Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: The Magical Battle (Part Two)

"It's time to finish things," she smiled.

I performed three backflips, creating a greater distance between me and the steam engine.

Water balls] she exclaimed.

Instantly, balls of liquid floated up my palm. I released them at the golem, eager to see its reaction.

And so, a surprising scene appeared before the eyes of all those present.

"!H-How?"

"!!!A-Awesome!"

Simply unbelievable!"

I ignored the words of the maids and servants as I looked in the direction of my mother.

She looked stunned, and certainly did not expect something like this to be the end of my battle with the golem.

Alphonse's teachers also had a similar look on his face.

Their reactions... made it all worthwhile.

Some distance away, where the golem had been, was a great mass of ice, a frozen glacier that stretched to the width of the fog that covered it, while also spreading like roots.

The golem was covered in ice and was completely immobile. Although I hadn't destroyed it, there was no way it could attack anymore. It was easily my victory.

"Heh, just as expected... all the reactions came together."

"How did you do it?" Alphonse asked me.

The look on his face told me he was still hung up on the golem I had defeated and the strange way I had won. So, as we ate lunch, he finally asked the question.

"I'm curious too, Jared. Aren't you going to tell us?" my mother added, giving me her sweet smile.

"Well, I think I should enlighten them."

"I used the different reactions of the elements to create the final result you saw," I revealed

"You did?" Annabelle repeated, clearly not understanding.

What I said.

"Yes... it's really quite simple."

"The fireball lacks power and impact, so it can't damage the rock golem, but the heat it produces makes the golem hot. By firing several fireballs at it, the golem reached a satisfactory temperature, which allowed me to use the [water ball]." I continued.

They were both amazed by what I did, but they continued to listen in silence.

The water ball turned to steam upon contact with the intensely hot golem, and so it covered the golem with steam. As you know, water is the rock golem's weak point. Steam is water in its gaseous form, so I allowed it to seep into the golem's internal cavities, while also causing it to spread around its perimeter

"Then... using my final spell, Snowball, I caused the ice to explode upon contact with the steam, sending a freezing effect to the water already present around the area. By freezing the moisture, it transformed into a large icy structure, and the water that had seeped into the Golem also froze, turning it completely to ice inside and out as well."

Most people don't know this, but hot water.

It turns cold faster than lukewarm water.

Using this logic, and speeding up the process with magic, the hot steam from the waterball effect with the burning rock golem was frozen at a rapid rate.

"And that's how I won... interesting, isn't it?" I smiled, taking a bite of the salad I had left unattended.

Annabelle looked at Alphonse as they exchanged surprised expressions. The two of them were incredibly astonished by my resourcefulness and unconventional methods.

They had initially thought I was being haphazard in my attacks, perhaps because it was my first fight. In fact, it would have been more understandable and natural if that were the case.

It would have been natural for someone without combat experience to panic when faced with the unexpected and make mistakes. However, I did the exact opposite; I analyzed the situation correctly and compensated correctly.

But why? Why take such a devious approach to defeating the golem?" Alphonse asked suddenly

I could have used a much simpler approach, but I chose the complicated one. Well, the answer was.

simple.

I just wanted to try. It was fun to see that reaction, didn't you think? Instead of being straightforward with magic, it's also good not to be restricted by rigid spells. It's fun to create your own reaction by trying different methods," I said.

This amazed my mother and my teacher. They couldn't believe I would be so open and broad in my understanding of magic.

And so, from that moment on, they both decided not to take the usual approach with me.

My teacher stopped using the basics to teach me and became more complex. As for my mother, she gave me full access to our home library, which gave me complete access to all the materials I needed to learn and grow.

Just as I had planned. I had impressed the adults, and they were now under the spell of a different kind of magic. My genius spell.

Excellent! Now my real magical training begins!
