audrey and Daniel's business, not hers. She was confident that Audrey couldn't live without Daniel and that their lover's quarrel would soon come to an end.
