The scandal from yesterday had blown up far beyond campus walls. It spread like wildfire through the city's elite circles, and there was no way Serena Blackwood hadn't heard every delicious detail. Nine times out of ten, Liora Voss had been the one to feed it to her.

Elias Kane let the phone ring for a long, deliberate stretch, waiting until the very last second before the call would roll to voicemail before he finally answered.
Under normal circumstances, a delay like that would have earned him an immediate "Don't push your luck, boy" from Serena. Instead her voice poured through the speaker like warm honey. "What are you doing?"
Right back to the gentle, doting act.
Elias twisted a lock of golden hair around his fingertip, playing with it absently. "Just finished class."
"Do you have time? I…"
He hung up before she could finish the sentence.
