Chapter 31 - Chapter 31:The king's dying gift

Orahime Palace:

Manu, after the party was all over, peeked through her door hole after noticing no one was there. She tiptoed into the king's chambers quietly. She used the spare key she had, opened the door quietly, and entered the room.

She saw Ali sleeping peacefully on the bed and walked towards him.

She removed the syringe she was given earlier and injected him slowly. As she was about to exit, he opened his eyes and grabbed her by the arm.

Ali: "I had a feeling I'll get to see you here."

Manu whispered, "Too bad the deed has already been done."

Ali: "Is this your way of getting back at me?"

Manu: "This isn't about revenge or anything. I don't hold you in my mind… I'm just doing what I was asked to."

Ali smiled as he reached for the bedside table and handed her a book.

"I wanted to give you this when the time was right. It belonged to your mom. Even Zanu isn't aware about it."

She grabbed the book and ran out of the chambers before the guards walked in.

He coughed out blood.

"Mauja… you finally did it."

He laughed weakly.

"I'm glad to see you alive and well… wanted to see what our son looked like before I died…"

He entered a convulsive state as the guards walked in. The palace turned into panic.

He died.

Manu entered inside her room, panting heavily. She quickly lay on the bed and covered herself. She hid the book under her pillow.

Zanu suddenly barged into her room.

Manu quickly put on an act. "Za… Zanu?" She saw her eyes red. "What happened?"

Zanu stood there crying, her eyes red, yet wearing an expression that was hard to read.

"Father is dead!"

Manu looked shocked. "What? Father is dead? No… no, this isn't possible!"

She rushed out of her room, leaving Zanu standing still.

She headed into his chambers and saw the doctor there.

"Move! No, this isn't right! How did this happen? Who was on guard duty?"

She slumped on the floor crying.

"How is this possible… how?"
