Chapter 26 - Wasted

Dylan was having a normal day in outer settlement.

Since the day Lady Changing Star has come, thing stared to change.

Now, they didn't have to risk dying just for some food.

In return they gave her their support and their loyalty.

They build new camps, did chores and tried to keep the place as good as they could.

Everyone wanted to contribute.

If they were given food, they will do anything for their saviour.

But Dylan was not build for this.

He was a Pathfinder.

Someone who was only good at that job.

His aspect didn't help him with much.

But he was good at finding his way through complicated mazes.

That's how he survived when he was thrown on some coral labyrinth.

Sure, he could help around with chores but he wanted to be more useful. Just like he did in the past.

But people now days barely formed partys to hunt.

Everything was done alone by Lady changing star and her team members.

"Hey, you are Dylan, right? I heard you know your way through catacombs.... I need you to guide us there. Off course, you'll be paid handsomely." A white haired man, who doesn't look like he belonged to this place with his clothes, asked him.

"Catacombs? I'm not setting foot in there ever again, that place is a graveyard for whoever goes in their. Go look for someone else." Dylan told the guy who looked like some Lagecy.

He wasn't afraid of refusing this man, any punishment would be better then dying in there. He would never set foot on that cursed place ever again.

"How does hundred soul shards sound?"

"When do we depart?"

...

...

Three men moved thought the underground tunnels.

One man with brown hair had worried look on his face.

"Hay, why that face, didn't you see how capable we are? Nothing's going to happen to you." The white haired man said.

"And these Undeads are way to fragile for us to even lift a sword. So don't worry to much."

"Ok"

...

They moved through the catacombs like it was a breeze.

"Why are they just falling like puppets whose strings are cut?" The brown haired man asked.

"The Undeads are just bones which are held together by only a small amount of energy that help them move. They aren't anything I can't handle. So let's pick up the pace."

....

Not long after they found a bridge and after crossing that they were in front of a large chamber.

"Ok, it's your turn now, Sunny, you need to find that glowing key in that pile of bones. Even I can't do that with my spirit form. It all looks same to me." The white hair guy said to his companion.

"I already see it, don't worry. Let me go get it. Cover me as usual." The black haired guy moved swiftly and trusted his hand inside the bone pile.

He grabbed something and left the chamber before the bone pile started to even move.

"Ok, let's go, we got what we came here for."

They exited the underground caves.

After settling the payments the brown haired man parted way.

He went towards the castle.

...

"So what's so special about that memory? Is it related to something divine?" Sunny asked Raine.

"Something like that, that's a divine rank memory. A mask worn by a deamon." Raine told him.

"Divine? Did you say divine rank? Like ...real divine rank memory? .....It must be super powerful. I can't wait to see it."

"Sure, let's open the seal. That place is locked with some strange spell. I couldn't move beyond even as a spirit."

They moved and unlocked the hidden chamber.

The place was Eerie and was illuminated by ghostly torches.

"This place is super creepy." Sunny said.

"Wait until you see what's locked inside."

And he was true.

Inside a person was kneeling inside a circle wearing black clothes. He was bound by chains which kept his hands in air.

But most creepy of all was the Demonic mask the person was wearing.

Sunny felt a strange connection with the mysterious mask.

But....

"I'm taking this one."

Raine moved forward and placed his hand on the mask.

The next moment everything crumbled.

....

....

"You are still grumpy about that, it's just a divine rank memory, ...it can't be more precious then our friendship..."

"Then give it it me, you bastard,...if it isn't precious, then why did you took it before I even had a proper look, hah....? "

"And it would have been ok...it would have been ok,...if only.....if only you didn't tell me that I was gonna find it in future, why did you tell me? You wanted me to suffer didn't you!... I felt so betrayed....." Sunny shouted.

"I know. I know. My mistake. But I was the one who got it first this time, you see." Raine said mocking him more.

Sunny looked like he was about to cry.

Raine sighed.

"I would have given it to you,you know?"

Sunny looked at him.

"But you can't use this memories potential at all."

"It's just wasted on you, you see." Raine said.

Sunny looked at him, a bit puzzled.

"Ok, Let me explain."

...

"So this mask have a history of it's own."

"The person you saw in the basement was one of the Weaver's follower."

"They were hunted down by all sides so that's why they chose to wear these type of masks."

"There are three type of these masks. You can say that their are three tiers of masks."

"They had three enchantment. One increasing with each tier."

"First one just hide your identity from everything. No divination, no recognition, no nothing, if someone wears it there identity can't be traced. Those mask were given to all followers."

"That's a bit useful but not entirely, you see, you don't even have any enemies who is on that level that you need to wear this thing." He said as he held the Mask in his hand.

...

"The second one is a bad one, ....it let's you glimpse at fate itself.... But it isn't useful..... if anyone use it, their brain will be overloaded from all that information. And boom...their heads will explode."

"Sure you can you it when you are higher rank like maybe a sovereign or even higher rank but I'm sure with how fate works around you, you'll find tier two masks that have the same enchantments by that time."

"But the last one....."

"That's the reason why this memory is actually... divine."

"It's on only this this mask, one of a kind."

" And you know what it dose? ....It do only one thing."

"A simple trick." Raine snapned his fingers.

"That's it. A simple trick to ...reverse your flaw."

Sunny's eyes widen.

"Now you see why it's wasted on you? If you wear it, your flaw will be reversed and you'll be only able to lie."

"That's just a waste of this divine enchantment, don't you think?"

Sunny rememberd his time when he was asked...'You cheated, didn't you?'

"I still find it ...somewhat useful... for me..." He said in embarrassment.

"You can't be serious? That's a divine enchantment we are talking about, and what you wanna do with it? Lie on people's face?" Raine couldn't believe this man.

"Ok, think of it this way.... If used by a suitable person this memory can shine in it's divine glory like it was meant to be..."

"And did you forget what my flaw is...."

Sunny spoke with a bit of shock ..."It ...it makes you weak when you use your ability..that means...."

"That means from now on, it will make me stronger...."
