Chapter 263
The Eye of the Heavens
At Hunter Christopher's mansion, beneath the cover of the dark night, flames had mercilessly engulfed the place. The fire crawled along the walls, devoured the pillars, and turned everything it touched into a living hell, as though the mansion itself were screaming in pain as it collapsed.
{{I will destroy everything.}}
{Run, Queen of Insects.}
{{I will kill everyone.}}
{Frost Monarch… save me.}
{{How dare you, monsters?!}}
An absolute voice thundered through the area, a scream that surpassed the limits of hearing and shook both heaven and earth.
Even the flow of the earth itself seemed to stop for a few seconds beneath the weight of that voice, as though the world had been forcibly compelled into silence.
The dark sky flashed and trembled, and then…
it appeared.
An eye.
A colossal eye, opened in the heart of the black sky, staring down at the burning destruction below with divine coldness.
...
Let us go back a little.
Or, to be more precise…
let us go back only half an hour.
—
"Hunter Christopherrrr…"
A calm voice, almost sleepy, rose outside the mansion's gate as Arthur deliberately pounded on it.
"Who… no… Do you know who I am, you bastard?"
The door was violently thrown open, revealing Hunter Christopher, anger blazing in his eyes.
His body began to ignite gradually, layers of steel forming over his skin, as though a demon preparing to transform.
Before the door, Arthur stood with an obvious look of boredom, while Lady Selner stood calmly behind him as usual.
"Didn't I mention your name a moment ago? Of course I know who you are," Arthur said with a sigh. "For heaven's sake… why are you all so stupid?"
Christopher glared at him furiously, the flames around his body growing stronger.
"And you think—"
Arthur gave a cold smile…
then disappeared.
In the next moment, he appeared behind Christopher.
"I'll give you some time to transform," he said in a low, calm voice.
One strike.
Arthur struck Christopher's neck with absolute precision.
The National-Level Hunter collapsed to the ground unconscious before his transformation could be completed.
A heavy silence descended.
"He knocked out a National-Level Hunter with a single strike…" Selner muttered in astonishment. "Just how powerful are you, really?"
"Didn't you come to me because of this strength, Lady Selner?" Arthur replied with a calm smile.
They entered the mansion.
Inside, the servants were lined up in confusion, fear clearly visible on their faces.
"Alright, youngsters," Arthur said in an ordinary tone. "You're all off today. Go back to your homes."
No one moved.
Arthur sighed slightly, then turned around.
"Lady Selner, handle it."
"Leave it to me, Mr. Arthur," she replied confidently.
Arthur withdrew into one of the rooms, sat beside the window, and stared at the dark sky while trying to light a cigarette.
"You know these things will kill you, Sung Jinwoo… or should I say, Arthur now?"
Arthur turned around.
An elegantly dressed girl in beautiful clothes was standing behind him.
He recognized her immediately.
"Mor Mai…"
"How are you?" she asked with a calm smile.
"Fine. What are you doing here?"
"I'm Christopher's wife," she said simply.
"Wife…? Really?"
"Yes." She smiled and touched her slightly swollen stomach.
"You're pregnant," Arthur said calmly.
"Yes."
"Congratulations." He smiled sincerely.
Mor Mai sat beside him, and when he tried to light the cigarette, she took it from his mouth and threw it aside.
"Why—"
"Smoking is bad for you… and for the child inside me," she interrupted him gently but firmly.
"Bad for me?" He smiled sarcastically. "You know my profession, don't you?"
"You're a Hunter, yes. But that doesn't give you the right to slowly kill yourself," she said firmly.
"You're still as stubborn as ever," he said as he lit another cigarette.
"And you… you're still the same as before." She smiled happily.
In her eyes, Arthur was not the Holy Ruler.
He was Sung Jinwoo.
They spoke for many long minutes, sharing memories, silence, and words left unspoken.
"Mr. Arthur, everyone has left, including Hunter Christopher," Selner said.
"Good," Arthur replied.
"Chris, what's happening?" Mor Mai asked.
"Ah… I forgot." Arthur said. "Lady Selner, take Mor Mai and get out of here."
Mor Mai tried to object, but Selner gently pulled her away.
A deadly silence descended.
"Let's see when they'll arrive…" Arthur muttered. "In Selner's dream, there were three… three Monarchs."
|Arthur… do you feel this?|
"Yes," he said slowly. "This isn't fear… it's pain. As if I ignored something important."
Suddenly…
everything went dark.
Even the air seemed to stop.
"Looks like we're here, boy," a mocking voice said.
{Ooooh, he's expecting us, Frost Monarch.}
{It seems so, Beast Monarch.}
{Didn't you say he possessed the power of the Shadow Monarch? Who is this child?}
Arthur turned around.
Three Monarchs.
One of them was chewing something…
greedily.
"Beast Monarch," the Frost Monarch said coldly. "We are in a battle. Can you keep your pet away? He is one step away from death."
{Fine… fine.}
Arthur looked at the Beast Monarch's mouth.
The blood in his veins froze.
An infant…
inside his mouth.
And in his other hand was a girl with her stomach split open, taking her final breaths.
"Mor Mai…"
He looked at her, barely alive.
{Ooooh… his friend?}
{How touching.}
"Leave her," Arthur said in a low voice.
{What did you say?}
The Beast Monarch swallowed the infant without hesitation, then arrogantly leaned forward.
{{I said… leave her now.}}
The voice exploded.
The three Monarchs trembled.
|Arthur!|
{{No… you have no right, Cain.}}
He raised his head.
{{How dare you, monsters?!}}
The scream thundered.
The sky shook.
The world stopped.
The mansion was completely engulfed in flames.
{{I will shatter the heavens and—}}
Then he stopped…
He suddenly stopped, and time itself seemed to halt around him to such an extent that the three Monarchs' bodies trembled at what was happening.
A strange sound.
Like the sound of a small drum…
beating gently.
And for the first time…
Arthur stopped.
