Prologue: Edrit, The Rune Crafter

In the house found in the outer forest of the kingdom lives a very successful rune crafter who uses rocks to create actionable magic and trades with those who find value in them. His business is simple; he looks for a problem that people within the kingdom face and makes a solution in exchange for money. He is one of the few people who received the power to create runes. No one seemed to consider the creation of runes as a necessity since there was already magic capable of doing the same or better magic than the runes. This crafter's name is Edrit. He was an intelligent man who liked to make inventions that were only possible for a rune crafter.

Edrit was accustomed to traveling into the kingdom with the purpose of trading.

"Hey."

Edrit said.

"I have seen you and the way you do your job. I might have something that will make it easier."

With an intrigued reaction, but disturbed. The shopkeeper looked at Edrit with an expression of indifference.

"No. Kid, I am the seller here. I am not interested."

Edrit continued to try.

"Well, why don't you have a look at what I am trying to sell you?"

"Here, this rune rock will make your voice sound louder when you hold it. I'm sure you can get more attention with something like this."

The shopkeeper looked disappointed; even so, the function intrigued him.

"Sure kid, how much do you want?"

Edrit seemed to expect the result.

"I knew you would like it. I would like fifteen copper coins."

-"alright kid."

Edrit got his coins and got ready to find other clients.

The moment in which he received his procession, he was degraded by others. This was mostly because other professions were considered useful, but Rune Crafting isn't one of them.

People usually show more attention to Magic Spelling professions. That wasn't a wrong way of thinking since those professions are more natural, and those who received them could make spells easily. Spell creation is described as if it only requires basic knowledge about what the spell ultimately is.

The problem with Rune Crafting is that it requires logic and a considerable amount of knowledge about every concept. As this is considered, Rune Crafting seems like just a harder version of magic casting professions. There are possibilities that only runes can conceive, but the people who received it gave up on it because of its difficulty.

Edrit, being the only one who saw the potential of Rune Creation, thought about actually studying the possibilities that Rune Crafting can open. While working on runes, always impressed by the immense difficulty that every rune presented him. Edrit wrote descriptions of multiple books, storing his discoveries.

He became known as "The Rune Crafter". Not only because of his profession, but also because he used all his time to make the runes useful in some way for the people. Even after his achievements, people didn't think that Rune Crafting was as good as spell casting. Edrit wanted to create a big influence on the actual capacities of runes, but even after he became an old man, the number of things that he discovered about runes wasn't enough.

knowing that his time was reaching an end, his most prominent emotion was sadness.

"I know I should have lived in a different way. Now, I have nothing other than my knowledge about runes, and no one wants that. What am I supposed to do now?"

During his last moments of life, Edrit wasn't ready to die. He could only think about the expectations that he had; his life ended while he was still thinking about how much he still had to try in his research. He had so many regrets. He did what he wanted in the time he had. Even so, he didn't want his research to be in vain; he knew that if he had more time, then he would have been able to improve Rune Crafting. He had been taken by death.

But maybe… He followed the light.

There he was, not in a place that could be described as physical. There was nothing, but it wasn't empty. A god-like appearance is shown in front of Edrit. Reacting with surprise, he asked who they were. His question wasn't answered.

The being presented an opportunity to Edrit. They said they had heard his wishes and announced an offer.

"I grant you the opportunity to give your knowledge to someone else, a person who can use it and improve it by their own will."

They said nothing besides it. Edrit was given an opportunity to continue his legacy. He died already, so his decision became obvious in his mind. He answered. Accepting his decision, the being gave farewells.

"Now, you will actually step into the realm of the dead."
