Chapter 10 - Bloodline

Although Adam loathed the blood slave to the extreme, he still intended to use him.

Adam never considered himself a good person. Burying other people's bodies, then taking over their identities, enjoying the care of their relatives, and lowering the bottom line of a good person—all just to gain an opportunity for himself.

The difference between him and that human-shaped trash was that he clearly knew that what he was doing was dirty and ugly, and he wouldn't do those dirty things for matters unrelated to profit.

If he hadn't reincarnated as an Otherkind, perhaps he would truly be an ascetic monk right now, enjoying the worship of the common people somewhere and fighting against evil Otherkind.

Unfortunately, reality was thus, and Adam had no ability to change any of it.

Adam hid the book he got from the blood slave under the bed and didn't rush to read it, instead immediately resting.

Even though he was a werewolf, he still needed rest, especially since he had used his full strength to perceive earlier, and his spirit was a bit weak now.

The next day, Alva finally began to work. He had Adam scrape off the surface layer of a wall. After cleaning the wall, he had him mix materials according to specific ratios. Based on the different pigments used, these were divided into several types, which were then applied evenly in layers onto the wall.

Painting type and craftsmanship type are two categories of fresco painting. Alva employed the craftsmanship type, which falls into a number of different categories. In technical terms, this was a mix of painting and carving.

Once the materials were applied and began to gradually solidify, Alva began to work, using different carving knives to peel off the excess material.

Before long, a painting rich in layers appeared before Adam, with various colours differing due to the different material layers.

When the carving was almost complete, Alva took out various coloured stones, shells, and gems from a material box nearby and inlaid them in various places. Only then did he take out a fine carving knife to meticulously refine the details bit by bit.

Adam followed behind, constantly helping to replace tools and clean up the scraped-off waste materials, occasionally also needing to mix pigments for touch-ups.

By evening, a section of the fresco was nearly complete before Adam.

It was vibrant in colour, clearly layered, and rich in texture. The figures on it were exceptionally lifelike; even their skin seemed real.

Alva was definitely a master in this field. Adam wasn't entirely just an errand boy here; at least, he learnt a lot about the material ratios, should he decide to become a painter.

"Let's clean up." After speaking, Alva waved his hand and, without bothering with the tools on the ground, ambled out.

Adam looked down at one layer of the toolbox, where there were still many unused gems.

He smiled and shook his head, took out a wooden piece, scraped the leftover materials layer by layer onto the wooden piece, then packed up the tools and returned with the wooden piece.

Adam understood that details determine success or failure. Since he had decided to use being a painter as a cover, he needed to do what a painter's apprentice should do. Although gems were good, he didn't think he could truly pocket them, nor could they bring him real benefits.

Given this, those gems were no more important to Adam than stones by the roadside.

Walking on the road, Adam lowered his head and fiddled with the wooden piece in his hand, using branches or stones since he had no carving knife.

He found this was a good way to train his perception: the texture and layers of the materials, the changes in colour, and the speed at which the materials solidified, among other things.

Adam felt that Alva's perception ability must be very strong.

Before returning to the Cooper family, Adam saw a stray cat by the roadside. He squatted down and beckoned to it.

Seemingly sensing the affinity Adam exuded, the stray cat hesitated for a moment before coming towards Adam.

Adam placed the remaining half of a pickled vegetable pancake in his palm to feed the stray cat, then rubbed the little one's head, revealing a pleasant smile.

Seeing that the sun was about to set, Adam stood up and returned to the Cooper family, greeting Arlis and Maggie, playing with little Lina, and then returning to the attic, his mind filled with various calculations.

The church, nobles, garrison, Otherkind... All the information he had collected daily flowed through Adam's mind. He thought about how to handle various situations, reiterating to himself internally, giving himself suggestions, so that he could react correctly the first time he encountered those things.

Finally, he transformed into a werewolf and, under the light of the waxing crescent moon, began to read the book he had obtained from the blood slave.

This was a messy handwritten book, even mixed with some diary entries.

"Indeed, who writes a diary normally?" Adam sat on the bed, flipping through the handwritten book with one hand.

The book's owner was named Adler Lein, which, as expected, was the name of that disgusting human-shaped trash.

The handwriting was scrawled, with many typos, and the content was somewhat disjointed. There were also diary entries with incorrect grammar, which truly gave one a headache to read.

However, Adam still learnt a lot of information from it.

Although Adler was a native of Roya, as a freeman, he also had so-called ambitions when he was young, planning to go out and make a name for himself, becoming a great adventurer.

Then, during a clumsy adventure, Adler became a vampire's captive and was subsequently transformed into a blood slave, becoming half the vampire's assistant.

This handwritten book contained some fragmented information he recorded during his time as an assistant.

Adler was undoubtedly lucky; the vampire later encountered a powerful priest, and he successfully escaped because of it, not becoming the vampire's next experiment.

After that, Adler returned to Roya but dared not enter the city. He stayed in the forest for several months and finally connected with some Otherkind inside Roya, meeting Witch Doctor Hodd. Only then did he officially return to live in Roya.

However, due to his failed adventure, he was penniless, and coupled with the expensive price of magic potions, he could only move to the slums, which also made it convenient for him to hunt.

This information was good news for Adam, at least that pure vampire was not in Roya.

As for other information, Adam also gained a lot. Werewolves are distinguished by whether they are purebred, while vampires are distinguished by whether they are pure.

The distinction lies in that a purebred werewolf is differentiated by a bloodline inheritance, while a pure vampire is determined by whether the ritual was correct.

From the records, it could be known that the pure Vampire was still conducting bloodline experiments afterward. He continuously created blood slaves and then, through various experiments, tried to transform the blood slaves into pure vampires, rather than impure ones that were called vampires but were actually blood slaves.

"Why did this vampire come to Heavenly Sound Country to conduct experiments?" Adam frowned. Heavenly Sound Country was the Holy Sound Church's home ground. He wanted to escape because he was born here and had no choice, but what about that vampire?

Without an answer, Adam could only put aside this question and continue to extract knowledge from it. What was most helpful to Adam was undoubtedly the Vampire's experiments on the Werewolf bloodline.

"After werewolves reach adulthood, their bloodline fully matures, and they undergo an awakening."

"At that moment, the power of the bloodline will fully blossom, displaying a miraculous power, tracing back to their ancestors, tracing their past, unearthing personal talents, and forming unique awakening abilities."

"Some have even more abnormal regenerative abilities, some have highly infectious wolf venom, and others have some even more wondrous abilities."

"Impure werewolves, being formed by infection, lack that step of tracing back to the ancestors during their bloodline awakening, and the awakened abilities they unearth are often relatively weaker."

"It is worth noting that the closer it is to the night of the full moon, the faster the bloodline matures, and at the moment of awakening, even purebred werewolves find it difficult to suppress the restlessness of their bloodline and become frenzied."

Upon reading this, Adam frowned and looked up at the sky through the skylight. It was currently a waxing crescent moon, and the full moon would be in seven or eight days.

If Adler's records were correct, he would indeed undergo bloodline awakening during that period.

"Uncontrollable frenzy, huh? I need to prepare early for this." Adam frowned.

"Tracing back to the ancestors, tracing back to the past, unearthing personal talents?" Adam looked at his furry paws covered in white fur. He had only met his biological father a few times and didn't know much about his father's family. So, what about tracing the past and unearthing talents?

"My past and my talents…"
