Lucian's POV
A jagged laugh tore out of me the instant the words left her mouth. "My child, Emily." I kept laughing, the sound raw and humorless in the sterile hospital room.
"This isn't funny, Lucian." Her voice cracked. "Why would I lie? You're the only man I ever let touch me. So why wouldn't the child be yours?"
The laughter died in my throat. I frowned, jaw tightening.
"Don't talk nonsense," I snapped, irritation sharpening every word. "That child can never be mine. Do yourself a favor and go tell Aiden your news. And if you ever speak of that baby as mine again…" I leaned closer, letting the threat settle between us. "Maybe I'll just have to kill you alongside it."
Fear flashed across her face—wide eyes, trembling lips. Exactly what I wanted to see.
"How can you be so cruel?" she whispered, voice breaking. "All I've ever done is love you, and you… You know what? Forget it. What else should I expect from a rogue like you?"
