Chapter 13 - An Unexpected Visitor

The apartment was quiet.

Soft water sounds faded as the bathroom door slowly opened.

Warm steam drifted out first.

Then Lin Yue stepped into the living room wearing loose night clothes and drying her hair with a towel. Her long hair was still slightly wet, and her cheeks had turned pink from the hot shower.

Mo Chen sat calmly on the sofa as if he had not moved at all.

His eyes lifted the moment she appeared.

Lin Yue noticed immediately.

"Why are you staring like that?"

Mo Chen replied calmly, "I was confirming something."

She raised an eyebrow. "Confirming what?"

"That you are still alive."

Lin Yue froze for a second… then rolled her eyes.

"Wow. What a romantic thing to say."

She threw the towel aside and dropped onto the sofa beside him with a tired sigh.

"Today was crazy."

She grabbed the remote and turned on the television. Bright light filled the quiet living room as random programs flashed across the screen.

A comedy show appeared.

Lin Yue leaned back comfortably, hugging a pillow.

Mo Chen watched the television with interest.

He still hadn't fully adapted to modern human life.

After a moment, he glanced sideways at her again.

"You were afraid."

Lin Yue didn't look at him.

"Yes."

Mo Chen continued calmly.

"You saw me kill two vampires."

"Yes."

"You saw my power."

"Yes."

"And yet—"

Before he could finish—

Lin Yue suddenly reached out and covered his mouth with her hand.

"Stop."

Mo Chen blinked.

Her palm pressed firmly over his lips.

"I swear," she groaned, "if you ask that question one more time, I will lose my mind."

Mo Chen looked slightly amused.

Lin Yue leaned closer and spoke slowly.

"I told you already."

"Yes, I was scared."

"Anyone would be scared seeing someone turn into a demon king and destroy vampires like that."

She removed her hand.

"But that doesn't mean I'm scared of you."

Mo Chen tilted his head slightly.

"Why?"

Lin Yue shrugged.

"Because you didn't hurt me."

She pointed at him casually.

"You protected me."

For a moment, Mo Chen said nothing.

Lin Yue suddenly grinned.

"And besides…"

She leaned closer and squinted at him.

"You're too handsome to be scary."

Mo Chen stared at her.

Lin Yue burst into laughter.

"I'm joking!"

She leaned back and returned her attention to the TV.

The comedy show was playing loudly now.

Actors on the screen exaggerated their expressions while the audience laughed.

Lin Yue laughed along with them.

Mo Chen watched quietly.

After a few minutes he spoke again.

"You laugh very easily."

Lin Yue glanced at him.

"Life is hard."

She shrugged.

"So I laugh when I can."

She pointed at the screen.

"You should try it."

Mo Chen stared at the television again.

Then unexpectedly—

A faint smile appeared on his face.

Lin Yue froze.

"…Wait."

She leaned forward.

"Did you just smile?"

Mo Chen immediately returned to his usual calm expression.

"No."

"You did!"

"No."

"You definitely did!"

Lin Yue pointed accusingly at him.

"The Night Sovereign smiled!"

Mo Chen stood up.

"I am going to sleep."

Lin Yue laughed loudly.

"Run away, demon king!"

Mo Chen ignored her and walked toward the bedroom.

But before entering, he paused.

His voice was quiet.

"Lin Yue."

She looked up.

"Yes?"

Mo Chen didn't turn around.

"…Thank you."

Lin Yue blinked in surprise.

Then she smiled softly.

"Go sleep, vampire killer."

Mo Chen disappeared into the bedroom.

Lin Yue watched TV for another hour before finally turning it off.

The apartment slowly fell silent.

Outside, the city lights shimmered peacefully.

For the first time since the rooftop battle…

The night felt calm.

The next morning arrived quickly.

Sunlight poured into Jiangnan University.

Students filled the campus pathways, chatting loudly while rushing between classes.

Inside the historical research department classroom, Lin Yue sat in her usual seat beside her friends.

Her friend Zhao Lian leaned toward her immediately.

"You look tired."

Lin Yue yawned.

"I barely slept."

Another friend laughed.

"Did you stay up watching dramas again?"

Lin Yue scratched her head.

"…Something like that."

Her friends continued talking about classes and assignments while the professor prepared notes on the board.

Lin Yue rested her chin on her hand and stared lazily toward the window.

For a moment, everything felt normal again.

Just college life.

Nothing supernatural.

Nothing dangerous.

Just lectures and homework.

Then—

The classroom door opened.

A tall figure stepped inside.

The entire class slowly turned to look.

The professor spoke politely.

"Everyone, we have a new transfer student joining our department today."

Lin Yue wasn't paying attention at first.

She lazily glanced toward the door.

Then—

Her eyes widened.

Her entire body froze.

Standing at the entrance of the classroom…

Wearing casual modern clothes…

Was Mo Chen.

Calm.

Handsome.

Completely out of place.

The professor smiled.

"Please introduce yourself."

Mo Chen's eyes slowly moved across the classroom.

Then they landed directly on Lin Yue.

His lips curved slightly.

"My name is Mo Chen."

The room fell silent.

Lin Yue suddenly stood up from her seat.

Her chair scraped loudly across the floor.

Her friends looked at her in confusion.

"Lin Yue? What's wrong?"

She didn't answer.

Her eyes remained locked on the man standing at the classroom door.

Mo Chen looked completely calm.

As if this was perfectly normal.

Lin Yue's mind exploded with one single thought.

Why is he here?!

Mo Chen slowly walked into the classroom.

His gaze never left her.

And Lin Yue realized something terrifying.

The Night Sovereign…

Had just enrolled in her college.
