And then—
The crying stopped.
Not faded.
Not moved away.
Stopped.
The silence that followed was worse than the sound itself.
David slowly raised the shotgun, his eyes scanning the tree line. The forest had gone completely still. No wind. No insects. No movement.
"Get them to the truck," he whispered to me.
I helped the woman up. Her leg wasn't broken—but it was badly twisted. The young man refused to drop the axe. His hands were shaking so hard the blade rattled.
As we started moving, I felt it.
That sensation.
Like being watched.
From above.
I made the mistake of looking toward the trees again.
About thirty yards away, between two pines, something shifted.
It didn't step forward.
It unfolded.
That's the only way I can describe it.
Its limbs were too long. Its joints bent in places they shouldn't. Its head tilted at an unnatural angle, as if it were studying us. Even in the dim light, I could see that its skin looked stretched tight over bone.
And then—
It mimicked the young man's voice.
"Thank God you're here."
Perfectly.
Same tone. Same panic.
The young man collapsed to his knees.
David fired the shotgun.
The blast echoed through the trees.
The thing didn't fall.
It didn't bleed.
It just jerked backward—like a puppet pulled by invisible strings—and disappeared behind the trees.
And then the crying started again.
But now it was farther away.
Circling.
David grabbed me by the collar. "Move!"
We practically dragged the couple to the truck.
Suddenly,it hopped onto david which made david throw his gun.
It stepped on david.I could hear his bones crushing due to its intense weight.
"RUN AWAY!"
He shouted at me. But I was just there.frozen.
Without thinking.I grabbed his shotgun and launched a shot straight to his eye.
He screamed in pain and ran away.
But wait.he is still alive?!
I did not care at all.
All I just cared were the victims and the young man.
I carried david to the truck and settled him down the passenger seat and drove as fast as I could before reaching the headquarters.
The others were..kind of shocked.they were about to go but I Just popped it up there with the truck.
