Chapter 5 — The Administrator of Space-Time

On the screen, the mysterious pop-up refreshed every dozen seconds, replacing itself with new lines of text. The "page-turning" speed felt a little slow to Wang Heng — but it also gave him enough time to read and think.

[The reason you died so miserably before your rebirth was actually a space-time bug. It caused a serious error in causality. In other words, you were never supposed to die — at least not at twenty-five. To fix the bug, we had to roll back this segment of the timeline. Your consciousness became a fixed anchor during the rollback and couldn't be erased or altered, so the only option was to let you be reborn.]

[You can consider this compensation. However, to avoid creating new bugs, your actions cannot deviate too far from normal expectations. You may invest in companies destined to rise in seven years — for example, Doule. Whether you invest or not, it will succeed anyway. But you cannot wipe out Doule's founding team. That would cause a massive bug.]

[To summarize: all your actions must remain reasonable. Which means you're already in trouble. Under normal circumstances, if a girl who likes you confesses, the eighteen-year-old you should not reject her. Understand?]

[At present this is only a minor anomaly — not yet a bug. But if it escalates into a bug, I will have to take more serious measures to smooth it out. Simply put: I'll arrange an accident for you. A car crash, perhaps.]

After reading those lines, Wang Heng finally understood his situation.

"I knew it… transmigration and rebirth were never going to be simple…"

He dropped the mouse and asked, "So you mean I have to live exactly like my previous life — and get tangled up with those girls again?"

[Not necessarily. And you don't need to obsess over that. The worldline has a self-correction mechanism. You only need to act like a normal boy who hasn't been reborn.]

"Self-correction mechanism?"

[Yes. It's closely related to your future, but difficult to explain. I'm certain that with your current knowledge and reasoning ability, you wouldn't understand even if I told you — so there's no need to ask further.]

"…Are you mocking my intelligence?"

[Just stating facts. The mysteries of space-time exceed human comprehension. In short, the only advice I can give you is this: keep your current cautious mindset, and be even more cautious — for the sake of your life. But don't overdo it to the point you contradict your original personality. You must find the balance yourself.]

As the message appeared, the window began to fade.

Wang Heng read it three times before it became too faint to distinguish. He blinked — and the window disappeared entirely.

He moved the mouse and keyboard. The computer responded perfectly normally, as if the supernatural chat box had never existed. But Wang Heng knew it wasn't a hallucination — just like the extra seven years of memories in his mind.

"So besides following my instincts, I also have to match my pre-rebirth personality… What was I even thinking at eighteen?"

He thought for a moment — and immediately remembered.

According to the original timeline, at this point he had just started dating Han Yixuan and was overwhelmed with excitement.

"…Such a classic rookie mentality."

Han Yixuan had already forgotten how she walked home.

When she came back to her senses, she was inside the house, changing into slippers. Her parents were on the sofa — one watching TV, the other reading a magazine.

Her mother lowered the volume and turned to her.

"Didn't you say you were just going out for dinner? Why so late?"

Han Yixuan stood at the doorway, biting her lower lip, unable to answer.

Her mother noticed something wrong and asked again,

"Did something happen?"

"No… nothing…"

Avoiding their eyes, Han Yixuan hurried into her bedroom.

After closing the door, she habitually sat at her desk — then froze when she saw the notebook lying there.

She didn't need to open it. She knew exactly what was inside.

Every page contained careful entries she'd written over the past few days — records of those dreams.

She vaguely remembered reading somewhere that dreams fade quickly after waking, so if you don't want to forget them, you must write them down immediately. But she felt her case was different.

Those beautiful moments from the past few days remained crystal clear. Even now, if she closed her eyes, they appeared instantly — including that boy's warm smile…

Reality, however, wasn't warm at all.

Suddenly, the girl stood up, tore out every page describing the dreams, ripped them into pieces, and threw them hard into the trash can.

Then she picked up her phone and called her best friend.

"Xiaoxia, are you free tomorrow?"

On the other end was Song Xiaoxia — one of the two girls who had blocked Wang Heng outside the restaurant earlier. Among all her classmates, she was Han Yixuan's closest friend.

Song Xiaoxia asked,

"No plans. Why? Don't tell me you got that guy and want to call me out to show off your romance?"

Han Yixuan spoke softly.

"No… he still refused."

Song Xiaoxia fell silent for a moment, then angrily said,

"That idiot must be blind — his brain malfunctioned if he rejected our Xiaoxuan!"

Han Yixuan smiled.

"Alright, you don't have to comfort me. I'm fine. I just wanted to ask if you're free tomorrow. If you are, come shopping with me?"

"Shopping? Of course!" she agreed immediately, then added worriedly, "Are you feeling really bad? Listen, it's fine. Not dating now is good — once we get into university, there'll be plenty of handsome, considerate seniors. You'll see—"

Han Yixuan laughed and cut her off.

"I know, I know. There are so many boys in the world — why would I obsess over one? Don't worry."

"Mm… then tomorrow… what time?"

"Eleven. We'll grab lunch together."

"Deal."

"Deal."

After setting their plan, she hung up with a smile.

The room fell quiet. Only faint TV sounds drifted in through the door from the living room.

Han Yixuan's smile quickly disappeared.

She collapsed onto the desk, buried her face in her arms, and cried silently.
