"Natasha, what happened!"
A slightly tense voice came through the earpiece.
"I'm fine. I can handle it." Natasha pressed her ear, lowering her voice to speak quickly.
Gaze returning to Hermione, Natasha said seriously: "I'm from the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division. You can call me Natasha. I came to find you today mainly to ask about some things."
Even though English had become this body's native language, after hearing such a long string of words, Hermione's brain short-circuited for a second.
Only then did she remember: S.H.I.E.L.D. didn't have an abbreviation yet.
"Uh… what Division?"
Natasha was long used to this. She'd advised Fury many times to change to a more memorable name. But nothing had changed to this day.
"Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division." Natasha patiently repeated.
"What Division?"
"Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division."
"Division what?"
Natasha: "…"
Looking at the little beauty's clear eyes before her, she felt at a loss for words for the first time.
"How about you write it down."
Seeing Natasha's helplessness, Hermione proposed a solution.
"Alright, I'll have a colleague bring paper and pen…"
Before Natasha finished, Hermione interrupted: "No need for that trouble."
Speaking, Hermione raised her wand. Lightly waved it at the coffee cup beside them.
"Vera Verto!"
Next second, under Natasha's disbelieving gaze, the coffee cup twisted and transformed into a sheet of white paper and a fountain pen.
"This is!"
Natasha raised her head. Looked at Hermione in shock.
Her first reaction: she'd been drugged. Hallucinating.
Reached out and grabbed the paper and pen. Rubbed them between her fingertips. After repeated confirmation, Natasha finally determined: everything before her wasn't a hallucination.
It was real!
"You, how did you do that?"
Natasha stared intently at Hermione.
Hermione shrugged: "Simple Transfiguration Charm."
"Wingardium Leviosa!"
The coffee cup before Natasha levitated. Floated outside the table. Then fell to the ground. Shattered into pieces.
"Reparo!"
The shattered cup reassembled itself in an anti-physics manner. Restored. Not a trace of damage visible.
"See!" Hermione put her hands on her hips. Face full of pride.
Witnessing this series of miraculous changes firsthand, Natasha was shocked into numbness.
She'd seen those with superpowers too. Nothing more than fire control, water control, strength enhancement, etc. All within scientific explanation. And all very singular.
But in this short time, Hermione had already displayed at least three different abilities.
Matter alteration. Telekinesis. State reversal.
These scenes absolutely couldn't be explained by science.
Magic! There really was magic!
Still a top agent. Natasha forcibly suppressed her inner shock. Forcibly accepted this fact.
Reassembling her shattered worldview, Natasha said: "Actually, we discovered that a few nights ago, a series of abnormal deaths occurred nearby. Mainly wanted to ask if you know anything about the situation?"
She was prepared for Hermione to deny it.
Didn't expect Hermione to directly nod: "Mm, of course I know. I killed them all!"
Natasha's pupils contracted.
Before she could say anything, Hermione continued: "Strategic whatever Division… forget it, can't remember. I'll just call you S.H.I.E.L.D. You're the Muggle law enforcement department, right? I took down bad guys. Shouldn't there be a reward!"
Completely righteous.
What's with this child… Natasha's expression grew grave.
She probed: "Hermione… you're still so young. Killing people—don't you feel uncomfortable at all?"
"Huh?" Hermione tilted her little head. Face innocent: "But I only killed bad people. Don't books say to punish bad people and reward good people? That's how TV shows it. The protagonists kill evildoers, and no one says they're wrong!"
Huh? Because that's how TV shows it? Natasha's mouth twitched involuntarily.
Really… the simplest possible moral view.
"However…"
Just as she was about to say something, the earpiece transmitted again: "Don't discuss right and wrong with her. Ask directly about wizards!"
Natasha took a deep breath. Showed a smile again: "Can you tell us about yourself? How did such a cute child like you gain these abilities? Sister really wants to know."
Then assumed a studious, knowledge-seeking posture.
Through this series of interactions, she'd basically figured out this child's personality.
"How I gained them…" Hermione looked troubled. "How to explain… after school professors teach, naturally you learn. How else would you gain them?"
She seemed extremely confused by this question.
"Huh?"
Natasha and the person on the other end of the call simultaneously made confused sounds.
School teachers can teach this?
Are you kidding me?
What school is that impressive?
However, next second, both reacted simultaneously.
Wait!
Hermione wasn't talking about schools in their understanding, but specialized magic schools!
The kind that could produce wizards!
Instantly, they realized something more terrifying.
If wizards had schools, there must be many student wizards. And teachers who could teach these students must also be wizards.
Thinking back to Hermione's mention of the "Ministry of Magic," easy to deduce: there were many wizards. And they seemed to have their own social structure!
Having such a group with supernatural powers hidden in society, yet S.H.I.E.L.D. had never noticed—what if…
Thinking this, Natasha's hands trembled.
The person on the other end wasn't much better. Face black as a pot bottom. Emotions unreadable. But slightly trembling lips betrayed inner turmoil.
Seeing Natasha fall silent, Hermione showed a dissatisfied expression.
"Hey, I've answered so many of your questions. My turn to ask one."
"Even professors in class don't ask this many questions."
Natasha snapped back. Barely maintained her smile. "Go ahead."
Hermione propped her chin on her hands. Blinked. Said: "When I eliminated bad guys, I had a Disillusionment Charm active. Logically you shouldn't have been able to see me. Why could you confirm it was me?"
"We never said it was you…"
Hermione looked impatient: "I'm just young, not stupid."
Seeing she couldn't fool her, Natasha had to tell the truth.
"There was an eyewitness at the scene."
"Uncle Erwin?" Hermione shook her head. "Impossible. He's a Muggle. Couldn't see through my Disillusionment Charm."
Natasha nodded: "We know. But there were also surveillance cameras at the scene."
