Chapter 13 - Recognition

Liara had been following the lead for about an hour and a half, and they had entered the forest east of the city an hour ago.

"I won't last long, my spark is burning out quickly."

She can use her spark for a maximum of 5 minutes now.

"How did they cover that distance so quickly?"

Then Quill approached her on his horse.

"Commander, I'm sorry to say this, but we've been searching for an hour and a half and we have to get back to our positions, you know that."

Liara looked at him with a frightening, angry gaze.

Then she breathed slowly and replied sadly,

"We will search until my spark dies out. If we don't find them, we will return."

Then, looking ahead again, her eyes widened.

"Is my spark truly extinguished?"

she quickly checkedif her spark end

"No, it's not finished, so why?"

And now, right before her eyes, the line that had been guiding them in the air had ended, and their surroundings were empty.

She got off the horse and went to where the line ended.

She was astonished.

"This doesn't make sense. The ability is supposed to guide me to Ryan location, but there's nothing here but air."

Quill approached her again and asked,

"Have you found anything, Commander?"

"No."

She was furious, gritting her teeth and clenching her fists so hard she scratched herself with her nails.

She was consuming her remaining spark of lightning without even noticing; lightning was striking all around, breaking trees and burning the surrounding vegetation.

Quill said anxiously.

"Commander, you need to calm down,"

She screamed angrily

"Calm down?"

"How can I calm down when I don't even know if my brother is alive or dead?"

And at that moment he see the lightning strike the air

She noticed that, then started moving forward, and then her body hit the air.

She raised her hand and began to touch the object she had bumped into, but it was hidden.

"this"

She looked at Coyle.

"Bring Rena here."

He replied,

"Right away."

Rena came running, carrying out the orders, and when she was about to salute, Liara interrupted her.

"There is something hidden using the shadow element, make it visible."

Rena answered without hesitation

"Yes, Commander."

Rena touched the hidden object and after a few moments they began to see it.

It was a house made of earth element there were no windows only a door and it was open.

Upon seeing this, Liara gave her orders to everyone:

"Surround this house"

Following her orders, the soldiers surrounded the house, then she said,

"Quill, Rena, and Jeffrey, you're coming in with me."

As they passed through the door and entered, the place became dark, so everyone used their abilities to see in the dark.

They began searching the area, and after a few minutes, Quill said,

"Commander, can you come here?"

When Liara reached him, she saw him standing on the edge of a pit.

He looked at her and said,

"I think there's something down there, but I don't know what."

She looked at him and said,

"We're going downstairs."

Quill formed a staircase of fire leading downwards, and the two descended.

When they reached the object below, they noticed it was a charred corpse.

Quill said,

"This is barbaric."

Liara stepped forward to examine the body, and when she touched it, a light began to emanate from it.

Liara quickly pulled her hand away horrified. She began to tremble tears welling in her eyes.

"Impossible..."

When she saw her in that form, Quill recalled that the leader had placed her Mark of Light ability on her family members, and that this ability would be activated if she touched a family member and was unable to recognize them.

'I hope she don't get devastated by this.'

Liara began to approach the body again, tears streaming down her face.

"No, this isn't true. Please don't work again."

But when she touched the burning body again, a light ignited once more, then she collapsed to the ground and began to cry as she hugged her brother's burning body.

And when I hugged him, I heard a faint sound.

It was a very faint breathing sound.
