That was the first thing I noticed.

*"Is my bed… this smooth?"* I thought.

She yelled, and I jumped. I blinked at the figure in front of me. Wait… am I still dreaming? This isn't my bed… I should be waking up… am I really stuck in this dream?

The girl hit me.
"Are you? You still think you're dreaming?" she said, eyes welling with tears.

I blinked, trying to process. I still don't understand what's going on. Why did it hurt so much?
"Iris, look at me!" she said, her voice urgent. "This is the Duke's room! I don't know what he'll do—he can kill you, or torture you! Please come to your senses"

"Who is the Duke? Why is there a Duke? Am I… reincarnated? Am I dead?" I panicked.

"I'm… your dear friend," she added, voice trembling.
"This is Duke Cassian Dreyvorn's room!" she sobbed.
Cassian? That name… it sounded familiar.
*"The Crimson Duke… the North Wolf…"* I muttered.
"Yes… so you do remember," she said.
