Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Diagon Alley

"Before meeting the home tutor, you still need a wand of your own."

This was the original instruction Dumbledore left before departing. That old man always came and went without a trace. Kate even reasonably suspected that all wizards used this sense of mystery to exert pressure on young wizards or Muggles.

Because she had taken the magic-suppressing potion, she could stay at home for one more night and would head to the legendary Diagon Alley with Rand tomorrow to purchase a wand.

having not eaten all day, Kate, who usually had a small appetite, broke her routine and added an extra portion of meat. Eating the authentic yet tasteless British cuisine, Kate's expression was still somewhat listless.

Even now, the System had not given a notification. This meant the quest would likely only be considered complete once she met that legendary home tutor.

She didn't know who Rand would find. However, she could guess who Dumbledore would find using the process of elimination. To accommodate her introverted (slacker) personality, Old Man Dumbledore certainly wouldn't find a wizard with a violent temper.

Among the remaining possible candidates, most were Hogwarts teachers, who couldn't possibly be her home tutor and watch over her every day. Someone with a good personality, able to get along with children, possessing high magic power, and idle enough to guard her daily...

Kate thought it over and could only think of two people who met these conditions. She sighed.

"Miss," Rand stood by her side with a straight face, "the steak will get cold if you don't eat it. Do you need me to make something else?"

"No need!" Kate immediately snapped back to reality. Looking at the steak with less than half remaining, she could only resign herself to chewing.

In her past life, she felt Western food was delicious and would occasionally go to restaurants to gorge herself. But in this world, she had been eating the same menu for several years! Although the old butler was good, he really wasn't very skilled in the culinary arts—just like his Potions grades in the past...

Speaking of which, both jobs required controlling heat and timing. In principle, Potions and cooking should be about the same, right? Does that mean Snape is actually a hidden prince of cooking?

If she entered Hogwarts in the future and secretly used a cauldron to cook hotpot in the dormitory, it should be fine, right?

Thinking of this, Kate's eyes brightened slightly. She looked up and asked, "Grandpa, when I go to buy a wand tomorrow, can I buy an extra cauldron?"

Rand tilted his head in slight confusion. Was it because the Young Miss saw the Potions Professor today that she suddenly had the whim to try brewing potions with a cauldron?

He thought about it; the Miss's rare curiosity shouldn't be discouraged by him. He immediately said, "You may, but please only use it when accompanied by myself or your teacher."

"Mm!" Kate smiled sweetly, her exquisite and clean little face shimmering with a radiance that couldn't be ignored.

Are you kidding? If the butler and teacher found out she was using a cauldron to cook hotpot, she would be done for. Besides, a cauldron that had cooked hotpot would probably have a magical funky taste if used to brew potions later. She didn't want to get ganked by Snape in Potions class holding a cauldron like that.

Just like that, in a harmonious atmosphere between grandfather and granddaughter, Kate finally finished the steak, which was much larger than her usual portion. After eating and drinking her fill, the effects of the magic-suppressing potion in her body began to gradually fade.

Kate, who had already slept for most of the day, wasn't sleepy, but her body still couldn't withstand such massive magic power. She could only replace activity time with long periods of sleep. Not long after dinner, she yawned and went upstairs to sleep.

Downstairs, Rand had just finished cleaning the tableware with a Scouring Charm. He looked worriedly at Kate, who was already swaying as she walked. He didn't know how long this period would last. He only hoped that this child, whom he had looked after since she was little, could live like her peers.

...

Early the next morning, Kate hadn't even woken up before she was called up by the anxious old butler.

"Miss, please hold my hand tightly." Rand led her to the fireplace that had never been used at home, warning her with a solemn expression, "Remember, do not let go."

Kate, who was still combing her knotted silver shoulder-length hair with one hand, glanced at her own fireplace. She always knew that the small wooden box placed on her fireplace contained Floo Powder, a portable travel artifact.

The user only needed to stand in front of the fireplace, grab a handful of Floo Powder, gently say the name of the destination, and then throw it down. This way, one could shuttle between any fireplaces connected to the "Floo Network."

This was common knowledge in the magical world. The old butler had been teaching her this knowledge over the years, and to make the old butler happy, she had casually learned quite a bit. But before the System released the main quest, she had never really thought she would use these things one day.

As a transmigrator who had come to the Harry Potter world, how could she not learn some magic? With this thought existing, although Kate was initially unwilling to enter the magical world, she found it wasn't unacceptable when she truly faced it.

"I'm ready, Grandpa."

She stood on tiptoe, pinched a pinch of sparkling powder from the flower pot, and threw it into the fireplace together with Rand.

"Diagon Alley!"

The two called out the destination in unison and stepped in at the same time. In the blink of an eye, the scene before them transformed instantly, switching from a warm and clean small home to a cramped and dim pub.

Kate opened her eyes only to find Rand's skeletal hand blocking her face, shielding her from the powder that might irritate her throat. Unlike the motley crew in her impression of the Leaky Cauldron, right now there was only a bald boss wiping glasses in front of the bar.

Surprised that someone had come so early, the boss looked over in astonishment, only to find a neatly dressed pair that looked like a grandfather and granddaughter combination.

"I'm here to take her shopping, please don't mind us," Rand spoke up to block the boss's words before he could open his mouth. Saying so, he pulled Kate through the bar area and arrived at a small courtyard surrounded by walls.

Aside from a trash can and some weeds, there was nothing here. Rand looked at the wall in front of him, smiled, and lowered his head to ask gently, "Miss, do you remember the method to enter Diagon Alley that I told you before?"

"Mm." Arriving at a famous scenic spot of the Harry Potter world for the first time, Kate began to get nervous again.

Start from the brick above the trash can, count three up, then two across, and tap three times...

She watched Rand tap the brick with his wand. The wall before them immediately moved away, and a wide archway appeared, leading to a winding, cobblestone-paved street with no end in sight.

Was this the magical world? Looking at the magical scene before her, Kate swallowed nervously and subconsciously tightened her grip on her fingers.

"Grandpa, let's go in."

"Alright."
