Chapter 29 - Chapter 29 : The Alliance and the Trial

The evening had settled over Stormvale, casting a golden hue across its stone carved halls and towering structures. Within the royal palace, a grand chamber stood prepared, its walls adorned with ancient dwarven engravings and glowing crystal lamps embedded into the stone itself. The atmosphere was calm, yet beneath it lingered a quiet anticipation.

At the center of the chamber, seated with composed patience, was the diplomatic minister of Rivergate. His posture was straight, his expression calm, and his eyes observant. Behind him stood a few selected knights, silent and disciplined, representing the dignity of their kingdom. Moments later, the heavy doors of the chamber opened.

The Stormvale King entered….

Behind him followed a line of influential figures, the Intelligence Bureau General, the Stormvale diplomatic minister, several high ranking ministers, nobles of the kingdom, the head of the Merchant Guild, and even the head of the Adventurer's Guild. Each carried an air of authority, their presence alone enough to signify the importance of this meeting.

The Rivergate minister stood immediately and bowed respectfully,

"Your Majesty….."

The king acknowledged him with a slight nod before taking his seat at the head of the chamber,

"Let us begin," the king said calmly

The room fell into complete silence.

After a brief pause, the Stormvale King spoke again, his voice steady and firm.

"We have carefully considered the proposal presented by the Kingdom of Rivergate."

Every eye in the room shifted toward him,

"And after thorough deliberation," he continued, "we find your request… acceptable."

A faint shift in the atmosphere followed.

"It is our belief," the king went on, "that in the coming future, greater challenges may arise, challenges that no single kingdom should face alone. Therefore, forging an alliance between Stormvale and Rivergate would be… beneficial for both sides."

The Rivergate minister's expression softened into a genuine smile,

"This is an honor beyond words, Your Majesty," he replied respectfully.

"To hear such a decision directly from you brings great pride to our kingdom. I assure you, Rivergate will not disappoint. We will stand beside Stormvale with unwavering support."

The conversation that followed was steady, respectful, and filled with mutual understanding. Terms were discussed, intentions clarified, and a foundation of trust was carefully laid between the two powers.

Yet beneath it all…

There was something unspoken.

The Stormvale King had already seen the strength of the heroes.

And that knowledge had already shaped his decision. But the Rivergate delegation knew nothing of it.

To them, this alliance was diplomacy.

To Stormvale… it was survival….

After a moment of silence, the king leaned slightly forward.

"There is… one matter," he said

The Rivergate minister looked attentive.

"A situation has recently arisen within our territory," the king continued. "A newly formed dungeon has been discovered near a remote village on the outskirts of Stormvale."

The room grew slightly tense.

"This dungeon," the king said, "is rich in Mithril…."

At the mention of the rare metal, even the nobles exchanged subtle glances.

"Mithril of such purity is… extremely valuable," the king added.

"It has the potential to forge weapons of exceptional quality, perhaps even reaching S-rank or beyond."

The Rivergate minister's eyes gleamed faintly. However, the king's expression remained serious,

"Unfortunately, the dungeon is not without its dangers."

A pause…..

"It is guarded…."

The room fell silent again

"Within the depths resides a creature… a Mithril Guardian," the king said slowly, "A beast born from the very essence of the dungeon itself. Its body is reinforced with natural Mithril, granting it immense durability and resistance. Its strength is estimated to be at the level of a Double S-rank."

A low murmur spread across the chamber.

The king continued…

"It does not act mindlessly. It defends the core of the dungeon with precision. Any attempt to harvest resources has been met with immediate and overwhelming retaliation."

The Rivergate minister listened carefully. Without hesitation, he smiled.

"This sounds like an excellent opportunity," he said confidently, "If Stormvale allows it, our heroes would be honored to assist. Not only would this strengthen our alliance, but it would also demonstrate the capabilities of Rivergate."

The king observed him for a moment.

Then nodded, "Very well…."

Later that evening, inside a well lit room within the inn, the three heroes sat together as the Rivergate minister explained the situation.

"A Mithril dungeon?" Darian said, his eyes lighting up. "And a Double S-rank monster guarding it?"

He grinned widely…

"Now that sounds interesting "

Torin crossed his arms, a slight smirk forming ,"Finally something worth our time."

Selva remained quiet, listening carefully.

"The kingdom of Stormvale has entrusted us with this task," the minister said calmly, "This is not just a mission, it is a symbol of trust between our nations."

Selva nodded slightly, "Understood…."

Darian stood up immediately, "Then what are we waiting for?"

"Tomorrow is the day…", the minister said.

The next morning arrived swiftly.

A reinforced carriage stood waiting outside the inn, guarded by a group of dwarven knights clad in heavy armor, their presence firm and disciplined.

The three heroes stepped out, prepared. Without delay, they entered the carriage. The journey began….

As they traveled through Stormvale, the landscape gradually changed. The grand structures of the central city gave way to smaller settlements. Villages appeared along the path each built with sturdy stone and simple design, yet filled with life.

Even in the outskirts, Stormvale maintained its strength.

"This place…" Torin said, glancing outside, "…they don't waste anything "

Darian nodded, "Everything looks built to last."

Selva watched quietly….

After several hours, the carriage slowed. They had arrived….

A remote village stood before them, smaller than the ones they had passed, yet clearly important. Guards were stationed around the area, and in the distance… A massive dungeon gate stood carved into the mountainside.

Waiting…..

A dwarven general approached them, his armor marked with insignias of command.

"You are the heroes from Rivergate," he said, his tone respectful but firm. "I am General Brakka. I have been assigned to oversee this operation."

He gestured toward the dungeon,

"That… is your target "

He explained the situation briefly, the failed attempts, the strength of the guardian, and the importance of the Mithril within.

"This mission is simple in objective," he concluded, "Defeat the guardian, Secure the dungeon…."

Darian cracked his knuckles…

"Simple enough "

Torin nodded

Selva stepped forward,

"…Let's go…."

Without hesitation, the three heroes moved toward the dungeon entrance.

The gates opened slowly. Darkness awaited them.

Deep within the dungeon…

Far below the surface…

Something stirred….

A massive form shifted within the shadows. Its body, partially fused with gleaming Mithril, reflected faint light in the darkness.

Its eyes opened….

And for the first time…

It sensed them…

A low, rumbling sound echoed through the cavern,

Not a roar….Not yet…A smile….Cold….Patient….Waiting….!!
