Chapter 32 - Chapter 32: Investigating the Aircraft Wreckage

Nick Fury did not bother to hide much. After all, these matters were not top secret.

Even if he concealed them, they would find out sooner or later.

"So, the Avengers Initiative needs to accelerate. Regarding Dr. Banner, that Iron Man, and Daredevil, I will leave it to you, Natasha, to make contact with them," Nick Fury said.

"No problem, but boss, we should also recruit some mutants and have them join our Avengers. Mutants are not a monolithic bloc, and for these newly mutated mutants, we just need to provide them with some leadership and instill some individual heroism. Young mutant teenagers might become our most effective allies against the mutant threat," Natasha said. Although she had her own agenda, this method was mutually beneficial.

"Hmm, there is some truth to that. I will leave this matter to you," Nick Fury nodded and said.

After discussing for a while, Ren, with outsiders present, remained silent. He hid within Natasha's body, slowly digesting the genes he had copied from Spider-Man.

Several hours later, on a glacier west of Greenland.

An icebreaker stopped at the target location, and then a gangway for personnel and cargo extended from its left side.

A team of agents descended the gangway from the icebreaker, carrying various equipment.

The S.H.I.E.L.D. agents were all dressed in heavy cold-weather gear, and the thick ice beneath their feet was more than enough to support their weight.

"This is it," said the agent in the lead.

Coulson walked ahead excitedly. Nick Fury smiled at Coulson's loss of composure. He knew how much Coulson admired Captain America. He even felt a sense of shared honor.

Arriving at the front, they saw a massive mechanical wreckage embedded in a depression of ice and snow. Many parts were still covered by ice and snow.

Blizzards are frequent in the Arctic Ocean region.

The aircraft wreckage now had more ice and snow covering it than in previous photos, evidently accumulated from the blizzards of the past few days.

Natasha also wore heavy cold-weather gear. Although her body had been enhanced, she still could not withstand the extreme cold of the Arctic region.

Glancing at a portable theodolite, Nick Fury said to Coulson, "That is right. This is it. Coulson, prepare to begin investigating this wreckage."

Nick Fury was also a little excited. After more than seventy years, they could finally meet again.

As a member of the Howling Commandos over seventy years ago, how could Nick Fury not recognize this aircraft?

This was the battlefield where Steve Rogers and Red Skull fought their final battle!

"Understood," Coulson replied. He then directed the other accompanying agents to set up their instruments and prepare for the investigation.

Most S.H.I.E.L.D. agents had grown up hearing stories of Captain America. They felt as if they were about to meet an idol.

Natasha looked at the Hydra aircraft wreckage embedded in the ice and snow.

Due to the extensive snow cover, only a portion of the plane was visible, but the exposed wing still displayed the Hydra skull-octopus claw emblem.

The aircraft wreckage was indeed massive. The ice and snow primarily covered the fuselage, while the damaged wings were mostly still visible.

The wingspan of the fuselage was over a hundred meters long, with countless fractured sections on the wings. Some parts were even missing.

Clearly, the Hydra aircraft suffered a considerable impact during its crash, and its wings sustained significant damage.

Natasha, having also lived through World War II, felt a sense of emotion and nostalgia looking at the Hydra plane.

"My goodness, this aircraft uses a very streamlined design. The wings somehow resemble the style of the U.S. military's current B-Spirit bomber, but the volume is much larger.

There are also jet nozzles on the side-rear of the wings. To be able to manufacture such a futuristic aircraft in that era, Hydra was truly extraordinary.

Now that I think about it, with Hydra possessing such advanced technology, it is truly remarkable that we won World War II," an agent could not help but exclaim upon seeing the Hydra aircraft from World War II.

"Alright, enough chatter. Get on with the rescue operation. After we return, you can browse the World War II data stored within S.H.I.E.L.D.," Nick Fury said indifferently.

These documents were not highly classified. They were just inaccessible to ordinary people.

"Yes, Director!" the agents replied, resuming their work.

"Director Fury, the sonic structural detection equipment is ready. We can begin scanning the wreckage," Coulson reported a moment later, running over.

"Good. Prepare to detect the structure of this wreckage," Nick nodded and said.

Then, an assembled piece of equipment was moved forward over ten meters along a pulley towards the wreckage, and a 90-centimeter diameter disc-shaped sonic emitter on the equipment was aimed at the wreckage.

"Calibration complete," an agent operating the equipment reported after adjusting the detector.

"Begin," Nick Fury said.

"Yes!" The agent quickly operated it.

On the disc-shaped sonic emitter aimed at the wreckage, sound waves at a fixed frequency were transmitted towards the aircraft wreckage.

This sonic structural detector could effectively use sound waves to detect the internal structure of target objects.

After 40 seconds, the detected internal structure of the aircraft wreckage began to display on the monitor behind the equipment.

The bearing below the disc-shaped sonic emitter rotated, detecting more parts of the aircraft.

Soon, the structural diagram of the aircraft wreckage was detected, and they could begin to enter.

"Natasha, Coulson, you two lead a team and enter the aircraft to investigate," Nick Fury instructed.

Natasha nodded and, with Coulson, led a team of agents to the aircraft.

With a burst of electrical sparks, Natasha cut a roughly circular opening, about one meter in diameter, into the aircraft's outer shell.

With a thud, the cut-out aircraft shell fell inside the fuselage, and a reverberating metallic clang echoed from within.

Looking at the cut metal hole, Natasha looked down.

It was dark and eerie inside, with a considerable amount of ice and snow, evidently having surged in through some damaged openings in the lower part of the fuselage.

Several agents quickly secured ropes to the aircraft's outer shell, and Natasha was the first to descend using the ropes.

The cabin was pitch black.

Natasha swept her spotlight around, revealing that the massive cabin was filled with cold and gloom, and almost all items were covered in ice and snow.
