Xavier's eyes dimmed as his body fought desperately against the exhaustion pulling at him with every passing second. As he sped back into the city he had left only hours earlier, his car tore through the streets toward the hospital where Asher had once worked.
His attention was barely on the road. Every few seconds his eyes darted toward Asher, terrified that the man beside him would suddenly stop breathing. His panic reached its peak when Asher's body suddenly began jerking violently across his lap.
"Asher... calm down. We're almost there. I'll get you somewhere safe. You're safe, trust me."
His trembling voice did nothing to calm the violent convulsions. Asher's body shook so fiercely that his head slammed against the steering wheel, forcing the wheel to jerk sharply and almost sending the car into a wrong turn.
"Oh, fuck... this is bad."
