This is the Oracle of the Gods, he said. It will reveal the truth about the soul you judged.
He touched the orb, and it glowed brighter. Suddenly, visions flooded my mind once more.
I saw the soul's life, but this time, I saw the truth. The soul had indeed committed a terrible crime, one that had gone unpunished in life. But I also saw its redemption, its attempts to make amends and find forgiveness.
The visions faded, and I turned to the man. What does this mean? I asked.
The man smiled. It means that your judgment was not entirely wrong, he said. But it was not entirely right either. The soul does not belong in Heaven or Hell. It belongs in a different realm, one of redemption and forgiveness.
I nodded, understanding. And what of you? I asked. Who are you, and why did you show me this?
The man's smile grew wider. I am the Guardian of the Balance, he said. And I have been sent to guide you, God of Death. To help you make fair and just judgments.
