Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: The Death of Spider-Man

In darkness, all was chaos. No sense of front, back, left, or right. The feeling of weightlessness quickly evolved into compression and distortion of spacetime, like riding a roller coaster. Even with spider-sense, he had no idea where he was being thrown.

In an instant, the distorted spacetime power ignored his mental protection and spread to Jordan, as if trying to assimilate him into spacetime matter itself.

He tried to resist but could only maintain basic consciousness before his senses plunged into complete darkness.

Marvel Universe 1610, New York City

Miles Morales from Vision School was currently very distressed.

First, he'd been bitten by a strange spider. Then a series of bizarre things happened.

Overnight, he gained Spider-Man-like powers. Unable to control them, he ruined the hair of the girl he liked. A beautiful relationship seemed to end before it even began. That night, he witnessed Spider-Man being killed by a muscular big big man in the Brooklyn underground, but news said he died from earthquake injuries. He was chased for several blocks by a villain wearing a purple high-tech suit and barely managed to escape.

These chaotic events turned his once normal life into a mess, until he attended Spider-Man's memorial service.

Just when he thought everything was settled, he found another Spider-Man at Spider-Man's grave.

However, this was the middle-aged version with a fuller figure.

Whether he's real or fake, he's now tied up at Uncle Aaron's house.

Time for proper interrogation!

Meanwhile,

Jordan woke in darkness.

As perception gradually opened, surrounding spacetime gaps remained chaotic and disordered. But in the darkness, intricate spider webs emitting white light occasionally flashed by.

Thanks to this, he knew he was moving at high speed.

Trying to move his body, Jordan touched a strong spacetime barrier.

The sensation from his fingertips revealed this seemingly solid barrier was actually as fragile as a bubble. With his current strength, he could break free with just a little force.

As he pondered, sudden realization dawned.

Under starry night sky, a modern city both familiar and unfamiliar came into view.

Familiar because he'd come to know it many ways. Strange because he'd never actually been there before.

His gaze locked onto a goddess statue holding a torch aloft on the coastline. Jordan immediately confirmed it.

This is New York.

And he himself was hurtling toward the ground at extreme speed!

Just before impact, Jordan exerted force with both arms, unleashing terrifying brute strength. The spacetime energy barrier shattered instantly, turning into countless twisted fragments of different colors that dissolved into air.

With telekinetic powers activated, Jordan steadied himself amid a cluster of towering office buildings. The famous Times Square right beneath his feet.

Neon lights flashed. Pedestrians filled streets. A scene of prosperity.

However, news playing uniformly on surrounding LED screens seemed off.

Spider-Man dies from injuries in massive Brooklyn earthquake. His true identity revealed as Peter Parker, 26-year-old graduate student and part-time photographer, a good neighbor of New York City who has left his citizens forever.

Jordan landed on a small building's rooftop. People around were just as surprised and astonished, all taking out phones to confirm the news.

In the blink of an eye, overwhelming grief enveloped the entire city.

"It seems it's true."

Jordan narrowed his eyes, finally confirming which world he'd entered.

This is the Marvel universe.

As is well known, the Marvel universe has nearly infinite multiverses. The vitality of these universes depends on comic sales and writer imagination.

They may undergo many changes. Or be restarted with a snap of fingers.

New York City in the Marvel universe is the center of countless major events. A peaceful city with simple, honest folk culture.

Spider-Man confirmed dead? Certainly bad news.

Jordan wasn't sure how long the "short stay" described in the "Black Box" actually lasted. Seemed he needed to investigate the matter as soon as possible.

As he pondered, a familiar figure in red and blue flashed past in his peripheral vision, stopping on the glass curtain wall of a nearby office building.

Then look at the special message still playing on loop on the big screen.

"What the hell? I'm already dead?" Peter Parker stared blankly at news playing below, his mind jumbled. "Twenty-six years old? Even including the annihilation incident, I'm only Eighteen! And graduate school? Come on, I haven't even started college yet! So... did Mr. Strange's spell go wrong again? God, what on earth happened..."

"That's exactly the question I was going to ask you, Mr. Parker."

Peter Parker startled, hair standing on end under his suit. He did a series of backflips on the glass wall, creating distance of nearly ten meters, before finally seeing the speaker's face.

Hey, how come this guy's so handsome and so tall?

This isn't fair!

He must be at least 1.95 meters tall, right?

That physique, those exaggerated muscles... he's just as tall and strong as Thor from Asgard!

"Wait... how are you flying? My god, you can actually fly? A superpowered person? A hero, or a superpowered villain..."

"Stop! What nonsense are you spouting?" A vein throbbed on Jordan's forehead as he interrupted the rambling spider. "My name is Jordan Evans. I'm a police officer and part-time hero."

"A hero? I mean, you're a hero too?" Peter was stunned. Perhaps spider-sense detected Jordan meant no harm. "I understand. You're not a member of the Avengers, are you? That's why I don't know you."

"What you said... is at least logically correct." Jordan floated before Peter, who'd calmed down slightly. Hands in pockets, he pointed out the current situation directly. "The hero organization I belong to isn't the Avengers, but the Hero Association. And the world we're in now isn't our respective universes."

Similar stinging pain came from the back of his head. Spider-sense between different individuals instinctively sensed information from their own kind.

Peter, unable to process information conveyed in Jordan's words, stared in shock. "This feeling is absolutely right. You... feel the same way as me?"

"Yes, I do possess some spider-like superpowers." Jordan nodded, making a gesture with his right index finger and thumb that Korean men find utterly repulsive. "Just a little bit."

"I see." Peter Parker finally regained composure befitting a superhero, hesitantly removing his mask. "Mr. Jordan, I think we need to have a serious talk."

"Of course." Jordan gestured invitingly, seeing Tom Holland's handsome face hidden under the hood. "I know a suitable place."
